Thanks for your replies - I really appreciate them. My first fill was 3 cc's...it was done under flouro. I think I am going to call and ask to put more in. Does anyone know what this lump is?

Banded on 10/21. Had my first fill yesterday 11/17 and had liquids for the first 24 hours. Well my first meal I was able to eat a grilled cheese sandwich and I felt okay. Towards the end I did notice a lump type feeling in my throat so I stopped (there was like maybe a couple of bites left)....do I need a refill? I know I am not supposed to have bread but was curious about how I would react. I am petrified that this isn't going to work for me. Thank you for any input/suggestions!

If you want an excuse w/out telling them about the surgery, tell them you are on antibiotics...Flagyl is one antibiotic that specifically says no drinking. Let us know what you decide.

Hi- Congrats on the loss! I have not had a fill or do not know the size of my band so can't answer that question. As for your exhaustion - you might want to check your iron levels...you maybe anemic. Are you taking a multivitamin w/iron?

Hi - Banded on 10/21 - everything has gone well. I am at the blended/pureed stage and falling the rules. Tonight I pureed beef broccoli and had about 3/4 cup pre puree. I feel like there is something stuck in my throat. I have had Water and nothing. It is not painful nor do I feel like vomiting. Is this band related? Any feedback would be so appreciated! Thanks!

Very normal to be in pain. You will feel substantially better in a couple of days.

I would just pack your protein shakes and take those. At the restaurant I would just stick to iced tea. Good luck and have fun!

Some dr.'s require that you lose weight prior to the surgery. Dr. Horgan from UCSD will put you on a pre-op fast for a few reasons: 1) it will shrink your liver 2) you become aware of what the diet will be like post op and 3) to see if you can commit to the program. HTH!

Hi - I was banded on 10/21 by Dr. Horgan. I had a 32 BMI and lost 10 lbs prior to surgery. The day of the surgery, they will weigh you with their portable scale. I asked if they actually will cancel surgery if a patient doesn't lose enough weight prior and they do!! I think if you follow the fast your liver will shrink enough to perform the surgery safely. Hi - Had my surgery 10/21 - am feeling great with the exception of my port. It is very sensitive and seems swollen...is this normal? Anyone else have this feeling??? I am paranoid about something going wrong...I am very active with two kids under two and try to watch myself but it is tough. TIA

Hi - I recommend you go and try on some new clothes! You will be surprised at what fits!!! While you think your current clothes fit, they probably look way too big for you! Congrats on your weight loss!

SoCalFosh: LOL!!! I was originally scheduled for the 8:30 slot but they called me the day before and said they had to add someone and I would be at 10! I agree w/the friend thing...as long as Dr.'s are competent I don't care if they want to be chatty with me! How are you feeling? I am feeling tons better today - have been able to drink more. Do you have a follow up with them tomorrow (10/27)? I do at 1:45...I hope I don't have to wait very long. What part of SD do you live in?

Hi - I met Dr. Horgan once prior to surgery for a quick visit. My BMI is low 32 and he wanted to make sure I was really wanting this. He also came by the morning of the surgery for about 5 minutes. I did a lot of research on him so know he is good but do agree that it might have been nice if we would have come by post surgery in the recovery room. I was very surprised that he didn't...if I hadn't been in pain, I probably would have been seriously annoyed! What time was your scheduled surgery? Mine was at 10 am but didn't go in till 11:30ish and was out 20 minutes later. Talk to you soon!

I was banded on 10/21 and would be surprised if I get in more than 200 calories. I only sip very little and up until today was on clear liquids. I might hit 300 today - with a cream soup!

SoCalfosh: Where did you get banded? I was at UCSD w/Dr. Horgan. I too am feeling better today. I am the opposite of you - I felt sick w/the popsicle and better w/the broth. I guess everyone is just different.

Snow White: Thanks! Wow - you have done great! Have you experienced hunger? I think that was what I felt last night and ignored it and went to sleep...this morning I slowly sipped on a Protein drink (my first) and felt better. Are you still sore? BTW - are you in San Diego County??

Hi - I typed a nice post and was eaten up...UGHH! Oh well - this is brief of what I wrote! Was banded on Tuesday, 10/21. Feeling much better today. Have a few questions: - I have this strange feeling when I swallow that there is a huge lump in my throat - what is it? I was on Clear liquids till today and have only had a Pure Protein shake (which I didn't finish) and a SF pudding...so don't think I over did it. - How do you know when your "full"? I only sip until I feel satisfied but as I mentioned it was only propel, broth until today. - I kinda feel hungry and my stomach growls....did any of you feel this? - How much did you drink post-op? TIA - and apologize for the lame questions!

Happy Birthday Heather! I too am from SD and am getting banded 10/21 at UCSD. I totally understand the cheerleader thing...I am scared of messing up. Are you on any kind of fast?

Hi - I have always been overweight so can't relate with you on that one. I have had success w/some diets but then gain it back and some. I have my surgery date on October 21...so I am about a week after you! My BMI is 33 and would love for once in my life to be a normal healthy bmi. Do you have to fast? If so, for how long?

Hi - I am from San Diego and had my consultation yesterday (Wed) and rec'd my date today - Oct. 21!!! That is only 3 weeks away! Next week I go to have a few tests. I will be on a two week fast. I am so excited and nervous. I will have my surgery at UCSD w/Dr. Horgan. I met there staff and they seemed very nice and supportive. Has anyone used them? TIA

Hi - I am new here and am happy to have found this site. I have been overweight my entire life and done it all! 95% of the diets failed and the 5% that didn't I struggled to keep the weight off. My BMI is 33 and have found a surgeon who performs at this BMI. I have my consult next Wed. and since I am paying cash understand that it can happen much sooner. I look forward to be active and learning all that I can!
