  1. Welcome! Seminar, dr appt, and it seems like the next thing you know you are doing the pre-op diet. Well it wasn't that fast but time really flies. My DH is the same way. When we started dating 35 yrs ago he weighed 117 lbs and I weighed 118 and I have out weighed him the majority of these years. He has put on 50 lbs and I am proud of each one so to speak. :tt1: Good luck and remember it is natural to be a little nervous.
  2. Welcome CreatingPspFun, I also have sleep apnea and a strong family history of heart diease. I was worried sick about getting approval but I did, it took 6 wks. I have not had my surgery yet as it was put off due to needing a nuclear stress test but it was rescheduled for 5/1. Good luck and have patience as it will all work out.
  3. Thanks again for the encouragement Spud.mama and Susie 46. They say the test will be done in one day actually 3 hours and get the results the following week. It is the waiting that's hard. I know it will happen eventually and the time will fly by just like this year has. Hard to believe it is almost May. Patience is a virture at least that I tell my husband when he gets impatient.
  4. Having a duh day and hit the wrong key. Thanks again. I wonder how much I can lose by May 1st? :rolleyes2:
  5. Thanks. I know logically it will work out but I still worry that something will come up and keep me from having the surgery. I will b
  6. I am so frustrated and disappointed. :rolleyes2: I was scheduled for my banding tomorrow morning but have had to put it off for a couple of weeks due to inclusive stress tests. First, you know how you have to have the standard EKG? Mine showed a tiny abnormal result (which was probably due to me being stressed for being a few minutes late after being hung up in traffic) so I had to schedule a bicycle stress test. The girl said the target was to get my heart rate to 140 and I told her she wasn't going to get it that high as I am on 3 bp meds and I have a naturally slow heart beat, well she got me to 120 and stopped the test. Low and behold drs office called and said they wanted me to have an echocardiogram to get my hr to 140. I'm ok with that. Well, this girl was having a problem seeing a portion of my heart due to "the girls" being dense so now they want me to have the nuclear stress test done but that can't be done until next Thursday. I don't have a problem with that it just means I have a good surgeon who wants to make sure I do good during surgery. I am just disappointed. Sorry for this being long winded. Surgery is tentatively scheduled now for May 1st which means I am on the pre-op diet for two more weeks but the good news is I have lost 10 lbs.

Hi everyone. My name is Jean, I am 54 yrs old and I live in Texas. I will be married in August 35 years and have two daughters 31 and 26 and two of the cutest grandsons, 3 1/2 and the other will be 2 next month. I started thinking about LB last August but my husband's insurance did not cover it. I decided to take the health insurance with the company I work for after I checked out the two and chose Empire BCBS so attended a seminar in January and will be banded on 4/17. Yippeee! I am 5'1' and have been fighting the weight battle for 25 years after being treated for Graves disease. I have high BP, sleep apnea, and everything else related to being overweight. I have to break the curse of the women in my family and live out of my 60s. I am so excited and am doing the preop diet now. If you think I talk alot now you should be around me if I have a cup of regular coffee. A total hyper bunny.
  8. PharmaGirl - To me it sounded like a pretty good one especially after reading what others have been on to get ready. Did you notice that all the veggies are green? Good thing I love veggies of all sorts. Even knowing that I can have more than others (sorry everyone) who have started on this journey yesterday later in the day (my first day on it) I got sick to my stomach because I was used to eating more and my stomach was not happy at all. I always said I didn't snack (famous last words) and didn't realize what I was doing until I stopped myself several times from reaching for a drink of milk or a grab a couple of nuts when my stomach starting growling. Everyone keeps asking me if I am nervous and I tell them no I am excited and cannot wait! I am very interested in the April community and thanks for the link and the invite. I will go there and check it out. Good luck on your banding on April 23rd!!! We can make this journey together.
  9. Thanks Amberatar. mj101089, my diet for the next two weeks is a follows: Meal 1: 1 serving of 2: yogurt, fruit, egg, whole grain Cereal, toast, bagel, waffle, muffin Meal 2: 1 serving of Protein drink Meal 3: 1 serving (4-6 onces) of lean meat or fish AND 1 serving of green vegetable (lettuce, peas, broccoli, green Beans, spinach, etc) Meal 4: 1 serving of Protein Drink Not too bad a diet. I will start tomorrow.
  10. I have a surgery date!! I will be banded on 4/17 and I am so excited. I am supposed to start the pre-op diet tomorrow but the doctor said I can start Saturday because my MIL passed away and the funeral is tomorrow. I will watch what I eat and will stay as close to the diet as possible. Just another example of life and making the correct choices. Just call me a boot scootin' dancing machine or would be if I owned a pair of cowboy boots. I know, hard to imagine a Texan who doesn't own a pair of cowboy boots but I could never get them to go over my calves.:smile2:
  11. We almost bought a house in Colleyville. Amy Elizabeth is my daughter's name also. Dr Marsden will be doing mine in Hurst and I have an appt next Thursday with him. Even though it took 6 weeks to finally get approved I am lucky that I don't have to do the 6 month thing which really surprised me but I have been on every diet out there known to man but I am totally stoked and ready.
  12. Welcome! I started with talking with people I work with who have had it done. They all said to find a doctor who does this type of surgery for a living because they are more familiar with how to do the surgery and to attend a seminar in my area to see if it was actually something I really wanted to do. This forum is a very good place to talk to others who have had it done and learn. Internet research is another tool I used. Good luck!
  13. Finally!! After six weeks of waiting I am approved!!! I was beginning to doubt whether it would happen. Six weeks ago today the paperwork was first submitted and I got notice that the insurance needed two recent blood pressure readings, the results of the sleep study I had done 6 1/2 years ago and they needed the doctor doing the surgery to resubmit the letter to insurance with "his" signature no someone in his office. Got the BP readings immediately to them. I explained that the doctor who ordered the sleep study passed away from cancer and his office closed and the place I had the sleep study done at was now closed and I had no records to give them. My DH offered to take a picture of me sleeping with my CPAP machine but I said no, no one was going to see that. :w00t: So everything was resubmitted on the 18th to the insurance and the waiting began again. I called my case manager yesterday and she suggested I call the insurance RN myself to see if I could get a response. I called this afternoon and got her vm and hung up planning to call her back. Low and behold less than 10 minutes later she called me and told me I was APPROVED!!!!!!! Again less than 5 minutes later I had a call from the Doctors office scheduling my appointment with the surgeon. Sorry for this being so long but I am sooo excited I can hardly stand it. My DH says to schedule it as quick as I can (I think he is excited for me too). So, a short story made long I say to everyone who is waiting for approval and getting totally frustrated on the waiting part, HANG IN THERE!! it's worth it. :smile2:
  14. I am at the same point as the two of you are. My paperwork was submitted to ins and I am waiting. Waiting on someone else to make a decision about my health is SO HARD!
  15. I know what you mean. I am still waiting for approval. I am anxious and the waiting is hard then I remember why I want to do this...the sweetest two things in my life, Caleb and Caden, my grandsons. I have in the past "been there, done that, never got the t-shirt", done it on my own but always wind up in this same spot. I know everyone here has been in the same place and will be a great source of help and information. Good luck to you and remember, we can do this and we can do it together.
  16. That's great. I am still waiting for approval, The insurance wanted the last 2 BP readings sure wish I could use what it was last night (191/98). They had to request the surgeon to resign the verification, someone else had done it and the insurance wanted his signature. Dud, who would have thought. Right now my "walking" consists of our dogs walking us but it's a good work out. I love snow, we don't get much here in TX. It was 28 Sunday morning (we were RV camping) and it supposed to be mid 80s Thursday. Go figure.
  17. Welcome! Happy to have you join us. I am new here too and am waiting on insurance approval. I lurked a couple of weeks before I joined and it seems everyone is very nice and helpful. Good luck!
  18. Thanks Olivia_99. Good for you on having the fish and veggies instead of the pizza. Pizza is one of my favorites so I can imagine how hard it must have been. Have you been banded long?
  19. Jump on the "Band" wagon with the rest of us. Couldn't help myself sorry. I' m new here too and at this point still waiting on approval.
  20. Thanks I appreciate the support. I love being a Texan. Going out of town and worried about missing "the" call so I made sure I could access my work vm and hope I have cell service where I will be, that's how stressed I am. Guess I can run, I mean walk, up the highest point for a good signal.
  21. Hi everyone! New here and like some of you I am now waiting on insurance approval. Just found out my paperwork was submitted to insurance last Thursday. Part of me is so afraid to get excited and my stomach is tied up in knots. Good luck to everyone who is playing the waiting game along with me.
  22. Hi I too have a CPAP and am so glad I do. I got tired of being tired all the time from the snoring (waking myself up multiple times) and worrying about keeping my DH awake so much I would sit up all night. When I first got it it took me a few days to get use to the air pressure and I had to get the small over the nose type. I sleep on my back so when I snore my mouth wouldn't stay shut so I tied a bandana under my chin to keep it shut, like Jacob Marley in the Christmas Carol. Looks funny but it works like a charm. DH says he feels he is sleeping with an alien but I tell him at least he is sleeping. It does get easier so don't give up on it, it worth it.
  23. Sorry, said I was new to this forum, heck to any forum. Anyway I need 3 things, 1 psych eval, 1 visit with a licensed nutritionist, and a letter from my pcp listing all the diets I had tried. Did the psych evaluation yesterday and she said she didn't see any reason I won't be approved. Do you think I can get a little excited about being approved? Wish I was closer to getting banded like you all.
