  1. Wow! That is expensive. Just a thought... Does it have to be optifast or was that just a suggestion? Have you tried comparing nutrient information with other brands that are not as expensive?
  2. I went to a pre-op education class today (mandatory) and we went over what to expect before, during, and after surgery and even though I could have taught the class myself I was like "ah did I really sign up for this" It just made everything seem so real. Made me get all nervous again. I only have to do liquids 2 days pre-op. Post-op is 1 week Clear Liquids, 1 week full liquids, 1 week mushies, then soft.
  3. Good luck tomorrow you will be in all of our thoughts. Be sure to keep us updated!
  4. Hey Neil, welcome! I'm being banded on the 6th, just 1 week from today! I can't believe how fast time is flying. It'll be here before we know it. We have a May support group May 09 Bandsters - Lap Band Surgery and Lap Band Discussion Forum come by and say hi. I've also added you to our dates only thread, come by and see who you will be banded with at http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f18163/mayo-banditos-dates-only-91909/index3.html
  5. Okay, I have to admit I freaked out today. I've been really good. (for the most part) I've been having shakes and Protein bars and a meal in the evening trying to be good as possible. Well I was driving home for work and it hit me. 1 week until surgery. I really wanted to start a pre-op diet today, just shakes and protein. But called my husband and told him to meet me somewhere for dinner. I pigged out then asked him to run to the store for dessert. Oh well, tomorrow is a brand new day and I'll start fresh. I stocked up my pantry back in Feb thinking I was going to have surgery in March, so I think I'm ready. I went to the store today for fresh juice and diet V8's and the such for my 2 day liquid diet. I have a pre-op education class tomorrow that is mandatory. Ann, I have not ever had a surgery, but my youngest son has had a few. I'm not so much nervous about the surgery as i am the life changing decision I am about to undertake. As for band slippage, oh yeah that really scares me.

  8. Wow 2 toddlers , how old are they? I'm sure they will keep you busy! I think you'll be fine (physically not mentally lol) as long as they are okay with you not picking them up for awhile. I hope you have someone there who will be able to help you.

  10. I can't believe May is only 2 days away! That means only 2days until Bliss0320, DougNC and DeAndraBaby start their journey, and then the domino effect begins for us all ....yikes!!!! How are you all doing. Surgery for me is only 1 week from tomorrow and it seems it's coming faster than I ever imagined. I am a nervous wreck 1 minute, excited the next. Anyone need to vent and share their pre-surgery gitters and excitement?

  12. I'm a hair stylist and my surgery is on a Wednesday as well. My days off where thursday and friday and was just going to take those off and go back on Saturday but after asking around was convinced to take more days off. I traded schedules with a girl at work and now I don't have to go back to work until the following Wednesday. Hopefully that will be plenty of time. I hear everyone is differnt so good luck to us all!
  13. Amy, have you tried fresh spinach, what about asparagus can you have broccoli? I think cabbage counts as a green veggie and is really good sauteed with onions and a little olive oil. Hope this helps. I have just been doing slim fast shakes and Protein bars and healthy dinner. I found this web site that has tons of low carb recipes maybe there are some ideas on there.http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/salad_recipes.html
  14. Hello, I'm a hair stylist as well, and all the girls I work with are great friends and I have told everyone. Told them, they have been very supportive, but have also expressed their concern for my safety. I have even told some of my clients, your right, they see you every six weeks or so they are going to notice. If you don;t feel good about telling others you are being banded, you could tell them you are just controlling your portion size because it is true. I would think it would depend on how close you are to your fellow co-workers. Good luck with your journey and if you ever have any questions just ask. I think it would be great to chat with a fellow stylist. Also where in Missouri are you and where will you be having surgery?
  15. OMG! I am so sorry to hear that! I keep thinking something is going to come up and I won't be able to get surgery. I know how devastated I would be to hear that. What does a spranged ankle have to do with anything? Are you able to walk on your foot? Just a quick word of encouragement... don't think of your diet all for nothing. If you have lost weight you are that much closer to your goal. Don't let losing your date get you down and gain it all back. I don't have to do a pre-op diet but am anyway because every pound I lose before surgery is one pound less I will have to lose after surgery. Get better soon!!!!
  16. I've told almost everyone I work with that I am having the band. I have had a lot of questions which is fine, but i have also had them show concern for me. A lot of people hear stories about friends or family that have had weight loss surgery (mostly bypass) and have had serious complications and so then they worry about me. Others are not afraid to give their opinions on whether they think I'm crazy for doing this or not. Most people, even if they are very thin, are self conscious about the way they look. I just ask them flat out if they were my size and have tried everything under the sun to lose weight, succeeds, then gains it back, would they consider surgery if they knew this time they could be successful and they usually agree. I think a lot of people may just not want to have to defend their decision to others. That is my guess.
  17. Hey BANDitos!!! Although our band dates aren't here yet they are fast approaching!!!! Less than 3 weeks for me YAY!!! :thumbup:and WOW!!! Some of you have already started your journey with pre-op diets prescribed by the surgeon and others have decided to begin their journey on their own before being banded. I was wanting to wait but decided "why wait to start this life changing journey" I have talked about that little devil that sits on my shoulder tempting me through out the day. Most of the time he is very persuading and easy to give into. I've been telling my self for weeks to start exercising but until I committed myself to change I was just kidding myself. 2 days ago I kept trying to talk myself into going for a walk and finally succeeded. I had an errand to run and instead of driving the .75 miles it took to get there I walked. Yesterday I needed to go to the Library to return some books and talked myself into walking the 1.5 miles to the Library instead of driving. Today I have a meeting at the school that is 2 miles away and uphill to boot. I am planning on walking. Right now each day is a struggle to do whats best for me, whether it is making the right food choices or doing a little bit of exercise, but once I have made the right choice it feels great!!!!! So I thought I would start a thread where we can give ourselves kudos and back pats for a job well done. Even if it is not giving into temptation as small as one more Hershey's kiss after we have already had one or two (we all know how hard it is to stop) or whatever that day's temptation might have been. You know a woo hoo I did it! After the band we will have a tool and it will still be difficult, but right now it's just us baby and we all know how difficult the struggle can be, so here's to us!!!!
  18. Hey Amy I agree with Ann. I have been so excited lately that I can hardly contain myself. I don't have to do a pre-op diet except for a 2 day liquid diet before surgery, but I have been making better food choices and even went for a walk today. (It was finally nice enough to do so) I had an errand to run and instead of hoping in my car for the mile ride I decided to walk instead. I don't want to wait until my surgery to start losing weight I want to start my journey now. I do have to admit for now I am planning to do slim fast and Protein bars and just have 1 healthy meal a day. I don't want to do a complete liquid diet because I have to do liquids for 2 weeks after surgery and I don't think I'm that strong.

  21. MMMM! Maybe I should start a pre-op diet!!! It might calm my nerves.
  22. Shalee04 - glad to see a 40+ finding sex more desirable after weight loss. I was looking at the ages and saying to myself "yeah they are all in their 30's at their peak" so maybe there's still hope for me?!?!?!
  23. TxAmy (aka Dr. Suess) reese's Peanut Butter cups, oh man they are my favorite! Well that and snickers, and peanut m&m's and and... Yeah, I think this is the best month, not that I would have complained if I would have had a date in March or April, but then I wouldn't be a mayo bandito with all of you!!!!
  24. We can do it, yes we can, we can do it with the band! GOOOOOOOOOOO TEAM!!!!!!
