  1. I agree with Robyn. The program is the most comprehensive I have found anywhere. And that is what I was looking for. A program that would give me the proper tools and support to be successful at something I have failed at so frequently. My surgery is scheduled for Wednesday and I feel ready in all areas of my life. I would like to encourage you to stick with Dr. H. (either one of them) cause so far its been great. And look at the weight loss on this thread!!! WOW! Something is going right. Katt
  2. Help!! What is this and where do you find it please? Katt
  3. NOLAGIRL posted recipe for dip on page 5 of this thread. I'm going to try it. Hope u do too and let us know if u like it. Katt
  4. You guys are great. You have answered all of my questions with patience and humor. You have offered me hope and inspiration thru the grueling process of just getting a consult. You keep my spirits up and my head in the game. Thanks to all of you and I'm soooo excited. Katt
  5. I have a date. Finally. Wednesday Sept. 13 at 11:30. YAAAAAYYYYY!!! Katt
  6. I have my surgical consult on the 29th. The results of this poll are VERY reassuring. And right now I need all the confidence boosts I can get. Thanks everyone. Katt
  7. Well, at last I have an appointment with my surgeon. This will have to be my last post on this thread though cause I'm seeing Dr. Hitchcock not Hoehn. You guys have all been an inspiration to me. I get excited at your losses and sad when you are down. See you at group. Katt
  8. Congratulations Robyn! What an accomplishment. I am so happy for you. What a wonderful job you have done. Katt
  9. OK - Just testing ticker. Katt
  10. Had my first meeting with Dr. Sababathy this morning. 7:15AM. If he wanted to see me at my craziest 7:15 on Friday morning was sure the right time. I really liked him. He cleared me. Yippee!!!!! Nutritionist next week and we're off!!!!! Can't wait. Getting excited now. Have to get a ticker. Katt
  11. I am so sorry. My family and I will pray and I will ask my daughter and her family to pray also. You do sound like you have a wonderful attitude though. With an outlook like yours and the obvious humor you have you can overcome anything. Keep in touch when you can. Katt
  12. I haven't posted for a while cause I have been working really hard and been very busy. Things are finally moving. I have my first appt with Dr. Sabapathy and also with the nutritionist. Then the worst news. Something bad in my mammogram and I have to have a surgical biopsy cause the mammotone thing won't work on whatever the problem in the mammogram is. As far as I'm concerned, they can lop the whole left boob off and take the right one for good measure but they want to biopsy it. And with things finally moving on my WLS. Bah humbug. Have decided to go with Dr. Hitchcock so will see you girls in support group. You have been a big support so far and I do appreciate your help. Katt
  13. You are an inspiration to me. Just thinking of losing 100 lbs in a year is incredible but in 6 months.....the stuff dreams are made of. You can do it. Katt
  14. I have been pursuing LBS with Dr. Hoehn and have completed (I hope) all of the pre-testing. After reading the posts on this thread I am seriously re-considering my choice of physician. What do you really think? Katt
  15. Wow. Isn't it amazing how threads change their course. Most recent research seems to be trending in the direction that obesity is at least in part genetic. There we go with nature vs. nurture again. Only with obesity it seems to be a combination of the two. Plus our sedentary lifestyles. I can tell you for sure that I am allergic to exercise. I break out in sweat. Hate that. I am learning that I don't have to like it, I just have to do it. But back to the topic. I receive no secondary gain from obesity and never have. I acknowledge and accept the part I play in my fat but I do not want it, desire it, gain from it. Katt
  16. I am so blessed that I have a wonderful job that I love which pays me enough to enjoy a lifestyle that I never imagined I would be able to afford. That being said, I am self pay because WLS is excluded by my insurance company. I, of course, wish my insurance company would pay but I am also thankful that I can afford to pay for it myself. I think something is wrong with our entire insurance system. I do support Universal coverage. There are millions of working poor who have no coverage at all. It places a burden on the whole system. It overcrowds our emergency departments to such a level that lives are lost daily because hospitals can't handle the loads. We, as a nation, have a responsibility to take care of the least of our citizens. Katt
  17. Can you have lap band surgery after a gastric by-pass? How would that work? Katt
  18. Just heard on ET that Carnie Wilson has gained some of her weight back and is going to participate in Celebrity Fit Club this year to try and lose 40 lbs. God love her. I hope she makes it. Katt
  19. By Jove I think I've got it! We have all beaten and beaten around the old insurance bush. And I have read the words 'medically necessary' over and over. That is the problem. We are forced to let someone or something else make determinations for us. Define medically necessary. Can't do it. It's different for everyone. It's damned if we do and damned if we don't. Rely on the insurance system and get screwed. Change the system to a univeral coverage and get screwed. It's the plight of humanity. I'm just very grateful that by hook or by crook (and some borrowing) I was able to come up with the bucks to be self pay. I think that anyone who is obese and has struggled to lose should be able to get WLS if they want it. Regardless of numbers and regardless of insurance company policies on not paying for anything. Katt
  20. I try not to get involved in controversy but...I am a nurse also. I see all of the injustices perpetrated in the name of our insurance system. The bottom line is all that matters to insurance companies. My insurance excludes WLS ($15000) but they paid $25,000 for my heart cath last Oct that I wouldn't have needed had I not been overweight. I'm not blaming the insurance industry for my weight problems. I did that all by myself. But as for everything else, they are defenseless. Katt
  21. Carlene please tell me how to make tortilla soup. Please please please please. Thank you. Katt
  22. My PCP wasn't thrilled but my cardiologist is! Katt
  23. I'm in. I'm not banded yet but I'm working on it. I had my cardiac stress test today and have to go back next week for another one (think I was too fat for my heart to be visualized well on the screen). So I have to do something. Tomorrow I start swimming. Oh and I finally got an avatar. It looks like my Bonnie dog. Katt
  24. I'm a Registered Nurse and director of a hospice. I love my job and love hospice and at the end of every day I know I have helped at least 1 person be more comfortable but Bug your job sounds wonderful. How do you get to do that? Katt
  25. Hooray for all of you. Haven't even got a date yet but reading your posts made me feel happy. Katt
