Sleeved 9-1-22. Hope4NewMe, you are doing great. I have lost 40+ pounds. I am at 158 today. Had several stalls but I guess that is to be expected. My hair is shedding right now, too. My bloodwork levels are good. It does feel good to put on smaller sizes, doesn't it? I gain weight all over and am losing it the same way. Which is good, I guess but it makes it hard to actually SEE changes. Hmmm, smaller but the same shape. You said, "you're brain still thinks I am the same size". Maybe my brain is doing the same thing! I, too, am so glad I had this surgery. Have fun on your cruise!

Congrats! Sounds like you are doing amazing! I think you are right that losing weight all over makes it harder to see, at least to ourselves. Hope our hair decides to stop falling out soon lol. Thank you for the update, its nice to read and hear about how others are doing.

Wow, 100 pounds in just 4 months is outstanding!! You are so close to your goal too! I do know that weight loss slows down which is why I said that I hope that I can have that happen. I guess its better to be prepared if it doesn't but I like having hope lol. Thank you for the wonderful update, I'm so happy that you are doing so well!

Yes, crazy good to wear those smaller sizes! I've been losing so fast that I've actually dropped through some clothes I bought after surgery. I still struggle to see it myself sometimes, but going from a tight 44 to a lose 38 waist in pants makes it pretty obvious.
I've had a few major stalls as well, but am officially down over 100 pounds now. I'm obviously really happy about that, but also a bit shocked at how fast it's come off.
@Hope4NewMe don't count on maintaining a 10 pound loss per month. For the math geeks, most of the time weight loss follows a pattern called exponential decay. It looks something like this:

The important takeaway is that the closer you get to goal, the slower the loss.

since you're a size 18 (although I don't know how tall you are), you may or may not lose that much boobage. Most of us who've lost a ton of weight (100+ lbs) end up deflated there. Some people have breast augmentations. I hated being "well-endowed", so I had a breast lift and reduction. I wanted to be a "B" cup - or "C" at the most. Now I've got it!

I had VSG sleeve with the Weight loss team in Puerto Vallarta. You have access to Gerald Witt before and after surgery. He is 4 years post op. They have a Facebook group with over 2000 people. Not a ton of posting but there are a lot of resources. The hospital was top notch and Dr. Para was great. My experience was very good but almost 30 days post op and no issues. I am a very self directed individual though. The cost was $4200 which was all the doctors hospital etc. There were a few other charges and for me I too the family and rented an Airbnb. It was a great time for my wife and 3 kids but even for me it was nice. If you are like me and insurance doesn't cover it was great for me.

i was a bit over your inquiry weight of 205 on surgery day, but sorta close enough, so here's my experience:
Am 5'2", 223 on surgery day (was 235 two weeks prior due to 2wk-pre-op diet).
Recovery was uneventful, no issues nor unexpected side effects (i knew i would be sore and tired for a few days, and i was. took Tylenol for a few days for the pain, and luckily, no gas...i attribute this to walking since day one.)
Got to goal (127 lbs) 7 months later (again uneventfully) and am 118.8 lbs this morning, at 4 years post op.

Sleeved on 9-1-2022. Surgery date weight 200, current is 172.2. Height 5'2. My beginning BMI was pretty low, about 36. I am so glad I had this surgery! I didn't have to take any pain meds. Never had nausea or anything. Looking forward to getting off meds for high blood pressure and high cholesterol. AND learning to nourish my body properly! Overall, a very positive experience.

Guys this is your que to exit it’s about to be weird. Ladies stick around for the fun!!! So today I decided after work I needed to decompress. Which means self care night! This usually entails a long hot shower shaving exfoliating you know the works. All the things that make us feel normal again. I have lived in this house since 2019 and have NEVER attempted a “bath”. Let’s face it my bathtub looks like it is just big enough to fit a baby hamster in. But tonight I felt like I would give it a shot… I FIT COMFORTABLY!!!! Then to top it off it came time to shave and my cat is visible. I can see her and all her glory with minimal movement!!! I have not shaved with out fear of snagging that beautiful little sailor In so long!!! Let me tell you it was wonderful!!!!

Pinto Beans with ground beef. I use canned pintos and cook until very soft and thick, not just heated up. Add cooked, well drained ground beef or turkey. One can beans and about 4 oz of meat will last me about 3-4 meals. I was sleeved on 9-1-22 and have lost 30 pounds

Today is exactly 2 months from my surgery. I only lost 8 pounds thanks to a 3 week stall but I did lose 7 inches total from all of my measurements. Last month I lost mostly on my stomach and lost 4 inches just in that one spot. This month I lost mostly on my thighs and calves probably because my only exercise is walking on the treadmill. I'll take any and all progress though! I hope this next month is better then the last but as long as I keep going down, even if its super slow, I'll be happy.

Thanks so much for both of your replies. It does encourage me a lot. I had yesterday an ultrasound in preparation for the surgery , and was told I am grade I Non alcoholic fatty liver disease. Plus my high blood pressure and high cholesterol. All in all, I am more reassured today. In fact , I started thinking about SG as a mostly aesthetic issue to my overwheight, but now I am paying much more focus upon the positive health issues.

I went down to 200lbs the day of surgery, I'm 3 weeks out & have lost 15lbs. I read a passage in my bariatric handbook that basically said, 'Your metabolic rate is higher when you weigh more, meaning you lose more doing less. Weighing less will slow that down. Essentially, the surgery will help you when losing weight is at its hardest.'
Aka, this will help us lose those stubborn last pounds! Its very encouraging for me

Totally agree with everything you said. Loved your analogy, too. It is amazing how WLS helps with health issues. I have a diabetic friend that lost about a hundred pounds through diet but still had diabetes, gained some weight back, then had the Sleeve Surgery and within 2 months is totally off diabetic meds as well as his other meds. My experience has to do with gastric problems. For over 4 years I have had gastritis and colitis causing, vomiting daily and severe diarrhea to the point of not being able to leave my house. After many tests, 2 colonoscopies, 3 EDGs, and many, many meds it was finally discovered I had developed a hiatal hernia, ulcers and a damaged pyloric caused by having about 5 times too much stomach acid that was destroying my stomach lining and allowing the acid to seep throughout my digestive system causing severe intestine problems. I was sleeved on 9-1-22. From day 1, no more gastric problems at all! And have lost 30 pounds so far.
Congratulations on making a decision that is best for you and continued success in your journey to better health. As stated, it is not a "cheat', or the easy way out. It is what is best for YOU!

We are having our usual large family gathering and will make our traditional meal: Turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, corn pudding, fruit salad, deviled eggs, homemade cranberry sauce and a variety of pies: pumpkin, pecan, lemon chess, buttermilk, mincemeat, cherry, apple...
I plan to have at least a bite of all of my Thanksgiving favorites!

How far post-op are you? What restrictions do you still have from your surgeon?
I am pretty disciplined about avoiding carbs during my day to day life, but I do make an exception for Thanksgiving. I will have turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, corn, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie. But instead of creating a heaping plate (and then going back for more), I'll have a plate that looks like it will feed a 4-year old.

I had a full hysterectomy and Tummy Tuck in 2008. Was sleeved on 9-1-22. I am 71 and I had no problems at all, quick easy recovery. I didn't even have to take pain meds. My tummy tuck scar is hip to hip so the sleeve incisions weren't close.

This made me think about my own decision not to share my surgery with anyone that didn't have a "need to know". Virtually everyone I work with has never actually seen me in person, only via zoom, since we almost all work remotely. I didn't tell anyone, even my boss that I was having weight loss surgery.
Quarterly, my larger team (50-60 folks) gets together in person now, but I've put off traveling for these meetings for most of the year. I used my significant hearing loss as the main rationale. I do have a significant challenge hearing in crowded rooms due to my hearing loss, so it's absolutely an issue. If I'm honest with myself though, I put off going mostly because I was ashamed of my weight. I also knew that after surgery, I'd be closer to a "normal" weight and while some might notice a difference between "video" me and "in person" me, I figured it won't be nearly as noticeable for most folks. Anyway, mid-December, I'm finally planning to go to the quarterly get together.
Fair or not, I know 2 things are true, and I made the choices I did based on this:
Being obese carries a significant stigma that we are lazy, have no self-control, are morally bankrupt, are unattractive, etc. I've seen and felt this personally and its impact on promotions and work assignments. No one will ever admit to feeling this way or letting it impact business decisions, but it happens consciously or not. (I digress here a bit, but if you doubt this is real, look at the C-suite in any major corporation and one consistent theme is that it's exceptionally rare to see someone that's even overweight, much less obese.) Many people think that WLS is the easy way out, so don't associate weight lost this way as "redeeming ourselves" for the laziness and lack of self-control. In effect, only if you lose weight "naturally", are you proven "worthy" again. Frankly it sucks that these attitudes are so prevalent, but they are. I made the choices I did because I don't need anyone at work judging me or my motivations. As someone else said, I did this to save my life. We should be celebrating it. Instead, it's just more stigmatizing.
