I’m scheduled for the 10th and I’m scared too. I’m happy to be taking this major step but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t scared. Good luck! ☺️

Have you looked into going to Mexico? Laredo or if you want to come out West, Mexicali or Tijuana? It'll be a heckuva lot cheaper to self-pay, too, and the doctors and clinics are reputable.

That's what it sounds like to me, but I hope others with more experience jump in to help you. If you go through with it, you've set yourself up so well for long term success knowing you can eat well and exercise regularly even without it. I've gotta believe that makes the chances of success with it that much higher. The one thing that keeps entering my mind - almost everyone I hear from who's had the surgery says they wish they'd done it sooner. Very few regrets.

Also, my surgery is December 10th and I’m having the gastric sleeve. That’s what the surgeon suggested.

    Hi!
I’m scheduled for December 10th. I will be having the sleeve done in Mexico. I have insurance but it does not cover this type of surgery. I too am worried about my future after this procedure but from what I have researched, the sleeve helps control portion sizes and desire to eat as much. I’ve been eating healthier and drinking Water and Protein Shakes in hopes of losing weight before the procedure and getting used to eating better. I’m so tired of yo-yo dieting. I just want to look and feel better. I can’t wait to buy the clothes I want to wear and feel more confident in my own skin. Good luck. I can’t wait to hear how you are doing after December 1st. ☺️

MONTH SEVEN! I’m excited today can you tell?
    1. Finished my couch to 5k app. I can run for 30 minutes straight now! I am working on slowly increasing my speed now because I might be tall but I am slow. Working on it though!

    2. I AM IN ONDERLAND!!!! 198.4 this morning. I haven’t been here in probably 12 years, and even that was for a short period of time. I am so excited. I’m overweight now, and getting closer to a normal weight.

10.8 lbs down this month which is great. I’m 140 lbs down total. 28.5 BMI.

I went on a roadtrip with my husband and kids and it was so good. We went on so many hikes and I was able to do everything. We went out to a winery and a brewery and I had one glass at each place and felt perfectly satisfied. But I had great energy and had a wonderful time not feeling like I was holding everyone back, or making the trip all about where I could eat next. food was an afterthought to us having a wonderful time as a family, like it should be.

Goals for this month? Well I’m coming up on the one year anniversary of starting to diet in preparation for surgery. I’d love to hit 150 lbs lost- might be a bit too ambitious at this stage, but a girl can dream.
    1. Increase my speed by .5 mph running.
    2. Lose 10 lbs at best, 7 lbs at least.
    3. Have fun on my camping trip, and over 4th of July weekend without it all being food related.
  12. Congrats!

Six months down! I’m weighing in today at 209.2, so I lost 8.6 lbs last month. Slowing down a bit, but that’s to be expected. Overall I’m 129.8 lbs down.

I’m halfway through a couch to 5k app. It feels great and kind of weird to be running. Like it seems almost impossible that someone of my size can run- then I remember I’m only 9 lbs from being overweight. It’s hard to remember my actual size a lot of the time.

I love how I’m starting to look, and I can’t get over how amazing it feels to run up a staircase that before I had to slowly walk up feeling my knees ache with every step. I’m happy every single day that I had this surgery. Some of my “new” clothes are starting to be too big. Yes, I knew I shouldn’t buy so much but oh well, that’s what Poshmark is for.

This month I want to finish the C25K app and run for 30 minutes straight...the thought is crazy but I’m excited by the possibility. I want to lose 9.4 lbs....which would put me in onederland! It would also move me into being overweight...luckily everyone here understands how exciting being overweight would be.

Crazy to think that six months ago today I was being dropped off at the hospital by my husband. I was so nervous and excited but also certain I was making the right choice. And I was!

One month in, 16.4 lbs lost after surgery, 74.2 lbs total loss. Feeling great, just started on soft foods. Basically just eggs and cottage cheese at this point. Hit a huge milestone- I now have less than 100 lbs left to lose! I’ve got a long road but I’m heading in the right direction.

well I'm 6 weeks post OP, lost 41 pounds so far, and I feel great, i thought about retiring early, because i had spinal stenosis, and couldn't walk but 50 yards with out having to sit, because the pain was so bad,
but now I'm walking 5 miles per day, not at one time though, i feel like a new man, everyone notices but me, I cant see the weight loss, but i can feel the difference,

If you don't already know how to cook, now is the time to learn. In order to eat differently for the rest of your life, you need to know how to choose, prep, and prepare appropriate meals. There are lots of supportive books about WLS and bariatric cooking. Here are a few that I've obtained:

Angelina1210 reacted to mswillis5 in Am I done losing after 5 months?
My wife and I had surgery together almost 1 year ago. We lost almost lb for lb for the first 6 months. After 6 months I was almost done losing but she still had a bit more to go and she continued to lose. Her weight loss slowed down and then stalled for the past few months and just started moving again. Staying with the program that you have will help keep you on track. There will definitely be times where the weight falls off and then times where you are stuck at the same weight.

Angelina1210 reacted to MandoGetsSleeved in GULP - Confessions and accountability - New week starts today
So... what happens when you stop checking out the forums every day and quit tracking? Well, for me it means weight gain. Hit my low of about 165 and then... well... then, essentially have been on a bender since then. It's been about a month. I know what I have to do, I just have to actually DO IT. I'm up 4lbs and can't seem to shake it. I'm NOT going over 170 again, but I have to find that happy medium between starving myself and gorging myself.
My solution: start holding myself accountable. I'm starting over today. Tracking, posting, and weighing daily. For others out there in the same boat, don't give up or give in. Take it one day at a time and don't let setbacks get you down.

Thought I would give an update here. VSG was done 9/14/2021, today is 11/14/2021.
    THE GOOD:
Down 55 lbs from surgery, 64 lbs from the start of the pre-op diet, and 94 lbs from my heaviest weight. Hypertension and asthma diagnoses were officially withdrawn. Hypogonadism is under review. CPAP average setting went from 16 cm H2O to about 7 cm. Have an appointment soon to see if I need it any more. Depression has almost completely been put in remission. Went from 52/34 to 36/34 in the same cut of jeans, and actually need to go see if they have 34/34 at the outlet. Went from 4XL or even 5XL shirts to L or XL (mostly XL). Went from 15EE boots to 12D; my arch has returned, which shocked my surgeon and my PCP. Running and enjoying it for the first time ever. Way too many NSVs to count THE BAD:
Still occasional bouts of Constipation which mess up scale results, but then it all, um, resolves and the number on the scale goes WHOOSH. Had to fire my NUT for being a horrible person. Found a new NUT who is amazing and who does the same fitness I do. The extremely restrictive diet (especially under the old NUT's "guidance") caused a massive drop in strength, which did not help at work. It also caused me to stall out. The new NUT increased my intake from 600-800 to 1000-1400 cals a day, and WHOOSH went the scale once again. It actually hurts to sit down because my butt is bony. I'm cold all the freaking time, even when it's objectively-by-any-sane-standard not cold. Needed a chiropractic adjustment because my hips are not used to carrying 25% less of me and were hurting badly. Had to replace expensive work boots because they were giving me blisters. Clothes I can get from the Goodwill and Ross Dress For Less; work boots not so much. THE UGLY:
Eating too fast or even one bite too much means spending the next 30 minutes to an hour in great physical discomfort. It takes time for the full signal to arrive in my brain. Eating lettuce salad was, in hindsight, a really, really bad idea. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Some gnarly skin tags as my fat melts away, and the beginnings of some loose skin. Added in a daily dose of collagen peptides to help. One incision is still quite visible, though it's healed over. Starting to notice a little more hairfall, including head, beard, and chest. Still the best thing I've ever done for myself.
