The positive statements made make me feel I can do this. I am still just going through the qualifying and pre-op stage. I don't even have a date for the surgery yet. I AM trying to adapt my eating habits to what I will have to do during pre-op. I'm sort of practicing. No weight loss yet just up and down 5 pounds or so. I just bought my Vitamins, and a few other things, so I'm getting serious. No, I AM serious! I'm committed to do this and make it work. Reading these comments shows me it isn't easy but it is worth the work. Thank you all.

you've lost more than I did at that point, and I started out much heavier than you.
there are many factors that determine your rate of weight loss, most of which you have little to no control over - age, gender, starting BMI, genetics, metabolic rate, how muscular you are, if and how much weight you lost prior to surgery, etc. The only two things you have a lot of control over are how closely you stick to your plan and how active you are. If you do well with those, you WILL lose the weight, whether fast or slow.
I was a slow loser throughout my entire journey, and I ended up losing 100% of my excess weight, over 200 lbs.
honestly, except for people the size of those on "My 600 lb Life", most of us lose somewhere in the 15-25 lb range the first month after surgery. Since you've lost 20 lbs in six weeks, you were likely in that range at the end of month #1. You'll always find some who lose above or below that range, but they're outliers. Your amount of loss is completely normal (and also, men tend to lose faster than women - hence, your husband...)

I'm already annoyed and sick of it lol I'm HUNGRY!!! And I'm already tired of drinking everything. I want actual food. BUT.... I know this is for the greater good. It's only for a week, and the first 3 days are always the worst. Thank goodness this is for my revision, so I already know what to expect with this since I've done it before. Just not having ANY fun with it. At all. Nope. Already ready to be done lol

Hello and welcome! Your surgery day is coming soon. I envy you, actually. My date is July 27th. Looking forward to connecting with you! I also have some physical limitations and it's my health issues that motivated me to the sleeve. I was on the fence for a while on which surgery to have, but I settled on this one so far. Keep us posted on how you're doing. You CAN do this. You deserve to do this. You and I (and others) will be returning here in weeks and months to come to declare how happy we are we followed through. You got this! 🙌

I regretted the surgery HARD at where you are. I was miserable. Now, I'd do it again in a heartbeat even remembering the misery.
The only way out is through. Stay strong, stay the course, know that other people have experienced exactly what you are now and you are not alone. I know it's maybe one of the most difficult things you've ever done (it was for me).
It's going to be OK. You'll get through this.

General anasthesia is rather miraculous. They have you count down from 10 to 1, and before you get to 1 you are completely knocked out. Next thing you know, they're wheeling you out of the operating room. You have absolutely no memory of what has happened for the past 90 minutes or so.
You're right. Among the things to worry about, the anesthesia is among the least of your worries.

Like @catwoman7, probably about 2 years post-op after I hit goal.
Generally only on vacations or special occasions, which is about the only time I'm willing to stray from plan a little.
To be fair, drinking is not something I do much socially mostly because I don't do much socializing.
    Be cautious of addiction transfer.
    Good luck,

I thought they were kidding when they told me they have a discount card for me. It's an actual card that says I'm a bariatric surgery patient ,and as a result of having a small stomach,I can only eat small quantities. Please let her adjust her portions and price it accordingly . We haven't gone out to eat in over 10 years , but I think I'd feel silly using it !
    Have you gotten one ?

Sorry if this topic was already discussed, this is my first post here I had my surgery on May 22, it went great except for the first 13 days - I had the most horrible diarrhea I've ever had in my life. That's done (whew) but I'm so tired , I just drag myself around every day. I'm 69 YO . I was never really active except for short walks ,but now everything exhausts me. I was wondering if this goes away as time goes by . I'm at the purreed stage of my diet and I'm wondering if eating so little has anything to do with it. You can see, I'm full of questions LOL . Any experiences to share ? Thank you so much ...Kathy

NettyD reacted to BillOh in Happy 64th to me!
Happy birthday to me! My 64th and one year until retirement! The email from this forum reminded me I haven't been here in awhile. I was 275 when I had my lap band back in May of 2009. I got down to my goal weight of 195 by the end of that year. A few times I've slipped back and went close to 240. The band, which I guess they don't do anymore, has been a great tool, but diet and exercise sure played a big part. In 2011 I ran my first of 7 marathons, had to give that up after back surgery in 2014 and I've taken to cycling, which almost killed me in 2020. (But hey the lady that hit me ended up buying me a new camper to use in retirement :) )
I definitely learned I was a stress eater and just knowing that helped. In 2020 because of covid my work moved to home, and I've been in my basement most of the last 3 years. Not going out to lunch everyday helped and adding 1-2 hours back to my day I was able to get out more. Today on my 64th, 14 years after the surgery I'm still at my goal weight of 195, but over the winters I've snuck up to 205-210 a couple of times, but hoping in retirement (huge stress relief) I can get outside and do things to keep me away from food and snack more often. Just came back from a busy one week vacation where I lost 5 pounds because we were out doing things!

Oddly enough, my doctor isn't requiring a pre-op diet, only that I do clear liquid diet the day before surgery. I am trying to have a farewell party to my favorites and say goodbye to them forever lol

NettyD reacted to FlowerGirl44 in How long from first doctor visit to surgery?
I don't have a surgery date yet but thought I would share what my requirements were. I had to have 3 consecutive PCP visits for medically supervised weight loss attempt. 1 nutritionist and 1 psych visit. Smoke/nicotine free for 2 months, EKG, Chest x-ray, and an endoscopy (so he could look at my hiatal hernia). This was all required before it could be submitted for insurance approval. Turn around on insurance approval is around a week or so. I am going to the beach mid July, so I am hoping for an August surgery date (fingers crossed!).

I am three weeks post-op and I took five days off. I wish I had taken seven or eight days instead. Day six was the most difficult for me (I think I swallowed air) and I could have used a few more days of rest after being off pain medication.

Hi I’m new and having gs in July or August. Does anyone know what Vitamins are best and if they offer a bundle deal ? I’m worried about nausea when taking them. I have to have an endoscopy and two more doctors appointments before he can schedule my appointment but we’re looking towards July or beginning of August. Good luck to everyone and nice to meet you. Any information that you think is helpful. Please message me.

As someone with a corporate desk job, this is definitely a concern of mine. I have heard opposing stories, some feel ready to go back to work a week post op and others take 6-8 weeks and still struggle. I am currently talking with my team, but plan to take 6-8 weeks STD/FMLA just to account for any complications or struggles. I don't want my job performance to suffer. Hope for the best, but plan for the worst is what everyone has been telling me. Hope that helps

Wanted to create a dedicated thread as I don't see a lot of posts about Maimonides in NY.

I have my first consultation with the bariatric physician's assistant and a nutritionist as well as a virtual consult with the surgeons on July 12th. They sent me a welcome packet that stated which steps their clinic requires for surgery. The steps are to schedule a 2-in-1 appointment with the PA and nutritionist, An endoscopy, blood work, and a psych consult and they do provide someone if you don't have your own. and cardiology/pulmonary evaluations which are an EKG and sleep study. I have pre-scheduled everything but the psych eval. Prior to the surgery, they also request that you get clearance from your PCP, so I would make that appointment as well.

I will update this thread as I go through the process for others to reference.

Metroplus basically told me they don't have requirements as long as your BMI is over 40 or 35 with sleep apnea, diabetes, or high blood pressure.
