I had my band for nearly 11 years when I had it removed and converted to bypass in September 2014. I am at goal weight now for the first time in my life. The bypass has been absolutely fantastic for me and sooooo much different and better than the band. I guess it doesn't work for everyone, but overall is much more successful than the band. Good luck. It was a great decision for me!

Just the other day I was recommending this site to someone beginning her WLS journey and in doing so realized how influential this forum has been to me. I do not post often; but I avidly read and take in the experiences of others. I firmly believe that knowledge is power and that my success thus far is because there were very, very few surprises thanks in large part to this forum. During my 6 month supervised diet phase, I educated myself every day about the surgery and the lifestyle changes that had to occur as well as the insurance logistics. My surgery date came and went with no surprises because I had read so many of the accounts of others. When my first stall happened it was no biggie. I read and reread the countless other posts of the exact same thing happening, again, no surprise. My focus now is maintenance and I still come on most days to be inspired and forewarned by the experiences of others who have reached goal and are maintaining. One thing that always helped me was seeing that WLS does work and real people lost real weight. I decided this morning to post before and after pictures not to receive any esteem boosting feedback but rather to encourage others who are beginning their journey or in the middle when the weight seems to be coming off slowly and the negative thoughts start that you will not make it. You will make it and it will so be worth it.

Had my Surgery 6-4-15, best decision ever, don't regret it at all. I had the lapband in 2010 and revised to RNY in 2015.
I only lost 30lbs with Lapband and over the years had issues with the band, I'm so glad I revised to RNY I've lost 58lbs so far and still slowly dropping

Hey everyone. Band to bypass this week (Nov 26th). I just want this band out now! 2 surgeries and it is still not working - leaking, slipped and causing all sorts of problems to my insides. Onwards and upwards come Thurs though. I have heard and been warned that pain at the port area is the worse as they have to kind of dig it out - yuck!!! xx

I have been using Unjury Protein Powder. chocolate is good. After surgery the unflavored is a must to add to your Soups and puddings. No port pain at all. The only thing I have is like it feels like a golf ball in my stomach when I drink Water but assume that's normal. I have heard that elsewhere. I took 2 weeks off but I get paid leave so blessed there. You need at least a week but 2 is better.

Today I hit the 100 pound loss !
    Start weight 256
    Day of surgery 236 (5/12/15)
    Today 156 (11/21/15)
It has certainly been a Rollercoaster. I would 100% do it again... only I would have done it years ago!
I don't have complications, I deal with cravings rather well so far. I'm not worried about the holidays and food.
The Rollercoaster part is hormones and emotions. I'm up and down a lot now. (No I'm not bipolar) I do have a LOT of stress in my life right now..... but the awesome part is.....
My back rarely hurts, I sleep well, I have more energy, I enjoy clothing and getting ready in the morning. .. I feel on the outside how I feel in my mind for the first time.
Best wishes to all wherever you are on your journey!

I am new to the forum and am Post-op day 6 and doing much better than I anticipated! For the most part feel very good. The first couple of days I was VERY dry and had a difficult time getting enough fluids in. Today - I am much improved - still some pain but that has improved as well. I was 9 lbs up from my pre-op weight at discharge from the hospital because they really loaded me with lots of fluids so I wouldn't be dehydrated. So I'm trying not to pay much attention to the scales at this point! I just wanted to wish everyone LOTS of luck and a speedy recovery! I appreciate the opportunity to be a part of this community!

@@Rdy4ANewLife Thank you. I think I am doing good. I was discharged the day after my surgery. Just sipping my fluids and walking a lot. The most pain I feel is when I get up or lay down, but not for too long. Good luck with your surgery! I'm sure you're counting down the days!

@@Sajijoma I'm 3 days days post-opt now. I know all Doctors are different, but have you tried unsweetened Almond Milk? I mix it with my Unjury Protein Shake. It's pretty good and have no issues keeping it down as it is soy and lactose free. I can't wait to get my drain out. It's so gross! It's hard for me not to weigh myself to see how much I am losing too.

There may be times when you don't go for a while. I use stool softeners every day otherwise I am always constipated. Even 14 months post op.

Maraki reacted to Cervidae in Has your Marriage Changed Since Surgery?
I'm not married, but I have been dating the same person for about 4 years. We met online (playing World of Warcraft, funnily enough XD) and I was TERRIFIED to meet him in person for obvious reasons. He was dating me at my highest weight - over 400 pounds, and I've sort of always wondered, in some deep, dark, self-hating place, if he ever felt like he settled for me, or if he just "puts up with" my body because he loves me. Does he ever feel trapped or like it's worth not being attracted to me because of how much we love each other? I think it's really normal for people who have had to deal with the things we have had to deal with the fear these things. It's not easy, socially speaking, to be fat, especially for women. Intimacy can be like this giant monster we must fight every day. Since losing over a hundred pounds and gaining so much confidence, I've come to realize that this person who loves me and has cared for me through thick and thin (hahahah) would simply not be here if he didn't want to be. And when I lose another hundred pounds, if he starts showing more interest or attraction to me, I think I will be happy instead of hurt or offended, because he could have chosen to leave at any time based on my body, but he never did. A year ago, I would have been hurt and offended at the very thought of him being more attracted to my smaller form. But now I feel that while every version of us is still part of who we are, none of those versions define us as human beings. I don't think he's attracted to me when I'm throwing up, for example, but he still loves me and takes care of me because he wants to. In the end, that is what matters. Your body is just a meat suit that houses your soul, and a person who loves you will love all versions of you equally.
