Almost At the 50 Lb. Mark!!
Dec. 13th _ I was to go to the Dr. On Dec. 9th, but cancelled as I didn't feel like I needed a fill, and he had scheduled this appointment just for me as he realy didn't want me to come back until Jan. I will go in On January 19th. I am weighing 184. When I get to 180 it will be a a 50 lb. loss. The dr.s scales are 1 lb. less than mine. I am trying to exercise 40 minutes a day on the treadmill. The exercise really helps to shed the pounds!! I lost 3 pounds this past week. It is nice to fit in to some of my old shirts and sweaters that I still have as I haven't had to go out and buy anything new. Maybe another couple of pair of pants in another month or two. I am not really that hungry most of the time, so the band is doing it's job. When it is time to eat I don't have to eat that much before I am full. Yea!!!

Oct 10th Dr. Appointment
Just got back from the Dr. I lost 3 more pounds so now I am down 30 pounds and should be under 200 pounds at my next dr. appointment. He says I am doing just great. He says it is better to loose it more slowly so the skin has time to adjust and isn't saggy. My BMI has dropped from 38 to 31. He gave me a 1/2 cm fill so I have a 1 and1/2 cm fill. He said it will take 3- 4 fills to get just the right amount of restriction. I will go back in 3 weeks on Halloween. I told the dr. I will expect him to be in costume! I need to get another pair of blue jeans as my one pair is too big. I don't want to get too much invested in my pants as I won't be wearing them for very long, as I drop in size.

POLL:How many lbs did you loose...
I lost 10 pounds before my surgery and then 14 pounds after the surgery and then another 3-4 pounds and am about at 30 pounds. Have had my first fill a week ago, 1cc, but don't feel much of any restriction so I go back in a week from today and will have another fill. Seems like the weight loss is very slow 1 pound or so a week.

wilson jw23, I would certainly go for the fill. My dr.scheduled an appointment every two weeks after my surgery and on the 6th week scheduled a fill, which was a week ago. I don't feel much of any restriction so I think he will do another fill the next time when I go. He only put in 1 cc when he did the first fill. I didn't feel any different after that , but he wants to gradually build up to the right amount of fill so that I am not over filled and end up not being able to even swallow! I had lost 24 pounds right after the surgery and then two more pounds and then at the last visit 1 more pound so he felt at the 6 week mark that I was ready due to the very few pounds I had lost in the last 4 weeks. I am trying to exercise more too as that is very important to this whole plan.

Sept. Weight Loss Journey
Sept 12, Went to Dr. today and had lost 2 lbs in the last two weeks , so he scheduled me for a fill on Sept 26th. I have felt very little restriction. I am ready for my first fill Sept. 26, Saw the Dr. today and I had only lost 1 lb. in two weeks, my exercising has been off as I have been away from home two-3 weeks and my daughter took a new job and have been spending several hours each day at her house babysitting our new grandbaby( 1month) and 4 year old granddaughter. I have lost about 30 lbs since my surgery. Have not bought many clothes as I have some that finally fit now, but didn't pre surgery. I had my first fill today, but don't feel any restriction or different then before my fill. Maybe it takes a while. I go back in two weeks to see if I need more fill. It's great to be down those 30 lbs, but no one other than my mom and my husband have noticed my weight loss. That is a little disappointing. I can move areound alot better and can go up and down the stairs a little faster.

Has Anyone Had To Self Pay For Their Surgery I Could Use Some Advice!!!
yes, Everyone has to go to see the nutritionist, etc and have chest x-rays etc and for me it was at my own cost and was not included in the 11,000. My dr. was just great I see him every two weeks since surgery and had my first fill two days ago and go back in another two weeks. I always see him and not just the nurse, like some banders that have said they never see the dr. after their surgery only a nurse.

Hi to all of you bandsters in England!!! Sounds like you are all having good results. I live in the U.S. and was just banded on August 17 and went for my first fill today. I felt like I had little restriction and after a conservative fill of 1cc we will see if there is more restriction. Have lost 27 pounds so far before my fill. We have been doing alot of research on England as our 22 year old son is applying through Idaho State University in Pocatello, where we live, to go to college at Plymouth or UCLAN in Preston. He also put in for Huddersfield?? and Sunderland. He is a Business Management Major(junior/senior status) and plans to go for a full school year and hopes to work while there for a few hours each week. I hear from people that we know that have lived in England that they would love to go back and live there if it weren't so expensive!!! People we talk to said they just loved it in England! Any one know anything about any of these colleges??? Our son has been planning this trip for almost two year. He is an avid soccer player himself and Manchester United is his favorite team. He had the chance to see them play when they were in Seattle Washington 3 years or so ago. He loves the British way of life, he thinks, so wants to live it ! Keep up the good work all of you in the U.K. !! Thanks, Paige My husband and I will hope to go to visit our son while he is there .

I love my treadmill. I fast walk for 30-40 minutes and go about 2 miles. I try to do it first thing in the morning. I like this machine because I can set the speed, and incline. I have it at a 5 % incline out of 10% and start walking at about 2.5-2.8 mph for three minutes and then up it to 3mph for the rest of the time. This really does work for loosing weight.

Has Anyone Had To Self Pay For Their Surgery I Could Use Some Advice!!!
Hi Pink Soprano, No, I haven't had any complications! I had only lost 2 pounds when I went to my last appointment and had lost 24 at my first appointment. In the last two weeks I don't think I have lost anything according to my scales. So I am looking forward to the fill today as I don't feel like I have much if any restriction. I have got to get back into exercising as I know that is a very important part of all of this, but have been away for two weeks from my treadmill and have got to get back on it!! 11,000 was a lot to pay and I need to do my part.

Has Anyone Had To Self Pay For Their Surgery I Could Use Some Advice!!!
Hi, I ended up self paying as our insurance wanted me to do another 6 month diet and I figured if I lost the weight then they wouldn't pay anyway. My main issue is that I can lose the weight, but keeping it off is not easy. The band would be a helpful tool for this. I had my surgery done for 11,000 in Blackfoot, Idaho. This is about 30 minutes from where we live. if you are covered by insurance they charge 15,000. They also do it in Idaho Falls,Idaho for about the same price. This covers the fills and dr. appointments post op for a year. Then the fills self pay are 100.00 each. I had to pay it all up front two days prior to surgery. I had sugery on August 17th and have lost 26 pounds thus far , and will have my first fill today! Paige

Pocatello anyone?
Hi, I live in Pocatello and was banded in Blackfoot on August 17th! Dr. Avila did my surgery. I will get my first fill on this Tuesday, Sept. 26th. He is really a nice Dr. and conservative and careful about everything. I really like Bingham Memorial Hospital, being a smaller hospital you were treated like you were the only one there! They also do the surgery in Idaho Falls. I was self pay as our insurance wanted me to go on another 6 month diet and at 51 years of age I had been there and done most diets losing a little and gaining it back plus more. It was time to really do something different. Looks like you were banded last year. How are things going for you ? Paige

Reasonably priced Drs in the US for Self payers?
Hi BMarsh, In Blackfoot Idaho, Dr. Avila charges $11,000 self pay and 15,000 for insurance pay. Idaho Falls is just about the same. This covers all fills for a year and all of the follow up appointments after surgery. I really like Dr. Avila and have lost 28 pounds since surgery on August 17th. Ten pounds of that I lost prior to surgery. Paige

AUGUST Bandits
Hi all, I was banded August 17th. I have lost 27-28 pounds and will get my first fill at my next appointment, on Tuesday the 26th. My weight loss has really slowed down. I only lost 2 pounds the last two weeks and maybe 1 pound these past two weeks. I know I need to exercise more and plan to start up again. Too much change in routine and away from my treadmill. How is everyone else doing with weight loss?

First Doctor's Appointment Post Op
Yester day, August 30th I went to the surgeons office. When I was weighed I had lost 24 pounds. The nurse was very excited about that. When the Doctor came in he started to look at my chart and said do you know how much you have lost? I told him yes, but that I did lose some of the weight prior to surgery as I had cut back on my carbs and had been walking 2 miles on my treadmill. I probably had lost 10 pounds from May until my August 17th surgery. While I was there he took off my steri strips that had been covering my incisions. He said I was healing very well. I am happy anyway for the 24# loss. I am scheduled to go back to him on Sept. 12. He told me I could eat anything you would feed a baby. So I had a cup of clam chowder last evening. Yogurt fro breakfast as usual.

August Band Crew!!!!!
The pain medication like Vicodin usually makes me sick so I took only 2 one each night for two nights after I got home. They gave me a patch behind my ear for nausea right out of surgery. They also gave me phenegren during surgery for nausea. I did really well with not being sick I think because of these two drugs. My surgery was two weeks ago tomorrow. I am down 24 pounds I think 10 of it came off prior to surgery. Had my 2 week check up today and can eat anything you'd feed a baby, according to my doctor.( creamy and mushy) I will go back in two more weeks and then he said I probably could try solid foods. Hope your nausea is better soon. Try to get by on children's Extra strength Tylenol liquid.

Crushing pills
I bought a pill crusher and have not needed to use it. I take a prenatal vitamin my daughter is sharing with me, as I have not taken vitamins in the past, but felt rather tired after the first week and a half of all liquid diet. This pill is a horse sized pill and it has gone down fine. You might try just taking one pill at a time with a little water before you pursue crushing pills.

diarrhea + nausea
Hi, I had diarrhea for a couple of days about 4 days after my surgery. It went away the next day as I was told I could eat yogurt and slim fast, which I did and the diarrhea stopped. I was told this is common because of the clear liquid diet.

Loosing Weight
Today is August 28th and a week and a half since my surgery. I decided to weigh myself for the first time since my initial visit to the surgeon in May, a couple of nights ago. In May I weighed 230 pounds. The dr. took a picture of me. I had been cutting back on carbs and exercising quite a bit on the treadmill since May. I now weigh 208 pounds. My clothes are starting to feel bigger on me. A jacket that I wore with my dress pants is too big now. That is a good feeling. I feel like I am hungry even after I eat my yogurt or my Slim Fast. I know I won't get a fill until 6 weeks out in order to give my stomach time to heal. My stitches are starting to itch and I am able to sleep on my stomach now without pain.
