Port Incision Not Closing Up
I had problems with my incision leaking fluid and the incision was red around the edges. I called the doctor's office and they agreed that I should come in just in case. There was no infection, but he did re-open the wound to let it drain, and then closed it back up. Since then it has been much better. I would call the doctor's office and ask to come in and have it looked at. You don't want to get an infection and have your port become infected. If you were banded on the 6th, I don't think the incision should still be open. Also, there are some viruses you can catch, such as MRS, that will prevent a wound from healing. This virus can easily be caught in a hospital as it's airborne. My friend got it when she had a c-section, and my mom got it from a surgery as well. I'm of the better safe than sorry mentality, so I would go back in and have it checked.

Just banded on 10/18/06
Congrats Suzanne! I would say yes, your progress seems very normal. I was very hungry the first week out, but could only eat small, small amounts. Throughout the whole liquid phase I never really felt full for longer than an hour. It was definitely tough, but something that has to be done. I was a little dizzy and weak my first week too. It's all part of the process I'd say. You sound like you're doing well though, which is great. Welcome to bandland!

Bostongurl I'd say you've been doing FANTASTIC! :clap2: 69 lbs in 6 months! I can only dream of having such sucess. If you don't mind sharing, how has your journey been so far? How many fills have you had? Welcome justpaul, and congratulations on the band! Wow - I can't believe you went to work the next day. I was out of commission for a week!

Hey everyone! Dez - I'm doing great thanks for asking. I have moved to mushies so I am in heaven. Hopefully my weight loss won't stop, but I've heard that it does stall a bit on mushies. I am going to keep tracking on fit day so hopefully if I keep staying under 1200 calories I should be ok. I also think it's time to start the exercise now that my incision is doing better! How are things going for you Dez? How are things now that you've had your first fill?

Working stiffs, how long...
Winner I went back to work after two weeks and am glad I took that much time off, but I remember thinking on the 10th day out that I could definitely have gone to work that day. Good luck!

Oh Sherry, you look freakin amazing! When I see you in person I see the difference, but when I look at those pics, man, I SEE the difference. I am welled up with tears because I am so happy for you, and because I know how much this means to you. Keep up the GREAT work!! Nana - sounds like your psych visit went pretty well all things considered. She is a piece of work alright. She was late for me as well, but the kicker is that while we were in the middle of our meeting her phone rings, she answers it, and is having a conversation about another patient while I'm in the room!! First of all I'm paying you a $100 out of my pocket for this visit, and secondly HIPPA. Helllooo!!! Then I realized she wasn't even listening to me when I was talking, and then she was telling me how 40% of the people never come back, and they fail with the band, etc, etc. It was awful! About 1/2 way through I just decided to keep my mouth shut and sit there because she was crazy. lol. I think she just really liked to hear herself talk. Well I get to progress to mushies this weekend. YEAH!!!!!!!! I had scrambled eggs for breafast. Yummy!! Hope everyone is doing well!

Eileen sorry to hear you're still having a rough time! I've had bouts with back pain and it is just horrible! Ugh! Darcy, Cindy, Mandy, Kat - thanks for the comments on the breath. I think the census is ketosis, which is good, but also stinks (literally)! lol. I'm hoping once I start mushies it will help a bit. Until the bad breath is gone, I'm taking myself of the dating scene! Can't be kissing with ketosis breath!! Oh my!

aaamom - good luck on the tummy tuck! You'll do great! Just keep looking at Telly's pictures and think of the nice flat tummy you will have!! Let us know when you're home! Vicki - how are you doing with your unfill? Feeling any better?

Halitosis - anyone else?
LMAO Kat! You are too funny! I just may have to be quarantined for a while! I will do some internet research and see what I can find out. Thanks again!

Halitosis - anyone else?
Well I'm glad to know I'm not the only one! My breath was worse the first week out, and I thought it was better until I heard otherwise. haha. I'm wondering if switching to mushies will help at all. Hi Kat - the port incision is doing much better thanks! Still a little drainage, but it's not red and puffy anymore. Doc said it looked great.
-
Halitosis - anyone else?
I am just under 3 weeks out from surgery and have not been able to get rid of my horrible bad breath! I have a sour taste in my mouth all the time and my friends (god love them) told me today that my breath has been horrible the past couple of days. I have excellent oral hygene (I brush & floss) and have never had this problem before. I know ketosis can cause bad breath, but where I am on the liquid diet I am getting carbohydrates in my skim milk, tomato Soup, etc, so I'm not sure if the ketosis is it. I was curious if anyone else has had this issue and what I can do to help it go away! Thank you!!

Port incision infection
Good to hear texasbrat. Did you clean w/hydrogen peroxide or anything? Right now I am just keeping it covered and the surgeon put on new steri strips when he opened it, and I've kept them on there.

Congrats on the new floors Cindy! You'll have to post pics once they're finished! Hope everyone else is doing well. I'm doing great with one exception - halitosis!! I'm horrified! I have a constant sour taste in my mouth and my good friends told me my breath has been really bad. Gotta love true friends! lol. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm in my third week. Thanks!

Hi Dreaminbig! Glad to hear the surgery went well!! Just two weeks until your band date - that is great! A little hint - they don't weigh you the day of surgery so don't kill yourself. Don't binge, but you don't have to starve yourself. Trust me - there will be plenty of that on your liquid stage! lol Hi Flower. Great to hear from you! Sounds like you have been a HUGE banding success! Any tips or advice you'd like to share would be great. Dez, there were only three of us in the chat but we'll work at setting up something a little more formal in the future, and with a little more notice this time. Hope everyone else is doing well!

Hi everyone, just popping in before bed. Kat - glad to hear DH is doing well! I'm sure things are still stressful on the homefront for you. Don't forget to take care of yourself during this whole process! Good luck tomorrow at the doctors. I hope it all goes well. Mandy - so sorry to hear about your kitty. I am an animal lover in a big way, and they are such a part of your family. It is horrible to lose a pet, but know in your heart that you gave your kitty a GREAT life.

Congrats Irene! You'll get under 300 in no time! Thanks to everyone for their support with the port incision infection. I saw the doc this afternoon and he said it looks great, and he is not worried at all. I still have to keep it dry and covered, but he thinks I am in the clear. Phew!

Port incision infection
Good news! I saw the doctor today and he said everything looks great. As scary as it was, him opening it up and letting it drain really did do the trick. Thank you all for the well wishes and support!

Good luck dreminbig & seuol! You will both do great with your respective surgeries!! Post when you're home and feeling better! Hi Marie! Welcome to the post. I had Tufts, so I can't give you any feedback on Aetna. A lot of people consider both surgeries. For me, I was too afraid to be permanently re-wired which is why I chose the band. I'm only two weeks out, but there are a ton of people who do fantastic. It does take work, but I'd rather do some of the work than have the other surgery.
