  1. Great advice, Sue. The drama reminds me of the cruelty children can show when they attack another child for being fat (something I experienced). The sad thing is, these people can't blame it on childhood innocense. They INTENTIONALLY hurt one another.
  2. I knew that the status of my unhealthy life was getting worse and made the decision to seek surgical intervention. For health reasons and existing medical problems, I opted for the least invasive and so far, have no regrets.
  3. He was not referring to this thread. He was referring to your comments about the rants and raves.
  4. You hit the nail on the head... dead center.
  5. Yes, it does get easier after surgery as you gradually move towards solid foods. Most people choose lapband because you don't lose weight via malabsorption like it other weight loss surgeries... no manipulation of the GI tract. It's also a reversible surgery. As for not understanding the posts... avoid the drama and stick with posts that are specific to lapbanding and support.
  6. I take a multi-vitamin, a B-complex, vitamin C, calcium, and folate. If your surgeon works with a nutritionist, give that person a call.
  7. Some people are very sensative to anesthesia and it can take a few days to completely get it out of your system. Taking prescription pain meds can make it worse. There is a new drug called ZOFRAN sub-lingual 4 mg. You take it and put it under your tongue and it dissolves with no bad taste. Your MD could call a Rx in for your wife. If she continues to vomit today... call the surgeon.
  8. YESSSSSSSSSSSS!!! I'm so happy to hear your surgeries were successful and that you're on the road to a healthy life. Make sure you get lots of rest and allow yourself to heal.
  9. Photonut, I think it's very nice that you and others have a friendship with Penni. Many of us have no idea what the bigchick (I think that's the name) incident was about that involved Penni and Lisa or Delarla, etc. However, most of us are not friends with moderators. We don't spend that amount of time on the forum to be able to generate these friendships. We see moderators as peace keepers, diplomats, guides who model the behavior of the mission of the forum. We need to be able to trust them. Penni publically admitted and apologized that she did in fact interact to some degree with this Lisa, Delarla, etc. person for the express purpose of targeting a certain forum member. Based on that confession, some people (check the moderator locked thread for specifics) expressed that they felt Penni should step down as moderator because they lost trust and respect in her. Thus began the "discussion" that led to taking sides that led to Penni's friends "lightening the mood" by the cheese talk. You are correct in your assumption that many new people saw the "invasion of the thread killers" as playing moderator and because it was a group of people, individuals were afraid to "speak up." Since I started this thread (and regret doing so) I want to publically thank you, Dawg, Funny, and everyone else for seeing an alternative (not better) interpretation to the purpose of thread killing. I don't think any of you need to apologize because I KNOW none of you had a hurtful intent and it's nice to see things calming down. Sincerely,
  10. Thank you, you're a very wise lady... and I truly mean that sincerely.
  11. Now that things are dying down, wouldn't it be best not to bring this up?
  12. 503 and Pam, thank you for voicing your opinions.
  13. You're getting adequate protein and it's wise to take the supplements but do you eat any solids? Does your surgeon keep you on a liquid diet for an extended period of time? You're progress is wonderful!

The drama on other threads is too much. I added my name to the end of the list. You're all doing so well. Congratulations.
  15. It's a good thing you picked up that paint brush. You're VERY talented.
  16. WOW! Your weight loss is great... 115 pounds is a whole person. Cngratulations to you!
  17. Perhaps this will help explain it for you. http://www.healthcastle.com/calciumcarbonate-calciumcitrate.shtml
  18. Yes, professional help would help. What was done to you long ago involved a violation of your body and your psyche. By keeping yourself overweight and preventing yourself from getting to goal, you create a safety net of keeping your body safe from the violation you suffered years ago. You're special and you matter and you deserve to work through this so PLEASE take the first step and call a professional.
  19. The discomfort is likely due to two reasons: 1. gas 2. the position you were in lying on a hard surface in the operating room Don't hesitate to take the pain medication the first few days. It helps to keep you moving. Welcome!
  20. I don't live in your area but I wanted to welcome you.
  21. Hi Nathalie, I have severe iron deficiency anemia. It was discovered in 2001 when I had my gallbladder out and I've been on ferrous sulfate 325 mg twice a day since then. During the time since then, my iron levels have waxed and waned but never reached normal. I was banded 5 months ago today and my levels are now so low I am beginning intravenous infusions on Sept. 8. I will have one infusion a week for 8 weeks and then see where my levels are and go from there. I am surprised your MD only told you to take one pill a day. The normal dose is at least two times a day. The reason you take it with vitamin C is to promote absorption of the iron. It's VERY important to NOT take the iron within an hour or two of taking calcium foods because calcium reduces the absorption of iron. I knowthis is very discouraging for you but you seem to already be looking on the bright side. Two months from now you're iron levels will be nice and high.
  22. 1. Do you feel the LB once it has been 'installed'? I mean, besides not being able to eat much, can you actually sense it there all the time? The port incision was the most sore for the longest amount of time but no, I don't know it's there if I am not eating. 2. Can you feel the portal under the skin? Yes, it's a round, hard texture that can be palpated with your fingers. 3. Do any of the above stop you from doing any physical activities? My surgeon advised no heavy lifting for 6 weeks and then no restrictions. 4. How do you cope mentally/emotionally with the changes? I know for a fact that I will have to work hard at changing my relationship with food: no more comfort eating, a complete life change. Don't look at the "big picture." Instead, make small changes and before you know it, you'll be living a more healthy lifestyle. Best of luck to you and feel free to ask any questions as they arise.
  23. That was GREAT! I hope you treated your wife to a night out once you felt better and the black eye subsided.
  24. The Good (GREAT): The improvement in my health and activity levels. The Bad: Eating too fast or not chewing enough and suffering the consequences. The fill process and being patient until restriction is felt and maintained. The Ugly: I haven't told anyone but 2 close friends so I can't answer this part.
  25. One ounce of food 3 times a day doesn't seem like it's enough to meet your nutritional requirements. Can you schedule a meeting with the nutritionist to go over your food plan? Best of luck on fill #2.
