  1. I ditto that. Especially about the long day. Got an email from my advisor, wanting me to come see him and give him an update on my thesis work. The problem is that I haven't actually worked on it since April. Yep, you heard right, APRIL. I'm pretty screwed. And I prefer Sex on the Beach or pina coladas to margaritas. Too sour, for me. And too much of an alcohol taste, for that matter.
  2. I'm really not being patronizing, but I can be, if you want. I'm being rather gentle, more so than I would usually be.
  3. If you want private conversation, take it to PM. Anything said in a public thread is fair game for anyone who wants to reply.
  4. Sweetie, you put it inside her quote, which made it appear that she said it.
  5. I'll have to make that recipe. I got a bag of lentil last night at the grocery store.
  6. Yes, garlic does make everything better! I always have to add garlic or extra garlic to just about everything. You can DEFINITELY smell when I'm cooking. I like meat, just not when I'm cooking for myself. If I cook for my family, I never worry about whether something is cooked enough, for some reason. It it's just for myself, though, I worry. Unless I'm making soup or chili. Then, I don't worry, since it usually cooks forever. I LOVE an excellent filet mignon. My brother's father-in-law is a chef, and we eat at his restaurant in Memphis occasionally (the food's on the house). He mostly does fish and seafood, which I don't eat, but he makes excellent filet mignon. It's top-notch meat, the best he can buy.
  7. We were talking about disliking people that harass us by constantly coming to our doors. In my area, that's Mormons and Southern Baptists. I was explaining that while I dislike the practice, I can like the people. As long as they leave me alone.
  8. See, my fave white carb was bread. When I was in elementary school, I'd literally get just a fruit punch and a plate of rolls for lunch. I physically can't eat that anymore. I can eat potatos and put them down once I'm full, they don't give me the same feeling as bread used to.
  9. I'm making my yummy chili tonight. I use a pound of extra lean ground beef, browned with chopped garlic and onions and drained. Add a big can of tomato sauce, a can of petite diced tomatos, a can of corn, a can of original Rotel, and a packet of McCormick's chili seasoning. Cook on low for a few hours, and voila! Yummy chili. You can add beans for extra protein, but I prefer my chili to be beanless.
  10. Don't get me wrong, I like Mormons. They aren't bad, as long as they leave you alone. My ex-roommate converted to LDS so that she could date her boyfriend, who was also a Mormon. I lived with her for 4 years, until I graduated and they got married. And subsequently divorced, the day before their 1st anniversary, as the case was.
  11. Ditto, again. Except here in Kentucky, it's Mormons and Southern Baptists.
  12. Ditto. I went to church every Sunday for 18 years. I tried to believe, to have faith. I didn't. If I could have chosen to believe, I would have.
  13. Oy. Scientists have no better ability to understand partial sentences than anyone else. And I'll keep my other comment to myself. It probably wouldn't go over well.
  14. Yes, they do work together. But they aren't the same. One is a science, the other is not.
  15. Um, what? I wasn't being facetious to you. I seriously don't understand what you mean by "Holidays espcially easter and the resurrection of christ, jesus walking on Water, etc." That isn't a full sentence, just a list of subjects. I need to know what you are saying about them. What about holidays? What about the resurrection of christ? What about jesus walking on water? It's not belittling your character to ask you to type in a complete sentence. Otherwise, people have no clue what you are talking about. It would be like me saying, "biology, medicine, insects." What about biology, medicine, insects? People cannot read your mind! Again, astrology is not considered a science. It is considered to be a psuedoscience at best. Go as any biologist or physicist or chemist and ask them if astrology is a science. They will, without a doubt, say no. Astrology is divination by the position of stars and moons. Astonomy is the study of matter in outer space. There is a vast difference between the two. One is a science. The other is not. Period. And again, NO, I'm not a "christian scientist." I'm an ATHEIST.
  16. I haven't. I like the originals very much, so I try to stay away from stuff that's likely to tempt me to eat more. :faint:
  17. Astrology isn't a science. Astronomy is. Two very different fields. And I'm still not sure what you are talking about with the statement " Holidays espcially easter and the resurrection of christ ,jesus walking on water, etc." I need a sentence, here.
  18. Those are very yummy. The 100-calorie packs that you can get are good, too. The oreo ones are delish, especially if you are like me and like the chocolate cookie part better than the center.
  19. I usually drink Gatorade if I want something sweet to drink. 50 cals per 8 oz. I buy the powder, so I can mix my own. Sometimes, I water it down a little, because it can still be a little sweet.
  20. Speaking as a scientist, how do you figure?
  21. To add to my last post (because editing is a bitch).... Any group can say the same. Any time someone belongs to a distinct group, whether it's defined by belief, color, ethnicity, etc., that group is categorized as a whole, in many cases, usually to the detriment of most of it's members.
  22. That's a good point. And the same can be said about ANY group, not just Christians. I've seen it about Atheists, Muslims, Hindus, etc. It's not something that is unique to Christians. It may resonate more with you because you belong to that group, but it isn't unique.
  23. I agree completely. There are "fundies" of every creed. I, personally, couldn't care less about what someone believes in, as long as they leave me alone.
  24. I think most loving Christians would be completely shocked by what a person who is open about their Atheism faces. The people that, to them, are a quiet minority (the people who openly hate) are to us a very vocal minority. So, yes, to us they speak the loudest. You can't say "no, that's not true" until you've faced people coming up to you and telling you that you are going to burn in hell, telling your children that they are going to burn in hell, firing you because you aren't Christian, etc., etc., etc.
