stupid insruance... now im sad
I was in the same boat about 2 yrs ago. My insurance wouldn't cover me, didn't find that out until I tried to go for my sleep test. And I couldn't get financed and couldn't afford it. I was soooo sad! So I just prayed about it, and put it on the back burner. In the meantime I worked on my credit score, got a couples raises at work... Year and a half later I got focused and looked high and low for the right surgeon, the right price, and the right financing. And thank goodness I finally I had my surgery! I guess I'm saying HANG IN THERE! You never know when things might turn around and it could happen for you. Don't give up if it's really what you want!! Good luck to you!

how to move forward without insurance
I also used surgeryloans.com for part of mine and the other part I went through care credit. My surgeon required payment in full one week in advance. It was really easy and I'm so glad I did it

Lifting restrictions and surgeon not at appt....
The physicians assistant does my fills. I've only seen the surgeon once since surgery and i'll see him again jan.30 for another checkup. I'm not sure about the weight restrictions tho... But if your uncomfortable with the nurse or whoever, I would request the surgeon also

Can you take birth control pills?
You shouldn't have any problems with pills unless they're really really big! I take all my vitamins and medications with no problem. As long as it's one at a time.

Optifast and tooth pain
Man, I'm so sorry! That sounds horrible! I never had that happen! I loved the Optifast, especially the chocolate. The only thing I could recomend if orajel isn't working are cough drops called Cepacol. They have a small amount of some kind of anesthia in them, they are awesome! Makes your mouth and throat feel a little numb. The taste isn't great, but they've helped me.

Who have you told about your surgery? Why?
I told my husband first, because he would be paying for it! lol. I didn't tell anyone else until I had my surgery date. And then I only told my aunt who was having the surgery also and my mom and my BFF. that's it. Honestly I was very embaressed that my life had become so out of control that I had to have weight loss surgery. So I didn't want anyone to know. But after a month or so after the surgery, I did feel comfortable telling more family members and a couple friends. But to this day alot of people in my life do not know... the embaressment has gone away but I still want to keep it private just so I don't feel like they're all watching and waiting on every pound I lose! ha

overeating episode and still paying for it?
Oh yeah, the first day when I could eat solid foods I over did it. I felt sooooo aweful. Couldn't sleep that night. I did the same as you, the next day I did shakes and soft foods. On about the 3rd day I did start to feel better. Needless to say I never did that again! I would just keep doing what you're doing, stick with liquids and soft foods and I'm sure you'll feel better soon. But if not I would check with doc. Good luck!

Intro
I also thought quitting cokes would be a hard thing for me. But it was not that bad! I haven't had pop in 4 months. I never keep it in the house so it's easy to turn to water and sugar free lemonade is my new fav. I still crave bread and sweets, especially ice cream!! ha. But with the band I've learned some things are ok it's just I can only have them in moderation and you'll prob feel that way once you get some restriction going. Good luck with everything!

Was this all a big waste of time...?
I agree with all of you, please don't be so impatient. I had surgery in Aug and I've only lost 22 lbs. I have 7cc's in my band now and am just starting to feel some restriction. You have to give it time. But I understand where you are coming from, I expected more too when I first got my band. But this website and talking to others has helped me understand the fills are what make the difference. Hang in there and so sorry for your loss.

how many cc's till you're good?
I've heard people have different number of fills, some have 1 fill and are good while others need 6 or 7. My question is for those out there who have hit their "sweet spot", how many cc's did you have when you got there? I've had 5 fills and I'm at 7cc now, I have a 10 cc band. I had surgery 4 months ago and I still feel like I eat too much. The last 2 times I've gone for a fill my doctor has acted suprised that I'm not having more restriction. So of course this makes me nervous. If anyone has any words of wisdom that would be great! Thanks

someone please help
I was banded on 8/25 and I've lost 18lbs. I have my bad days and good days just like you! Do not get down on yourself. If you have a bad night and eat something aweful, just start over in the morning and try to do better. You're only human. Good luck with everything! There are others right there with ya, you are not alone!

banded 8/27/08
I had my first fill this past Monday, I'm at 4cc now! I can tell I do have to put more effort in chewing and eating slow. Feels a little sluggish going down. But no major restriction. I do have exciting news tho... I lost 2 more lbs finally! So that is 18 total! That might not be too exciting for some people, but I had been going back and forth between losing 16 and 14lbs for the past 3 wks! I think the fill got me over the hump. I feel like I'm back on track now. I can go back for another fill in 2wks, which I probably will. Hope everyone else is doing great!

Confused
If you are not comfortable with bypass, by all means find another doctor and get a second opinion. Personally the bypass scared me, I felt more comfortable with my decision to get the band. Good luck

2 weeks post op, do I have a band??
You are completely normal. I feel the same way. I just got my first fill yesterday. I'm on liquids so can't really tell if I have any restriction yet. We'll see... Good luck!

banded 8/27/08
Hey! I've only lost 16lbs! Been there for 2wks, stuck. It's better than nothing, I know. But I understand the frustration. I hope your fills get you on the right track. I go for my first fill on the 6th. Crossing my fingers for some restriction! Good luck!

Anybody's spouse an "eating buddy"?
I completely understand. I've gained 25lbs since I got married, that was just in May! We love to eat together. But since being banded he's been very supportive. Getting me fat free pudding, weight watchers ice cream, going walking with me... I think it's encouraged him to help me and help himself. At the same time I don't want to penalize him because I had surgery. So we compromise. I still make a good dinner for him, I just eat on a way smaller plate and we still get to enjoy food together.

Eating after Surgery Question
i started eating regular food after 2wks. first week liquids only, second week was protein shakes, mashed potatoes, pudding....etc. And then I started regular food. I did fine. Just be sure and chew very well and I think you'll be fine. Good luck!

Hi Yall, one more Texan here!!
No regrets yet. But I've only been banded a month. I wish I was feeling restriction tho. I didn't know that I wouldn't feel restriction until I started on my fills. Guess I didn't ask enough questions. But so far so good!
