gojackets got a reaction from tejada32@msn.com in Tips/Tricks to get thru the 2 wk pre-op liquid diet??
Be thankful you get anything besides shakes. I had 3 weeks of 3 Meal Replacement shakes a day. ( Could have SF Jello, broth and sf popsicles) but no solid food of any kind. To make matters worse, I work in an Elementary school and it was the 3 weeks leading up to Christmas break. There were treats in the teacher lounge - where I eat lunch - EVERYDAY! I used it as an opportunity to practice my self control. I also lost an additional 20 pounds leading up to my surgery! Drink plenty of Water and keep yourself busy.

I did it! I did a practice run to work and back 5 miles total, I would have never been able to think about riding a bike to work. I lost 117 lbs so far and I can't believe I just rode a bike 5 miles. I feel amazing. It's been a journey that I am glad I took. And guess what I weight less than my husband, well depends on the day. I went from a tight 28w to comfortable 20w clothes. I still have a ways to go, but nothing can stop me now. Next on my bucket list is skydiving. Let's do this!

Depends... If you are flying... Yes... If you are traveling by car or walking across the border then no. But you will be subject to additional verification and they will more than likely send you into secondary inspection.

I had sleeve surgery on a Wed and drove home on Thurs - 4 hours away. (well I didn't drive, my husband did) We stopped every 45 mins so I could walk (to prevent blood clots) I had no issues, but will 2nd the suggestion of making sure you have pillow for your lap.

Same here. Day 3 for me as well and the only that goes down without any pain is SF popsicles. Plain Water hurts the worst. Can't wait until tomorrow, I can have SF Jello pudding and yogurt.

To Celebrate reaching my goal weight (95% excess weight loss), I had a DexaScan done to measure my body fat percentage. I'm at 20.6%, which is in the Ideal range for my age. The scan revealed that my weight loss was mostly fat and not muscle.

You're talking about the sleeve, right? For rny, there is a pouch because the stomach is bypassed.

Nothing really gives me ick. I do have a pet peeve though concerning wls. People who have too high of expectations. For example, complain they lost "only" 15 lbs a month (that is a whopping 52500 calories less) and blame the surgery when they wouldn't have lost weight at all if it weren't for the surgery and probably would've continued gaining.

The pain from sneezing or coughing is real. Choked a bit on my own saliva and it hurt. Laughing hurts too.

When he told us that, I thought it was such a funny thing, like shouldn't we expect it. But then after, there was a significant different in that incision compared to the rest. So I am glad I knew it was OK.

I have 5 small incisions from my VSG. For the most part, I wouldn't even know that 4 of them are there - they have caused almost no pain at all. But.... the one where they pulled out my stomach... is crazy bruised and is still very painful 9 days PO. It doesn't hurt all the time, only when I engage my stomach muscles, when I stand up, get out of bed, and OMG the pain when I sneeze. I haven't really seen anyone comment on this. Anyone else have this? To be honest, it's more painful than my c-section incisions were.

Yep, getting out of bed was extremely painful. It felt like my insides were tearing. I did bring it up to my Dr & he was not concerned -at all-
I quickly learned yeah, it's part of the healing process for some of us. Sucks, but once that pain starts fading, it fades away fast!

I ended up with a total of 6 incisions. The lower left was/is the one that still causes a little pain 2 weeks out. The bruising is a site to behold. Finally starting to fade. It does get better as those who have gone before us have said. Best wishes and Happy New Year / New You!

yup that one hurt the worst during my recovery and was much more bruised than the others. Took a couple months before it went back to normal.

Yep, I had the exact same experience. I had 4 incisions and the 3 were pretty well healed and painless after the first week or so, but the one was very tender, swollen, and sore for probably an additional 2 weeks. I think that is pretty normal. As long as it isn't hot to the touch, excreting discharge, or showing other signs of infection, it just needs time.

Had my Hida Scan done this morning. 2 hours of lying on a table in a tube lol. ugh. but it wasnt that bad. Injected with the radioactive tracer waited an hour in the machine, then an IV of something to get your gall bladder to empty out and do its thing. The results got posted online before i could even arrive home lol but everything came back normal No issues at all. so thats good. No surgery needed.

i get comments all the time from people i dont know who see me every once in a while. Even the staff at my local post office that i go to recently told me "You loosing a lot of weight, looking good" and so on. I personally like it. I am not a person that is easily offended in anyway regardless if someone is mean or nice. They are just words.

gojackets reacted to Smanky in Hitting goal
I got on the scale this morning to find I've hit goal (in fact, I'm below goal). I'm floored. There's always that doubt in the back of the mind that says "ahh, you'll never make it", leftover from a lifetime of yo-yo dieting failure and self-sabotage, so to actually get here is surreal. This is the first time in my life I've been a normal BMI. I thought it would take me months to shed the final kilogram, especially since I feel like I'm eating in a maintenance way now and not really watching calories like a hawk, but I feel like it dropped off me super quick in the last month (with an extra kilo as a bonus).
For info purposes, it took 14.5 months to go from a 42 BMI to 25. Hard, hard work, but so worth it, and I despite the constant "am I eating too much" voice in my head, I feel like I do have a healthier relationship with food now, in that there's no guilt and shame anymore, even when I've had a mouthful too much.
So happy, stunned and grateful that I'm actually, finally here.
