  1. Thanks everyone for the replies. It helps to know that this is normal. I didn't know if I was doing something wrong. Thanks!
  2. :smile2: I thought the same thing!
  3. I simply wish that I had dealt with my food issues before banding. I am seeing a therapist now. If you can, go ahead and see someone now to deal with you food addictions. That way, once banded, you can concentrate on just being banded. I am trying to learn new habits for band eating while trying to learn new habits for dealing with food all together.
  4. Hi, I am in Tennessee also. You have come to a great place for information. I also have PCOS and insulin resistance. I haven't taken any medicine for it since the day before my surgery. It has already helped there. I hope that you find all of the information that you want or need to help you make your decision. Good luck on your journey!:smile2:
  5. I have a hard time with it myself. I have tried it before banding but was unable to keep up with it. I am hoping that now that bread and such may be a problem, I can get back into it. I am taking it one step at a time.
  6. Thank you for posting that recipe! I have just started eating Greek yogurt, but found the cost very high. I have been buying Chobani fat free Greek yogurt. It is very tasty, but at $1.59 for that small tub, it is too high to have often. I will be making some for myself this week!:smile2:
  7. Does it come out sweet enough, or do you still have to add spenda or some other sweetner to it?
  8. I would think that your carbs are going to come from the spinach and possibly the onion. Check the carb count for the spinach and divide it by 5 for the entire recipe. I looked at atkins website and it said 1/2 cup onion is 2.8 net carbs.
  9. I just had my first appointment with a counselor (that only deals with eating disorders) to deal with my food issues. She pointed out that our food addictions are just as bad as any other addictions. The difference is, we have to have food to survive. Until you are able to walk past a coke without picking it up, it would be in your best interest to not have any in the home. That way, you won't have the temptation of seeing them. Also, as someone else mentioned, the thought of hurting my band made it easier to give up the sodas. I haven't had a soda since my seminar back in August. It was hard, but after a few days, it got easier. My doctor says no sodas for at least a year, and if he has his way about it, never to have another soda again.
  10. By all means, please share.
  11. I am in my 3rd week post op. I am starting to dry out. My lips are chapped. My hands and feet are dry. I put on lotion, but within minutes it feels like I never put any on. I am drinking my water, but I am still feeling so dry. Did anyone else have this happen post surgery?
  12. I just looked at target.com, but the sizing information leaves a lot to be desired. What kind of sizing are we talking about? The website said for my height and weight a 5, but of course, they don't come in numbered sizes. I am so confused..
  13. Every doctor is different on their calorie requirements. Just be sure to follow whatever your doctor says.
  14. No last minute advice. Just hugs for you. You have begun your surgery countdown. We are all going to be here rooting for you! Thursday will be here before you know it.:crying:
  15. Another benefit of you doing liquids so long is your awesome weight loss! That is weight that is gone forever! Also, you should not have to worry about band slippage because of how long your doctor is allowing you to heal. Keep up with good work.
  16. I think your weight loss is obvious. Your shirt just hangs on you in your during picture. I think everyone is right, you look great! 51 pounds is nothing to sneeze at (even if you can't see it yourself). Keep up the good work!
  17. I had my surgery on 09/25/08 and have only just started laying down in bed. I felt exactly the same way that you did. I slept in a chair for almost the first 2 weeks. Even now, I sleep propped up. It does get better as the days go by. I hope that you feel better soon!
  18. That sounds good. Thanks!
  19. Posting just to post... Happy Bandiversary luluc!:crying:
  20. Dr. Ponce uses the bariactric clinic there for his psychiactric evaluation and nutrition class. Everyone that I met there was really nice. The clinic was really nice. I think I am even allowed to go to support groups over there. I don't know about that doctor in particular, but their services that I dealt with were top notch. That is also where I had my surgery. If their services are any thing to go on, you should be in good hands. I had already gone through most of the process with Dr. Ponce by the time I found out that memorial had a bariactric clinic. Good luck to you!
  21. Hi. Sorry, I didn't use Dr. Rose. I used Dr. Ponce here in Chattanooga. Is Dr. Rose in the bariactric group at Memorial?
  22. If he was taking any medication for his diabeties, he should talk to his PCP about possibly adjusting or even stopping his medicines. He should NOT stop taking anything until he talks to the doctor. Personally, my doctor had me stop taking my metformin the day before surgery. I haven't had a dose since then, and my blood sugars have been normal. Just have him call his doctor. If his blood sugar is dropping too low, then you should take steps to get them back into normal range until he can see his doctor. Hope this helps!
  23. Debbie is right. Don't beat yourself up about not being perfect at this point. I know I cheated on my pre-op diet. I'm not proud of it, but it's true (I ate Krystal's during week 2). Keep doing YOUR best. You can't do anyone else's best. I believe, like Debbie, these doctors know we have trouble sticking to diets. Heck, my doctor didn't even ask me about how I did on the pre-op diet. He didn't weigh me before surgery. You are going to be fine. Just keep coming here for your support or kick in the pants (whichever you need at that time ). Surgery day will be here before you know it!
  24. Don't worry, it is very normal. I came out of surgery 5 pounds heavier than I went in. It is the swelling and the fluids from surgery. This to shall pass.

Same difference. My husband wasn't jumping for joy either!
