  1. I just woke, (in pain), did a short salt Water gargle, chrushed two percoset pills and put them in a shot glass with apple juice drank it down. The stuff on my tongue doesn't come off. Thrush is what I think it is, thrush is what my daughter said it looked like too when she looked at it. It does pinch my throat from time to time. I'm thinking WHY? I never had this ever once in my entire life. How did I get thrush? My daughter said she thinks it's because my body is going through major changes, sudden starvation, weight loss etc. I'm also cramping up a bit and have had some very soft stools. Plus I'm still in bandages, bleeding around the drain sight and emptying the drain bulb. Oh how I want this part to be over. I feel so weak. This is such a trial. In the hospital although it was hard at times to get comfortable I felt safe. At home alone my nerves are wracked. I'm rambling now. When the pain meds kick in I'll go back to bed. Thanks all for being here. I'll let you know what happens with this tongue of mine! :svengo::scared0:
  2. sounds right to me too....that is also what the doc said, gargle with salt water brush my tongue good and they will contact me in the am. love your smile btw.
  3. right.....well that is what the on call surgeon said too- he said if it gets worse where my swallowing is affected then to go to the nearest er and have them call him. He said it sounds fungal, like a yeast infection. I suspect this stuff comes out when your body is going through this drastic change in nutritional intake? Thanks love.
  4. hmmm the pill went down fine....and I'm feeling it now. I am just afraid to go to sleep...what if my tongue swells up or something? Am I like detoxing maybe from this necessary fast? The things on my tongue are affecting my throat too like making little tickle pricks that I need to cough up. Thanks for being up and answering my call. xxxooo Since the surgery I'm a changed woman, I grovel and beg for mercy and help...you should have seen me in the hospital!
  5. Hey all. I'm freaking out sitting here with my drain and bandages and anxiety overwhelm. I just got in my car and rode to my daughters 3 miles away because I needed support!! Today I had a carrot/apple/celery/parsley/bananna drink made to order from a local juice bar...water...tried some whey protein powder in blender with water only, (yuch)..later organic free range chicken boxed broth...which I loved but it seemed to be giving my throat pinching sensations and caused me the need to exert my abdominal muscles to clear up my throat...ouch. I later had more water/apple juice/water...then my throat kept pinching like there where particles or something iritating it....I brushed my teeth well and gargled but in a few moments the same sensations... so...I felt as if there were particles floating around my mouth, teeth etc. I made a cup of lemon zinger tea and figured that would sooth whatever it was but then I decided to open my mouth and take a look at my tongue and to my HORROR it has white stuff growing all over it like yeast or something!!!:scared0: Freaked, I immediately decided to get my ass to the closest ER and so I got in my car and drove first to my daughters to have her look on the way I phoned the emergency number to my surgeon and one of the on call surgeons told me to calm down, go home, brush my tongue, gargle and go to sleep, and if things get worse then to go to the er and he will tell them what to do. He said it sounds fungle. Has anyone of you gone through anything like this at all??? Was it something I drank?? Is my body detoxing or something?? Will it go away? I have xanax so I asked the attending physician/surgeon who is a member of my surgeons team if I could take one to calm my freaked out nerves and he said YES. So I did but I forgot to crush it and instead swallowed it whole!!!! What is going to happen to me? Will I make it through the night?? I'm so freaked out. :svengo: help help help please won't somebody help me?!
  6. Yummy I'm thrilled to see that there is diversity in food choices. I hope I can handle the post op time liquid only period.
  7. It's getting nearer to Tuesday:scared0:. I sincerely appreciate your support and prayers. I want to send love out to all of you and pray for all of us to have a complication free surgery with a "speedy and uneventful recovery". Thank you God for being with us.
  8. Hi all my surgery is nearly TWO days away...Tuesday the 15th. I can't tell you how many times my feet get cold! My intention is to come back here and tell you all how it went and how I am progressing in detail very soon after my surgery. Can I ask for a prayer? I thank God we're in this together. I'll be praying for each and every one of you too. My doctor's name is Baiju C. Gohil in North Shore LIJ, Syosett, NY.
  9. Good thought carolnphx, I have been sharing information with my mother for a few months now. She is fully supporting my decision although she is a little scared. We are close and although I have a sister, (who supports my decision), she lives further away from my mom and self and is busy with a business 3 kids and a husband. My mother now 80, depends on me. She would rather I were able to eat appropriately and lose the weight without undergoing the risk that surgery poses. My dad lives alone and I have not told him yet but intend to in a few days. Since he doesn't have or want a computer, I'll be prepared with printouts from these and other sources if he is interested, depending on how it goes. I hope I get his support. Thanks.
  10. Thank you Cajun, you are a woman of courage and strength.
  11. You are right Cajun and I need to hear that since it is exactly why I made this decision to begin with. I worry that nothing goes wrong mostly. When I had to have an abdominal hernia repaired I knew I had no choice. I'm second guessing myself since this is elective. I'm ashamed to say that I don't know how many sleeves my surgeon has done but he is the only doctor in the team of bariatric specialty surgeons who does/has done the sleeve. I think if I were a self pay and went to a doc who had the successful stats I have found here, I'd feel less apprehension. I found a reputable hospital relatively close to home so my parents could be with me. The hospital has a "center for bariatric excellence" or whatever, and their are 3 or 4 doctors on the team. My surgeon is the only one who does the sleeve. You have reminded me of why I have wanted this and I just hope I will get it right.
  12. It is reassuring to hear from you all. Please keep in touch and thanks much for the support.
  13. Hi Steph, thanks for reading my story. I just moved, Sept. 1st, myself and 2 cats into a 1 bedroom apt. It was a necessary move, since my daughter took back custody of her son, now 14 who I'd been raising since he was 2. Alot of change alot of emotional and physical strain. I've got my kitchen in order and bathroom. I am working on my bedroom and hope to have things ready before September 15. I've been on the pre surgery diet and sticking to it with little effort since there is so much to do and I just don't have that 30 year old energy any longer. But I am getting so scared so scared that something may go wrong. I would express all my thoughts here but there are just too many. It seems such a drastic thing to do...laparoscopic surgery seems like such an awkward way of maneuvering I just wish I were not so afraid. I've had thoughts of last minute backing out. Yours is the first post directed to me since before I disconnected from the www for this move and my computer was reconnected at my new address. I am very glad to see words of encouragement. My grandson is now back with his mother. This morning my 80 year old mother said she had an awful dream last night, that there were cats all around and one of them looked just like one of my cats. In the dream she was saying "I can't take all of these cats, all I can take is 2 " That got me thinking... I worry. All this stress is just getting the best of me. I just hope and pray I make it through. Thank you again for being here.
  14. Congratulations! Only 2 days now. How are you doing? My sleeve surgery is scheduled for 9/15. I'm sort of stressed. From what I've seen so far the sleeve may do the job for you. Here's wishing you a very smooth and speedy recovery- keep us posted, we're here for you. God bless. L-
  15. Hi all, some of you may already know, but I'm scheduled for the sleeve surgery on Sept. 15. I'm on my 3rd day of 2 protein shakes and 1 light meal.
  16. It's a good thing you found that out! I'd also like to know how. It is interesting since the morphine is supposed to deaden pain. Did your allergic reaction cause the drug not to work effectively? :confused1: PS- I do hope you are feeling much better.
  17. Congrats to you Kelly...Again, it is so great to know how well you are doing. Oh how I wish I too were having my surgery in Mexico! I hear nothing but good things. Keep us informed on your progress. -LAN-
  18. Hey Alisia, It's great to hear from you so soon after your surgery. Mine is scheduled for Sept.15, so I'm not there yet, but I think that the pain you are feeling will fade as your healing moves along. What helps that unbearable empty feeling? Are the liquids going down okay and do they satisfy you at all? Please do keep us posted as you progress. I am really glad to see you are doing well. Keep the faith, the best is yet to come. -LAN-
  19. Thanks Natalie...it's true once I read of the band complications, the stats meant nothing! The thought of having that thing implanted alone just doesn't jive with me. As for my up coming sleeve surgery, even though my insurance is covering for me--I'd feel sooooooooo much better if I were able to self pay and be in Dr. Aceves care. Thank God for Mexico and their excellent surgeons and facilities. I just hope there will be no glitches in my surgery. Terrific post Natalie. My heart goes out to you and other's here who have had to endure but through it all have gained strength and found resolution. If these band complications are not able to remedy, perhaps the time will come where the band will be banned. I know I made the right decision I just hope that my sleeve surgery will go well. I got the jitters. :biggrin0: God bless each and every one of you.
  20. Once again there is a lag between the time of this thread and my citing it...(but I've only been registered here about 2 weeks now), so I'm not too sure that anyone will even read this. I'd like to add (for the record) my 2 cents. I have been researching WLS's for many months now and of this I am certain, I would not hesitate to have my surgery performed by Dr. Alberto Aceves/Mexicali, Mexico, if I had the funds, which, BTW, include travel expenses and follow-up. I would feel much less anxiety knowing that I was in his care and facility. I am going through a Hospital with a "Center for Bariatric Excellence" It is a North Shore/Long Island Jewish Hospital in Syosset. I wouldn't call it a dump. The WLS center does have a fat farm factory sort of feel to it, but then the centers sole purpose is WLS. I have met with my surgeon 3 times already and spent at least 40 minutes with him at each visit. My next appointment at the hospital will be for the pre-surgery testing on Sept. 9. My surgery is set for the 15th. He is one of 3, or 4 "specialty surgeons". My surgeon is the only one there who does the VSG procedure. I made my decision based on many factors, money, insurance, proximity and a doctor with (I pray) the expertise. WASa, (among others here), is right I mean everything she has said is spot on. Despite my insurance approval for the sleeve...it is a "no-brainer" if I were in a position to self-pay I would go where I would have the greatest certainty for success...Mexico and to Dr. Aceves for sure. His reputation is impeccable. And the people in these message boards have been there and testified honestly to his merit.:biggrin0:
  21. Wow Natalie, I know you wrote this a while ago but I am so glad you told your story. After just a short while into researching the band, (thinking I might get a band), I saw way too many cases where people who were banded, encountered problems. Much of what I read was so awful that I actually had a nightmare one night, awoke in a sweat thinking I had the band in me. I sat straight up startled and in panic mode, before I realized (unintended pun), it was a dream. And it was then that I was certain that the Lap band was not for me. In the back of my mind I remembered reading something about a sleeve and when I looked into it, it made good sense. My surgery date for the VSG is Sept. 15. Thanks for writing this. I have passed this forward to friends and family. God bless.
  22. Thanks Ky.hen...I needed that. ...and the very best to you too.
  23. Big smile here cajun. The Jay Robb is pretty good, the sweetness is OK although I like a bit more. I mixed my Jay Robb chocolate shake today with a bit of organic instant coffee I picked up at a local "Trader Joe's" grocery store. It tasted pretty good. I've been mixing the powder with 1% milk. In the afternoon I used 1/2 cup of orange juice and a few chunks of pineapple some ice and made a really refreshing frozen smoothie. The only thing that grounds me in my decision is how confounding it is to rid myself, myself, of this excess weight. Who knew that after I hit menopause, what once was at least somewhat manageable would become impossible... my belly has become so stretched that when I eat I feel as if something is going to tear inside of me. My knees hurt so intensely that I have to get on all fours to prop myself up into a standing position if I am seated low (like on a beach chair or towel). My heavy belly pulls...It hurts to stand too long, (hips and lower back), it hurts to walk too long (hips and lower back). My middle and belly are so heavy that I'm always in pain. I'm hardly living...It's true I'm scared...a coward! But live or die, (and I pray I live)...I know that I am going through with this...and I am bracing myself in every way I can. It's great that your paperwork is in! You will be having your surgery in Mexico? It seems the doctors in Mexico are excellent. There aren't that many surgeons in the US that do the VGS. I do hope that the surgeon I found has what it takes to do the job on me and do it well. I'm just going to surrender it over to God and pray that He is in it every second of the way. Let us know when you have your date!
  24. Thank so much! I agree it's a good thing I labeled the box with my kitchen stuff already. I want to do just that, prepare the place for what I will need post op. Thanks again.
