  1. AW! Brandee is a cute name for your band. Mine's gonna be Gizmo! Spud
  2. My 4 1/2 yr old had his tonsils and adnoids out 2 weeks ago. He did great! Luckily cuz of his age he had to stay over night so he could get Fluid from the IV. I hear that's the main thing to get fluids. Ice chips like crazy! He eventually had so many pop cycles that he didn't want anymore. lol Took a week and a day or two before he went back to school (I think I backed off of the pain meds too much, too soon, and regular Tylenal is a joke). She'll be fine, but as with any surgery prayer is a must. Spud
  3. It also might depend what your starting weight is and how much you have to lose. I'm in the 275 and I only have to lose 13lbs before surgery. For me they did not specify how, just the amount. I'd ask your doc tomorrow. Good Luck.
  4. I haven't be banded yet, but I've had a few people tell me that they used the lid to the Water bottle to drink. I've also heard to use a little eye dropper type of thing, and a shot glass. Maybe that will help? Good luck. Spud
  5. I have not met anyone who has truly regretted getting the band. Everyone has said they would do it again even with all their complications. And remember not everyone has complication. If you are feeling "weak" you maybe a little anemic. Ya lose alot of blood with surgery. Take Iron and you may feel better in a few days. Don't forget you other Vitamins too. Don't regret the band. Good Luck Spud
  6. When I wake us really hungry and can't go back to sleep cuz of it, I drink some milk (not warm, thats gross to me) or something to raise my blood sugar levels. Low blood sugar will do the same thing--waking you up in the middle of the night.
  7. I had a client once who had an oxygen tank and she was a little bitter about it and we discussed naming it since she had to be with it 24/7 and she said it was a 'pain in the ass' so we called it PITA. Thought that was funny you thought of it too, but you are feelin the LOVE for yours.
  8. Those were a kick to read! Does anyone else have names for their band? I know Bandy and Billy are out there. By the way, Spud Mama came about cuz my name is Ada and my nick name is Ada Potada. So I get alot of Spud names. At times I am Mashed or Fried! Thanx for Playin! Spud Mama
  9. After reading a few posts by people having issues with the thought of having a "foreign" object in them, and hearing someone name their band, I decided that mine needs a name. After all, I will have to live with it the rest of my life (or a good portion of it) and I'm sensing that everyone has a real relationship with it as well--good and bad. I must note that I have not been banded yet as I have hoops to jump through, but I'm viewing this waiting period like pregnancy with all the mixed emotions that come with it until that glorious day when it finally arrives and you start your life together, learning all the quirks and personality of your little bundle of joy. My process of finding a name came from a thesaurus. I put in 'band' and after that 'belt' and from those I decided on Girdy--like a "girdle", then thought of Girty/Girtrude. But I wasn't quite sure if I wanted to have a girdle the rest of my life. So my next step was the "tool", everyone talks about it being a tool so Mr. Thesaurus and I have collaboratively come up with the name...."GIZMO". :w00t: For us older folk when we hear the name Gizmo we think of Gremlins. Isn't that apropeau for that band? Especially when he's acting up. So Gizmo it is! If you would like to use Girdy/Girty that is fine. It would be neat to know that I'm not the only crazy one here so let us know what you have named yours, or your thought process towards your decision. We would love to help you name it. Spud Mama
  10. Hello, I have not been banded yet, but a few months ago when I started on this site I looked at some of the stories of people struggling and I started to get discouraged about doing this. :tongue2: Then I realized that everyone of them said that they'd do it again in a heart beat. I also did what someone said earlier and that was to weigh the option of being overweight--and all that goes with it (an endless list), or go with the surgery and hope to be a success. :tt2: I also realized that we all need to vent and get support when we are having problems with things but don't always talk about the good, therefore, more is written. But there is alot of good stuff on this site.:w00t: I had to stop looking at the negative stuff but not be ignorant that things happen. Anyway, stop looking at the stuff and read the positive stuff. Hope that gives you something to think about, good luck with your decision. Spud Mama
  11. I am so glad you posted this. I haven't been banded yet but I definitely needed to know this to be prepared. I'm on the max dose of my anti-depressants and I get bad postpartum depression but it helps me and everyone around me if I am prepared for it. Thanx, Spud :rose:
  12. I think that should be on the cover page of all these sites. That was awesome! You're the BOMB! :rose::thumbup: Spud :rose:
  13. I have not been banded yet, but I am a very open person and by being so I have learned alot from other people. I have 3 clients who have been banded and if I wasn't open with them I wouldn't have known and I would never have been able to ask their advice. To me, you are causing your own discomfort by agonizing over it. Sorta like me--my house is OMG!!!! and yet I'm on the computer agonizing over having to clean it while I'm playing on the computer. lol :rose: I know some do the secretive thing but people will not understand if you don't educate them. (Don't get me wrong I know there are cases that ya just wouldn't want to tell them.) Be an ambassador. My opinion. Thanks for Playin! :rose: Spud
  14. Nessa, Nessa, Nessa, Don't you know that as we women get older we never say we are ALMOST a certain age? You might as well say you are 48 and 3/4. LOL. You have come to the right place to learn all you need to know. I recently bought WLS for Dummies and I feel I've already learned everything from here and didn't really need to buy the book (but it's nice to read when my daughter wont let me have the computer). Read and learn and watch out for asking stupid questions. It gets frustrating even for me and I've only been on here a few months, I can only imagine the old-timers. But everyone here is really nice. But stay away from Dan (he has cooties!). But you haven't been banded yet so he might not bite. Take him with a grain of salt--he is very sarcastic and some people can't handle it. I on the other hand have recently been known to lose a job over being sarcastic so I can handle him. Good luck, Spud Mama:thumbup:
  15. Go to the Lap Band Fills forum. You will get all your questions answered there. Good luck. Spud Mama
  16. Way to make new friends Dan!! My opinion is.....on the fence. Most are real nice, BUT yes, some are a little upitty. However, if they have made it too goal--AWESOME!! I might be too if I ever get there. I think we will have earned the right. And I COMPLETELY understand their frustrations with people asking STUPID questions! I haven't been banded yet and I have had to hold my tongue on some posts and not say "DUH!!!" to them. I'm happy to see you got a couple banders to play with you. Do you feel better now? Spud.Mama
  17. I know, have your doc call your surgeon to know exactly what to do and say in his reports, cuz you don't want to get denied cuz he put in there "not trying". Spud
  18. Hey Renee! I saw that no one responded yet so I thot I'd chat with ya. I have not been banded yet, but if you keep searchin you'll find menus on here somewhere. I've seen posts now and then. If I find some later I'll let you know. Good luck! Spud Mama
  19. I haven't been banded yet, but from what I've gathered from this site is when your band is tight its not really recommended to eat that cuz it can get stuck. I just bought that book last night and I have noticed that some things that are different between LB and by-pass they lump together as being for both.
  20. HEY! Nice to talk to someone in Colorado!! I live in Fort Collins and I'm going to Dr Johnell in Greeley. I have Aetna which I've heard is somewhat hard to get them to cover. I tried another place and they were no help to me at all, but the insurance lady in Greeley is wonderful! I don't know what all you have done, but I've heard some insurance places will hold out for a long time just to make sure you are serious. I am so happy with my lady I'd suggest calling her, I'm sure she would help. Dr. Johnell is at North Colorado Medical Center Bariatric Center, Vanessa is the insurance lady. 1-866-569-5926 You can tell her "Ada Potada" suggested you to call. She really is knowledgeable. Hope you don't have to self pay. Good luck at whatever you end up doing. Spud Mama :cursing:
  21. I think someone asked this a week or two ago. I have not been banded yet, but the answer I got from it was because you have to chew so much that you inadvertently do swallow air. Short, sweet, to the point, there ya go. :cursing:
  22. lol. u'd think they could let the air out like we do with zip-lock bags! Ya know, squeeze the air out b4 they stitch 'er up. LOL
  23. Hello! First I love the "smartwentcrazy"!! That is totally me, OK, maybe not, my son says my brain went 'bye-bye'. Maybe that would be a good name for me to use--brainwentbyebye. LOL (as long as I laugh!  ) Anyway! I haven't had the band yet, hoping for May. I just wanted to say that I saw someone on here call her's "Bandy". I thot that was great, I will name mine something. Maybe that will help with the foreign object issue--I feel the same way. Spud Mama
  24. "Holy Farting"!! That's funny! Some questions hardly get any answer, but talk about bodily function and EVERYONE is in!! LOL I haven't had the band, YET! Just starting 3 month multi-dis. But I'm a hairstylist and don't think it would go over too well if I'm farting all the time--might lose a lot of tips on that one. lol
