I log every single thing, including fluids. I honestly don't think I "need" to anymore but I still do. It is like an obsession now.

I use the mini peppers when eating salsa or guacamole. If you eat chips, be honest with yourself and log them so they fit into your daily calorie budget (assuming you log). Just remember the surgery isn’t the fix, it’s a tool to help you make changes for the long term.

I am a year and a half post op and basically went from 363 to 180. Have I been perfect, heck no! Am I more aware and have overall better habits, absolutely! What I’ve learned since my VSG is:

    1. Give yourself some grace- we’re human after all
    2. Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good
    3. One bad decision isn’t going to derail you- consistent bad decisions will!
    4. Know that every day you have an opportunity to do better than the day before

    Good luck in your journey.

Oh man before surgery i ate so much chips. Mindlessly almost. Huge bags of chips.
Things are soooo much different now.
the problem now is that if I indulge in chips like i did today i end up with no room in my stomach for food with nutritional value

    That sounds very yummy!
do you have any suggestions to get the crunch in? I love a salty crunch! I was thinking a taco salad with meat, Beans, corn and salsa but i havent tried lettuce yet for some reason ive got weird fear of lettuce making me sick.
i dont know why but i just worry it wont digest easily.

Not the best decision in the world, obviously. But 3 at a time throughout the day - imagine what it would've been like before the surgery. The backstop worked and now you can get right back to work. And yes, the salsa isn't bad at all. As a newbie to this (one week post-op), this is actually a very encouraging story - thank you.

Salsa isn’t bad for you actually. It’s most fresh veggies and no preservatives. Very low fat and carb. My suggestion is to eat chicken with salsa. It is one of my favorite meals. I just partook chicken breast and then add in salsa and let it cook all the way through. It’s delicious and super healthy. I also use cauliflower rice as a bed for it and it soaks up that flavor so well. I’m still a bit away from solids, but it will probably be one of the first meals I make for myself.

Ugh my first bad eating day.
I am just under 2 months out I’ve been cleared for everything except a small handful of things like steak.
ive tolerated things fine, everything is good.
my uncle made some salsa and i had a couple chips and salsa and i was a gonner i couldnt get enough!
I could only eat like 3 chips with salsa at a time. But throughout the day i kept going back for 3 more.
    it was so good.
i didn’t actually eat any real food today.
i had my two Protein Drinks
i feel guilty and im still thinking about that salsa.
i wish id gotten some Protein chips instead 😕
im not here for any real reason but to vent.
ive got to get some structure to my eating. I have a terrible habit of living off bites and not meals with nothing measured or weighed.
anyways i just thought maybe some others may have began their journey in chaos and could share their stories of getting everything under control.

LabCorp will let you order tests on their website without paying a third party for the order. If it’s something they allow you to self order it maybe easier that way.

Im so nervous that I’m going to go through this and it be for nothing!
Meaning, I’ve tried so many things (like eating correctly, tracking food, exercising for a year, lost 40lbs then gained back) that im scared itll not work or ill mess it up some how!

I believe ill do good because I’ll have the boost of surgery to help me once I start the exercising and tracking food again but just nervous.

Especially since it’s coming out of pocket. Hopefully that’ll be a great motivator too!

To make sure I get my Protein in for the day. I take one bottle of Water and add a lot of my unflavored Protein Powder to my favorite crystal lite drink. No matter what I eat that day, I make sure I drink that entire bottle.
I also find it easier for me to eat crushed ice Ll day over sipping every 15 min. My job gets to crazy for that, but for some reason Ice works.

In addition to there being no way that liquids can stretch your stomach, there is almost no evidence that even eating solids can stretch your stomach, based on more recent research. I've heard interviews with some surgeons and researchers recently that call this notion into question. Drink a lot with no fear!

You have nothing to worry about. Get in the liquids and Protein. Your stomach will not stretch like that... liquids tend to go from your stomach to your small intestine in less than 30 minutes.

    Hello
About nine years ago I had the gastric sleeve and lost a bunch of weight.
    I gained it all back.
Almost a year ago I had bypass surgery and have done very well. I’ve lost over 90 pounds and am less than 10 pounds away from my goal. I am taking it far more seriously this time and feel I will keep it off.
My problem is that when I look in the mirror I only see a person that weighs 250 pounds and feel like a fraud when I’m shopping for a size 12 in pants.
Am I the only one or have other people had struggles with this as well?
    thanks

Your hormones are out of whack post surgery. Things should begin to feel more normal again soon. If the depression is too much to deal with, you may consider reaching out to your teams therapist. 17 pounds in 6 weeks is a pretty good loss. That’s almost 3 pounds a week.

Can anyone give me some encouragement that I will find happiness in life again? I feel so blah at the moment and I can’t find joy anywhere in my life. Has anyone experienced this? I am usually the positive person in the world and my personality has completely changed. Please give me some insight that this will change. I’ve only lost 17 lbs on top of it all.

Two chicken legs sounds like a lot, but actually according to Google, a chicken leg, meat only, no skin is about 1.5 ounces. So you ate approximately 3 ounces of chicken. How many ounces are you supposed to eat per meal?
Dark meat chicken always went down easier for me than white meat. I had to eat it slower, and allow more time between bites, so I felt more restricted. Foods sit differently for each person.
