input please
Hi Frenchvanilla, there are a ton of people on the boards that are successful. In my case, I am considered a slow loser. I have lost 65 lbs in 1 1/2 years. I am 30 lbs from goal. I have great restriction and am quite happy. The only problem I have had is acid reflux. I take Zantac pretty much on a daily basis. That is one of the reasons I am not losing right now because I had to have a slight unfill. I feel good though because with the Holidays all I wanted to do was maintain which is what I've done. I am down 100 lbs from preop though. I lost 40 lbs on my own prior to surgery. The thing I like most about being banded is that I can eat everything, just less of it. The hunger is tolerable as well. Getting fills is really important. It took me 6 months to finally hit my sweet spot. Good luck with your journey.

Several Questions
If I didn't like you so much I would tell you to fuck off. Happy Holidays!

My parents are getting banded
Wheetsin, what you are experiencing is very normal. My heart goes out to you. While my mom was pretty supportive, she mentions now that she always sees me barfing. That is not true. She also mentioned that when I drink alcohol it reacts differently now that I don't eat as much. My mom is obese too. Funny how she has been on Weight Watchers for like 3 years and is still down only 20 lbs or so. Hopefully you and your mom can have a sit down and talk all about how you feel. Good luck.

My first PB
lol., that is too funny. Just think of it this way. Once you do it, it becomes easier. Shucks, I even PB sometimes brushing my teeth!

Had first fill today
Fills are essential. Keep going until you have adequate restriction. Good luck.

Warning: Save your money for goal
Congrats on almost making it to goal. I have probably spent at least $1k on clothes the last 18 months.

Honesty about drinking soft drinks please ?
I drink an occassional Fresca. When you have good restriction the carbonation can bug your stomach, at least for me it does.

Need Adivce
Try and take your wife to an informational session with the surgeon. Those are really helpful.

Do you have a time table for your goal weight?
I really didn't have a # but more a size goal. My goal was to get into an 18. I hit that at my first year mark. My goal now is to hit 16 and I would like to lose 30 more lbs in the next 6 months. That puts me a little over 1 lb per week. I'll be down almost 100 lbs at that time. I am 65% at goal right now. I am considered a slow/average loser. My goal is 185 and I'm 218 right now. Good luck! You can totally lose 100 lbs in a year. You really need to exercise though.

Ate solid foods immediately after fills-feeling no restriction
Its not the solids. Keep going back until you hit your sweet spot. Good luck.

Water, and gulping
I have PBd water before. It does happen. I would take a large sip and wait it out until the next.

Well Hello Onderland...nice to meet you!
That is fantastic news. I have 18 lbs to go to hit onederland. Good job!

to gain or not
Personally speaking I would gain the 13 lbs and say the hell with it. You will lose that the first month being banded. Hope you get the surgery! Julie

What made you do it?
Yes, I was reading a book about "grace". The grace of God, etc. It said in there that if you need help with one area of your life you should seek it. I called my surgeon the next day. It was a sign. I had lost 40 lbs on my own but it had stalled. I had lapband surgery June 6, 2006 and I'm 30 lbs from goal. Good luck to you!

Need Adivce
I use to eat in larger quantities. I would have a 12" subway for example. Now I order a childs size which is probably 3-4". It takes me an hour to eat it all. I eat 1/4-1/2 cup of food at a time. Some bandsters can lose 1-2 lbs a week eating 1 cup of food at a time. You may or may not be one of those people. The band really helps me with my hunger and portion control. I do not exercise and that is why I ony lost 65 lbs in 1 1/2 years. I had lost 40 before surgery so I'm down 100 lbs now. I have 30 more to go. The exercise now starts to be key for me. You will find that you will lose even if you don't exercise in the beginning. Bandsters eat 800-1k calories a day. Some people eat 1200 calories and still lose. I love being banded. It really has improved my life. I no longer binge or feel the urge to eat large portions of food. Good luck with your decision.

Several Questions
Mellie, for me good restriction is when I can only eat 1/4 - 1/2 cup of food. If you are consuming say 1 cup and not losing you need a fill. You should be losing a minimum of 1 lb per week. Good luck.
-
Is it normal for weight to come off this fast?
YOu are doing great. It will probably slow down when you move to mushies or solids. You may actually gain a few lbs as well. I gained 7 between fills. Good luck.
-
First Fill one hour ago!
Congrats on getting your first fill. You will do great once you get the proper restriction. Good luck.
-
Long Term - How much do you eat
With good restriction I can't eat more than 1/4-1/2 cup of food. I supplement with a protein shake in the a.m. When I don't have as good restrictioin its more like 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup of food. I feel satisfied either way.

What's wrong with me?
Mandi, yes with good restriction that is eating like a bandster. Some folks can consume 1200 and still lose but not me. My doctor says 800-1k is customary while banded.
-
i may not need a fill
Truthfully, it is hard to get all your fruits and vegies in. You have to rely more on protein as a bandster. At least that is for me.

Roller Coasters?
I rode after being banded. For you its just a matter of whether or not your port site is tender. If it is I wouldn't ride it. Good luck.
