I have my date!

Dr. David Kim is going to perform my lap band surgery on May 21, 2009. I can hardly believe it. I've been researching the lapband for over 2 years. I guess I got the date quickly because I'm a self pay:eek: I'm sure it will be worth it, though. I actually nearly scheduled the surgery 2 years ago, but dh got laid off and we lost our insurance. Now I have insurance, but I didn't want to wait anymore at my age. I want to live my life now! Looking forward to being able to post about my surgery day.

 Hello, thats so wonderful. I am going in for my surgery in June. I am so exicted yet very nervous. Your right about not waiting anymore. I feel the same way. I want to be alive for my children. My uncle died at 36 and my grandpa at 50. This is something I can not avoid any longer. I must do this. Hope to keep in touch with you.

Hello, MustLoseIt. I hope we can keep in touch too. You won't be very far behind me. Are you going to have to do the 2 week Optifast? I will start that on May 7th. Maybe I'll get a headstart on losing some of this weight during these two weeks.

Susan

TexSue - Thats awesome. Good for you. Its all so exciting. I am going through my "testing" process - still have a few to do. I should have a date in a few weeks hopefully and I'll be right with you. Keep us all posted on the pre-op diet and how things are going!! And CONGRATS:thumbup:

Welcome and congrats texsue! I've added you to our dates only thread, come on over and see who your band buddies will be. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f18163/mayo-banditos-dates-only-91909/index3.html and here is a link to the may support group May 09 Bandsters - Lap Band Surgery and Lap Band Discussion Forum

Txquiltlady - Do you quilt? I'm a quilter too. Ever go to Quilters Dream?

I really liked everyone at Dr. Kim's office. I'm even getting excited about barriatric University. Was it really informative?

Susan

Yes, I make quilts I live in Keller. I've been to quilter dream a few times. Yesterday was my 1st day back to work it was tough. Today is was a better day. I have a quilting group at my church.

Quilting is a great hobby. Did you feel like quilting while you were recouperating? How long did you take off. I figure since my surgery is on Thurs., I'll take the following week off.

Hi Tex Sue - I have had blood work, abdominal ultra sound, upper GI series, chest x-ray. Still need to have a sleep study and a clear from my cardiologist. So 2 more hurdles. I have my psych exam on Monday. Have you had all of these tests, or were these for my insurance co, or maybe my surgeon just requires all of these. My doc office checked with my ins co, and found out what the requirements were, and what my responsibility for payment would be. Its been about 2 months since I attened the seminar. I am hoping to get all of the remainding testing completed with in the next week or so, and then all can be submitted to the ins co THEN I can get a date for surgery. What a process!!!

Congrats and good luck texsue...just wishing u the best from a fellow dfw prospective bander!!!

Good luck to you all with your dates - I was banded in 2005 and just had to have mine replaced cause it was causing a gastric blockage. Remember ladies and gents, the WORST part of the whole thing is the gas pains from the lap procedure. Get your tired sore butticuses out of bed the nite of surgery and walk around on the hospital floor as much as you can if the doc says you are ambulatory and you had a lap procedure. The walking makes the gas not sit under your diaphram which HURTS LIKE HECK. There were no rooms for me in the hospital when I had my emergency replacement done last week so I could not walk around and I was in misery from the gas pains for days - needed IV pain meds for it which I didn't need the first go round - the incisions - not a whit. Walk Walk Walk Walk even if you are bent over like a question mark and you don't want to. I have had two lap bands put in and lost 120# - now weigh 135 down from 252. It works, I swear, and you will be so much happier for it. Mosey.

ahb08,

Good luck on your banding, too. Have you picked out a doctor yet? Dr. Kim and his staff are really great.

Mosey, congratulations on your weight loss. I hope to be down in the 130's too. Maybe even the 120's. I've already promised myself that I will walk no matter what. Thanks for the encouragement.
