  1. Absolutly. She really has no business knowing about what surgery you have. It won't affect your work or ability to work. The band is a tool in weight loss, she no more needs to know that you have a band than she would need to know if you used a treadmill, aerobic, yoga, etc. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and out of ignorance people judge and do or say things hurtfull. You are doing something very positive for your HEALTH. Keep the negative stuff away *HUGS*
  2. When I asked this same question, it was recommended to me that as much time (min. a week) I could get off the better. I was banded on the 23rd of Dec and didn't return to work until January 5th. My boss did let me work from home for 3 days. But I enjoyed the time to rest, recouperate and get to know my band. Besides being at a desk job I would also strongly consider your work atmosphere. My office has been very supportive through the whole process so far. That is my 2 cents worth of advise Good luck and you will find the band is awesome!
  3. I can see it now...on the front page of the Enquirier..... How I used Duck Tape, a paper clip and a straw to lap band myself!!!! <Yet another use for Duct Tape>....who here has seen Idocracy :grouphug:
  4. Wow Pete Way to GO! My NSV is that I'm wearing jeans that were to tight and uncomfortable to wear. People are noticing and telling me that they can really see it and that I look healthier!
  5. B: Instant Grits with Turkey Bacon S: Vanilla Cinnamon IDS Shake L: Turkey Salad, Steamed Carrots, Multi Grain cracker D: TBD
  6. Let's maybe reset it for 260? I'm sure things are going to level out here soon. But then I go for my first fill on the 19th. Really, I've been following instructions pretty to the point. Proteins first. 64 oz + of water a day. I can't stick totally with the 3 meals a day yet. I have a morning snack and afternoon snack, but I make sure they are high in protein. I am trying to get in at least 30 min of good workout a day. I'm sure that after I get past this begining stage things will level off.
  7. I take about 11 pills a day. My multi Vitamin, B Complex and Calcium are pretty big so I have been cutting them up and it takes me the better part of a day to get them all done. I've had no problems with my smaller pills. But I was very concerned about pills and such before I got banded. Nice to know I worried for nothing.
  8. I'm sure everything will go smoothly. Remember to drink drink drink, when they let you. I was so thirsty after surgery. And find some way to walk and move when your not resting. It really helps to move the gas through you. Welcome to the Loser's Bench!!!
  9. Guess I made my goal! I'm at 264 as of yesterday!!! Next time I won't go so conservative, I guess.
  10. I am 2 weeks out and am just now starting to get in over 600 calories a day. I was very worried about my calorie intake until I contacted my Nut and she told me to not count calories so much as: 1 - 60-70 grams of Protein a day 2 - Drink 64+ oz of water/fluid a day 3 - Proteins first 4 - no drinking 30 min prior and 1 hour after a meal If I have a snack to make sure it is high in protein. I've lost alot of weight since surgery and I've been totally amazed. I'm still on soft foods but I've been working in normal foods to my meals. But it does make sense that everyone's experiences will be different and depending on what level of healing or what stage you are (post op, pre fill, post fill, etc) the amount you can eat will vary. What I've started doing is when I feel a bit weak or fuzzy headed I grab a high protein snack or popsicle. So far it is working.
  11. Thank you very much. I'm still in shock on how much I've lost so far.
  12. The scale shows 264 this morning!!!! I knew weight would come off fast at first but I'm really getting floored by this, I want to have my scale checked for calibration. Down 13 lbs!!!!
  13. Looking good! I plan to do pics, measurements and a silouhett each monthly anniversary. The silouhett is pretty funny. I layed down on a large piece of paper and my daughter did my outline (face down and on my side) I was amazed at how large my belly was...
  14. Not sure if I set an aggressive enough goal but here is my info. Surgery date 12/23/08 Heighest weight 304 Current weight 277 my end goal is to be 200 My January Goal is 270
  15. That is totally awesome! I know my shirts are not as tight, but I"m way to early I think to actually drop a size. But I can't wait.
  16. I'd love to be included, if it isn't too late. 17. Mine are doing well. Steri strips are off of 3 of them and I'm rubbing them with a bit of EMU oil (I get this from my vet 100% pure and good for all things having to do with your skin) The strips covering my incision for my port are still there but all in good time I'm sure.
  18. I'm having a hard time with getting my calories past 600 per day. Today I've had: 2tbs vanilla Raspberry SF Protein pudding with morning meds B: scrambled egg with cheese and milk S: 1 shrimp; 1/3 slice of turkey bacon; 2 tsp. chestnut puree L: Burrito Bowl - refried beans; cheese, cauliflower rice (shredded cauliflower steamed) and 2 corn chips grinded to a pulp on top (volume on this is about 1/8 of a cup) S: 2 Tbs Blueberry yogurt (took with pills); 2 pieces of string cheese D: Turkey meatball w/cheese and a bit of bbq sauce; mashed potato S: Protein shake mixed with sf fudgesicle and 1tbs banana
  19. What a great idea! I walked for about 30 min. outside today with my dog. And puttered around the house. I've been either walking outside or on our treadmill since the day after surgery.
  20. Call your doc. But my first response would be to say no because from what I've heard of band slippage you can't get anything down.
  21. I'm 10 days out from surgery. My belly is a bit tender but all is going well. As many have said healing is the big thing right now. Getting your Vitamins, nutrients and Protein play a big roll in your healing. When I was on liquids only I did cheat (kinda) I chewed 1 corn chip till it was mush then fed that mush to my dog, did the same with a small piece of pork roast. Flavor and something to chew was the only thing I was craving. Once I did that (and my dogs loved it) back to my liquids I went. Surgery during the holidays is no walk in the park, but staying focused and calling your doc with concerns or questions is a very good idea.
  22. Thank you both! It is comforting to hear that this isn't an uncommon problem. I'm really working on sticking to the eating guidelines. I've added some Snacks between meals and I got up to 800 calories before any exercise deducted them. Felt much better and didn't get that wiped out feeling from low calories.
  23. Ok, I never thought I would be asking this.... I was banded on Dec. 23rd. I'm on soft foods now and am doing great on hydrating, Protein, Vitamins, etc. I am only averaging about 400 or so calories a day and I'm finding in the afternoon before I eat my lunch I am getting really weak. I really am full between meals and don't want to start any bad habits of grazing etc. But I'm needing to increase my calories so I can function. I really don't want to drink more Protein shakes if I don't have to. Ideas, advice etc is most appreciated.
  24. I was banded on the 23rd of Dec. and on day 4 after surgery I was able to move to full liquids. I definately can tell a difference in how much I can eat or want to eat. For myself I have found if I feel at all weak/dizzy/light headed it is usually because I need a shot of Protein or some Iron. Have you started taking your supplements yet?
  25. I've been belching like a sailor. It actually makes me laugh. I'm hoping it isn't a permanent thing, because yes it could get imbarrasing.
