Optifast Ideas
Wow Camikat you only have to drink 3 a day:closedeyes:, i had to do 5 a day and there was no cups of veggies...lol Although they did give me 3 different flavors and to me none of them was that bad. Choc. is my least favorite and that's the one i still have some left of. I'm surprised you did'nt have a choice of the flavors:glare: but i have heard of people adding flavor to them or like they say adding coffee to the drink. purhaps if you drink it fast you won't be able to savor the taste:drool:. hang in there it'll be over as fast as it started ! Dr.Ernest C. Letter from Primary care Physican?
hello Jennifer, it seems like this is the letter that the insurance company wants from your primary just to say that they back or approve of the type of surgery you are trying to get and that you will be a good candidate, they always add the medical terms if you have a condition like Diabetes. The insurance company also wants to know if you have been seen by a primary care for over the years and will want to see that weight and height history(sometimes 5 yrs back). And all the different types of diets you have tried and how much you have lost/gained from each of them. It's one of the two depending on what the insurance requires for approval. The Psychiatric Eval is something you have to get done for approval also. when i went to my Consult or Orientation with the surgeon he had a list of Dr. to go through for the Eval and once you are done with the (very long) test:cursing: they will either give you a paper of your results or give it to your surgeon to give to the insurance company. I really don't recall but i do know that my surgeon's office collected all my paperwork (i had everything fax to them)and then once they had everything they submit it all to the insuracne company. Anyone cheat on preop diet?
i was just banded about two weeks ago and actually i started a thread with the same question. my 2 weeks pre-op liquid diet was pretty much Optifast and Clear liquids, no meat, none of that 1 meal a day stuff and i almost lost my mind. my body went into shock probably on the 2nd day and by the 3rd and 4th i did cheat with a boiled egg one day and a piece of cheese bread the other. i was also worried about if i had did something wrong, and did read RestlessMonkey's story and it got me back on the straight and narrow..lol i did call my Dr. office and asked if i could have a boiled egg, being that it is full of Protein and have some type of ingredient that will keep your hair from falling out ! anyhow my surgery went well, i am fine and although i don't advise it i do understand how it is ! How long did you have gas after surgery?
Hello Sooverit, Congrads on your up and coming Journey. you will find that everyone is different, so i can only speak as for myself. i went out and bought the disolve Gas-X strips and Liquid Tylenol to be prepared for what everyone was saying they had experienced. But all in all my gas pains only lasted about 4 days after surgery and although they were uncomfortable at first, everything gets better and easier as the days past. i did'nt need the pain meds and the gas-x strips did'nt really work. The only thing you can really do is walk, walk, walk, walk(you'll hear that alot). good luck and i hope that helps Dr. Ernest C. Rehnke Plams Of Pasadena St.petersburg, Fl.

Is it really worth it?? Please helpp
Hello All i was banded Oct.24th and i first would like to say that Jack said it best :cursing:. for me them trying to place an IV was more painful :ohmy:than the soreness i feel now. i was so ready to be on the other side of pre-op until i wasn't nervous like i thought i would be. i had love ones there with me the entire time, i brought my MP3 player and listened to music and remained calm the entire time. everyone is different but for me it's worth it and very necessary being a type 2 diabetic who can't take pills or lose the weight and keep it off. knowing i have the tool to get the weight off and keep it off and don't have to worry about going up and down is worth it to me! yes i was in pain after surgery and yes it was an experience being that i had never had surgery before. but i'd rather go through that than dialysis from being a diabetic, it doesn't get better with that ! i've lost a total of 22lbs in 3 weeks from the pre-op and post-op liquid diet, i'm still sore but everyday it gets better. i'm not sure i would be able to say that if i had not done this ! P.s I Requested The DVD from my actual surgery and it's Priceless ! Dr.Ernest C. Rehnke Palms Of Pasadena St.Petersburg, Fl. 279/ 268/257

6 days post surgey - and a new problem - please help!
hello kritzz, i'm pretty much right where you are being 7days post -op. im not in too much pain at the port site but i do feel it when i sit or stand. it does'nt bother me anymore to cough, but when i sneezed it almost killed me:bored::cursing:. sometimes even when i'm laying completley still i feel tenderness. and yes that tight feeling also like a weight is hanging..lol it's weird but nomal and i think it can last up to about 6 weeks post-op. i was told because that's where they had to cut and inplant the port . I don't have the gas pains too much anymore either, i'm able to burp more and that's a huge relief. but yes i've had that feeling the entire time now. Dr.Ernest C. Rehnke Palms Of Pasadena St.Petersburg,Fl.

hello babyface33, i was banded oct.24th and yes it's normal. your stomach is still swollen so you probably won't feel the hunger feeling until your 3rd week post-op or so. They just want you to stay hydrated right now. it's also normal to feel sore at your port site for about 6 weeks post op. you seem to be moving right along Dr. Ernest C. Any October Bandsters!??!?!
Thank you Ruby124 other than being sore i'm doing pretty good. sorry it took so long to reply, right now for me it's figuring out the rubles and growling like feeling in my stomach. i did'nt think you felt hunger pains until the swelling goes down ? i think i'm mistaking it for gas ? gas-x is not helping me out, walking does a little but my pains are not bad. my stomach does feel tight and full so it's hard to sip down a gallon a day. i just try to stay hydrated , never thought i would look forward to moving on to mushies...lol and yes you can get a dvd of your surgery, my surgery was done @ Palms Of Pasadena and they record every surgery but will not give them to you unless you request it before hand. they use to give them to everyone but said a patient took it home and thought it was a info dvd and had the shock of her life..lol so yeah they only give them out on request. and being the nosey, sentimental person i am i wanted a copy of mine.

What is next?
i was'nt required to do a sleep study but yes that is done in your pre-op testing unless your insurance needs that to make the decision on if you're approved or not. it is alot to take in and it is a process, i just don't want you to get over whelmed too fast..lol you still have a little ways to go. but i was like that and just wanted to know the order and make sure i had or did everything i needed to do.
-
What is next?
first take a deep breath:blink:, and let it out. everybody's case is different depending on the insurance you have. for me it was a waiting game and need additional info game. some go by smoother and faster than others. it took me a little longer to pay my fees so.. but mine went as followed: 1. Seminar (Jan.08) 2. Paperwork Gathered (History from PC) (Feb.08) 3. Consultation (March08) 4. Psych. Eval (March08) 5. 6mon. Nutrionist (started in Jan.-June) 6. Approval ( Aug08) 7. Date Set and pay fees (Aug) 08) 8. Pre-Op testing (2weeks before date) ( Oct08) 9. 2 week Pre-Op Diet (2weeks before) (Oct 08) 10. Sign Consent Forms (day before) (Oct 08) 11. and last but not least surgery is Friday. Oct.24th so be patient it'll all work out, i did call my insurance company every two weeks after they had all my paper work to see where they were at with it.

Dizzy on Pre-Op Diet
not sure i think it's going to effect everyone differently, but it is a thread on here some where that is titled "passing out on Liquid diet" or something like that, where someone else has suffered that also. if you feel it's not right please call your dr. i know it kind of make you feel better when you know the same thing has happen to someone else. i'm not sure how much i have lost, i'm tooo afraid to look..lol but i know it's something because my clothes have a little more room. i also started going back to the gym to make sure i lose something.

Dizzy on Pre-Op Diet
hello gracie78, i'm right with you on the liquid diet and being dizzy. i'm on week 2 of the diet and although it was ruff from day 1 it does get better as it go along. I'm on Optifast and it came with a sheet of all the side affects. --you should chew 5 sticks of gum a day (extra) --massage your gums --get up from sitting or laying positions slowly --your skin will be extra dry -- hair brittle and may shed -- and last but not least you will have headaches or get dizzy. it's from your body not having the carbs, sugar, etc that it use to have and at the amounts it use to have. i felt as if my body was in shock day 1-5. good luck and hang in there:thumbup:

Has Anyone Cheated On The Pre-Op Liquid Diet ?
thanks everyone for being honest with me, and i appreciate you sharing your stories with me. this is Pre-Op not post-op so i have'nt been banded yet ! i understand and know what to expect afterwards, it's just getting through this before hand. and i do realize that this is getting in practice for what's coming next. thank you PrtyAntovryt that was important to know because when i DID cheat i did want to do the least amount of damage to how far i may have come. Restless Monkey-- WOW,WOW,WOW,WOW:scared2::mellow::tt2: I REALLY WOULD HAVE WENT CRAZY COMING TO AFTER SURGERY AND NO BAND! SO THEY BASICALLY HAD TO CUT BACK INTO YOUR PRIOR INCISIONS ???:cool2::thumbup:. I MUST SAY WITH THAT BEING SAID I AM ON THE STRAIGHT AND NARROW PATH AND NO MORE COMMENTS ARE NEEDED...LOL:sleep: AND I FELT GUILTY FOR A CAN OF SOUP..WOW ! WELL I'M GLAD EVERYTHING HAS WORKED OUT FOR YOU IN THE END AND THANK YOU AGAIN, YOUR STORY DID IT FOR ME !!! and last but not least SEASIDE--- you do have to go through out the entire forum, it is so much info on here that will match where ever you are in the process. they also have the support group forums at the bottom of the main page (i believe) and it's for men, women, age groups and even go by the state you are in. so yes please look around before you give up on it ! SLIM N TN --- no problem we are all here to help each other get through this. okay now last thing, there is thread where you only put up before and atfer pic. i click around on here so much until i can't remember how i got to it...lol THAT IS THE BEST THREAD EVER and has been sooooooo inspiring and motivating to me.

Has Anyone Cheated On The Pre-Op Liquid Diet ?
Hello all i'm on day 5 of my pre-op liquid diet:thumbup:, my surgery is next Friday Oct.24th:thumbup:. The Optifast is not bad at all and i like all the flavors, i have Jello, Water, crystal light, and sugar free icepops. not too found of chicken brooth:closedeyes:. i've can along way from day 1 that left me sick and although it's getting better as the days go along , i did cheat and had a small can of chicken noodle soup:drool:. i felt like that would do the least damage and would be better than a heavy meal. I JUST WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF ANYONE ELSE CHEATED A LITTLE BIT ?? AND IF SO WITH WHAT???? Dr.Ernest Rehnke Palms Of Pasadena St.petersburg, Fl.

Any October Bandsters!??!?!
white people do keloid also i just think it's more common among AA people. i had one took off maybe 10yrs ago, that went well and did'nt grow back. i got another one from my hair dresser accidently pulled my ear ring out with the comb. but the flip side of that is that i have piercings and they are fine. i also hear that you can have the Dr. to inject your cuts with steriods and they will heal up and not grow there. Question .. has anyone asked for pictures of the inside of their stomach before and after the band ? i think it'll be a great motivation tool to place on the frig.or maybe that's just my weird self..lol !. okay all my pre-op testing i got done this morning and i pick up my pre-op diet on friday. and thanks to all the advise and support from the site i have already purchased liquid tylenol, gas-x strips, sugar free popsickles, etc. i'm getting my gear ready !

Any October Bandsters!??!?!
i think for me it's about a life style change along with droppin those bad eating habits. so this type of restriction is going to be perfect for me. i saw some before and after pics on here that has both inspired me and made me a true believer. i think we'll do just fine:wub:
