Getting sooooooooo close!
I'm so excited...... today is Sunday and my surgery is Friday! I still get  at myself for being excited over going under the knife. But it is going to be such a change for me. I need this so bad. I'm looking forward to the day that I don't feel that need to eat all the time. Hubby was a food addict. Now, well he almost has to force himself to eat! To me that is amazing to even think of. Almost there!

Hello from Louisville, KY
Hello and welcome to the boards and congratulations on your decision. BOTH of you. My husband and I are doing it together too. He had his 2 weeks ago and mine is next Friday. I see you are in Louisville..... who's your doctor? I know that the one that we use also has an office in Louisville and was just wondering.

BIG Embarassing Moments - Fuel for Success
I love amusement rides. Just call me one big ole kid. Even at my age I still love them. Was at Dollywood a couple years back. They had opened a new rollercoaster. I wanted to ride that thing so bad I could taste it. Stood in line for a LONG time. Got sat down and they couldn't fasten the safety bar down. I had to get off and walk away. IN front of hundreds of people. I still want to cry my eyes out at the embarrasment of it. I'm planning on a reward vacation for myself in May 2010. Dang it I'll ride that one and everything else when I get there this next time!

Off to a good start this morning!
I promise that today I'm going to try to do better on sticking to my pre-op foods. Although it wasn't low carb, I did have a Carnation Instant breakfast - SUGAR FREE. So that's a start. NO sugar, but oh so good. I'd drink those even if I wasn't on this. Love the chocolate taste! Now to go over to FitDay.com and enter every bite that goes into my mouth. And enter that dreaded weight that was on the scales this morning. I'm so glad that nobody in my family knows that number. Not even hubby! I refuse to tell him. Although I'll admit, I'm sure he has a good idea already. I mean face it, he's seen all this blubber. How could he not know! :cursing: Just think.. This time next week I'll be either about to go in the hospital or there already! :cursing:

One More Week!
I'm so excited, scared and every other emotion that you can think of all rolled up into one. One week from tomorrow I have my band surgery. I'll be 3 weeks behind Jim (husband) on his journey. :cursing: I've been reading some other blogs that people have written. I'll admit that I worry that I'll not be able to loose the weight. I know, I know, you are not supposed to judge yourself by other people. I know that. But still I'm so worried. I know what to eat and how much by helping Jim with his. So that won't be a problem. And with it getting warmer I'll be able to get outside and move more. I know, I've got that treadmill sitting in the dining room and I need to use it. Truth known I need to be on it NOW. Well...... my journey is about to begin. I'm not doing really well, on my pre-op diet (low carb) but I sure could do better. I keep trying to convince my stomach that it doesn't need all that food. With the stomach that I have now that is impossible! I'll do my best to do better tomorrow.

Treat for yourself?? Other than FOOD!
I'm hoping that I'm not the only one that for most of my life has used food as a treat for something well done. You know the routine, have another birthday - Go out to dinner! Get a raise - Go out to dinner! Buy new clothes - GO out to dinner! See where this is going????? Anyhow now I've been racking my brain for a really good reward for not only myself but my hubby seeing as how he is a bandster too. My solution is going to serve a two fold reward. Last week we went up to UVA hospital to visit my friend that is the new host to my left kidney (transplant 5 years ago). She had to have surgery back on January 15th. If it could go wrong, it has. In attempt to make a long story short, she had given up and refused treatment and wanted to die. Her hubby called us to drive up and see if we could talk to her. Everyone in her family hadn't been able to reach her at that point, even her father. A deal was made that I plan to honor that is going to be a pleasure to do and surgery/stop smoking for me is going to make it possible. I'm putting the $25 that it would take to buy another carton of Cigarettes every 5 days into a special bank account. Now that fund started on January 5th.! I told Kim that if she would dig down and find the will to fight & live to get out of there that I'd pay for a rental cabin in Pigeon Forge, TN for a week for all of us. A full 7 night stay! I have found the perfect cabin! It's beautiful. Want to see? Go here ..... http://www.cabinfevervacations.com/gatlinburg-pigeon-forge-cabin-rentals/cid/612 That is my idea for our treat. Although it will be a while before we go. The deal I made Kim was to go in May 2010. By that time I should have a fair amount of this blubber gone for good and be able to do some of the things there that I hadn't been able to before! What is your treat to yourself???

Any smokers?
I smoked for 34 years. And most of it I was smoking 2 packs a day! When I talked to my doctors back on Jan. 5, and found out that I had to be smoke free for one month to do the banding and 6 months to do bypass. I said at that moment, " Well then I've already had my last!" I went cold turkey the rest of the day. OMG I thought I was going to die! Had to go up to my PCP the next morning to pick up medical records. When I walked in I announced that I didn't care how long I had to wait that I'd sit there all day BUT I was not going to leave with out a prescription for Chantix! IN 10 minutes I was in the room and in 15 I was out the door with paper in hand. I didn't have any side effects what so ever. Maybe I'm just lucky or something. BUT to me it is a wonderdrug!

Hospital Packing List
I'm a chronic over packer, but when it's my time next month I'm only taking what I have to. I'll wear up regular clothes, jeans and a clean tee, clean undies, socks and my tennis shoes. For the ride home I will ditch the jeans for a HUGE pair of sweat pants, a clean tee shirt and undies and will have my house shoes or some others that I can just slip on and not have to tie. I'll have my personal stuff in the case that it stays in so no problem there. Normally I do all the packing and carry in stuff. Seeing as how it will not be me I'll go light on hubby. We will have to stay the night before in a motel because of the time/distance from here to hospital. That's OK with me. I need a night out from home every now and then.

Calling All MARCH '09 Bandsters - We need a name!
#1. as you can see I've not had mine done yet so I'm no expert. But.... if you will also read and pay attention to how many post there are here that have had little or no trouble what so ever! So have positive thoughts.... I'll admit that I was reading that too a few weeks ago. Heck I was ready to just flat out go with doing a bypass. But this makes more sense. Hang in there. We will all do this together.

Calling All MARCH '09 Bandsters - We need a name!
Lucky Friday the 13th of March here! I've gone over this entire thread and have only found 3 other LUCKY people that are listed as having theirs on such a LUCKY date. El Diablo AmandaS sun and sand I don't know about them, but I'm sure glad to see that the name for the March bandsters was chosen to be "Lucky Loosers"! Especially seeing as how we got such a LUCKY DAY! I can't wait! As of right now I'm not scared, nervous or anything. I figure that if I can survive going through surgery to donate one of my kidneys, darn it I can do ANYTHING!

Favorite "post-band" chain restaurant?
You all don't have any idea how much help this topic has been. Thank you all for all the information. It is sorta like something that I knew in the back of my mind but wasn't sure where to go and what to eat. Again... thanks for all the wonderful information.

Smokers???
My doctor flat out said "Smoke = No surgery!" Needless to say I wanted shed of the blubber worse than I wanted to smoke. So after 34 years of smoking, the day that I heard that I layed them down. That was Jan. 5th this year. Just a few weeks ago. But now I didn't exactly do it cold turkey either. Well I did for about the first 24 hours. I went to my family doctor and got a prescription for "Chantix"! OMG talk about the wonderdrug of the century!:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup: I smoked 2 packs a day for years and years and years. For the last week I've only taken ONE of my Chantix tablets! No cravings.... GO FIGURE! I may start back on the Chantix just before my surgery and for a short while after. Just to hedge my bets about making sure I stay smoke free. I'd rather live smaller and smoke free than be a smoker and look like a beached whale! I'm so glad that I quit.

Who here has been banded the longest?
Who is still here and has been banded the longest? I'm sure that everyone goes into this thinking that they are going to do great, loose what they need/want to and never gain it back. Just wondering how some of the people that are the true pioneers of banding are doing.

3 things you're going to do when you've lost enough wgt (discretion advised)
#1. Make it a point to walk in front of a certain person and then turn around and smile the biggest "crap eat'en" grin you've ever seen in your life and then just walk away. #2. Ride every ride at Dollywood, including the rollercoaster! Heck, that will be first on the list to ride! (I may be old but I'm far from dead!) #3. Buy a really GOOD fitting pair of jeans and wear the heck out of them!:tt1:
