I had a rough ride early on and can honestly say that I could not go back to a desk job till 8 weeks. However I am only one of a tiny percentage who dont do well for a while after surgery.

Yeah, many surgeons now agree your new stomach size can't be stretched so why would you add a lapband type device into your body to prevent something that won't happen anyway.so many people had complications from lap bands ( my surgeon doesn't even perform lap band surgeries because of that reason) I would do .ots of research before going down that road.

I went through exactly the same thing so I know first hand how you are feeling. First of all reach out to someone who can help you with the suicidal thoughts get some counselling asap. Gosh I was that bad I was bawling to my mother that I now wanted a stomach transplant 😳. I felt awful I wanted to die I spent 6 weeks curled up in a ball on my sisters couch. I did the old but I wasn't that big blah blah blah. What you are going through is grief and you will go through all the stages some more than once. When I started loosing weight I would tell people I would gladly have the weight back just to feel normal again. I totally get how you feel. Hormones have a lot to do with this I was perimenopausal and ended up on Patches as I said to my Dr I can't deal with both meaning the effects of surgery and menopause, so that helped alot. It gets better trust me on this. I cried multiple times a day for weeks, I didn't go to work thank God I had plenty of leave saved up but going back home and back to work helped me get back into my routine and gave me something else to to think about. On your path to recovery the good days will slowly out number the bad days. I couldn't talk about surgery without crying for months. I would tell people it should be outlawed all sorts of crazy stuff. So now I am 8 months post op and feel so much better. I am 35 kilos down and have come to the realisation that I wouldn't have lost the weight without the surgery, yes I went through a stage of if only a stuck to the pre op changes I made I wouldn't have had to have surgery... But I can't say this enough and you are probably thinking yeah right what do you know it's worse for me but I do know and it will get better just be gentle on yourself try to do things you enjoy spend time with supportive people who will look after you when you need it. You are not alone it gets better, how long will it take you I don't know it took me 6 months and I think when I realised I could eat and drink "normally" again I got better quicker. Now I am fighting another battle but that's a story for another day. Love your restriction while you have it. Get your Protein in stay hydrated. If you want to message me privately please do as it helps to talk to someone who has been where you are. It gets better ❤

I weigh myself daily at one point it was twice daily. I rarely weighed myself before surgery and back in the days when my weight was in check I also weighed daily. For me it helps check things in check.
To the OP yes my weight bounces between the 2 same kilos for a month. This is my tracking since Feb. 73kg, 72,73,72,72, 71,72,71,72,71. These are roughly weekly recordings my loss has slowed alot now I am 9 months out but early on it was a similar pattern

I'm sorry to read about your LPR diagnosis. It's a serious issue for sure.
I'm not really sure how to reply to you about this, because I looked back at your previous posts and see that you had VSG and lost weight, then regained and then revised to RNY and then made a thread about how much fast food you could still eat and subsequent weight regain with RNY due to fast food choices. So obviously there was an issue two years ago (and probably prior to that) when you were still eating copious amounts of KFC etc... so I'm wondering if you reached out to your bariatric team when you realized how much you could eat. If not, why not? Perhaps they would've directed you to a therapist then. Please consider therapy. There's quite a bit of wls patients on this site that have sought therapy and are now thriving and overcame their food issues. Therapy is yet another tool just like weight loss surgery is that some patients need to be successful.
    Best wishes.

I hadn’t heard of it either & it wasn’t an option with my surgeon. Is it a Sydney thing?? I wonder if stomach stretching after sleeve was either an old wives tale or to scare patients to encourage them to eat correctly (portion size, frequency, etc.) so that wouldn’t happen.
I do recall Dr Nowzaradan operating again on one of his patients saying they had stretched their tummy again but they had been eating exactly the same way as they always had: huge portions, many times a day every day for a long time. So they deliberately worked to stretch it again. No surgery would have helped them.
As others have said it sounds similar to lapband (gastric banding) which are not performed as often because of higher risk of complications. There are a lot of people here who have had to have a revision to sleeve or more commonly to bypass because of issues with their band.
On googling I noticed that some weight loss clinics don’t identify the possible side effects of the minimiser but did discover one (Perth) clinic that did:
… placing a ring around the top of the sleeve can cause obstructive symptoms much like adjustable gastric banding resulting in difficulty swallowing and food intolerance. It can cause dilatation of the top of the sleeve which we consider to be the most critical part. It may also increase the risk of reflux, volume regurgitation and possible aspiration.
But if you’ve done your research, weighed the pros & cons, and you know yourself & your challenges with eating best, & your surgeon supports you, it is ultimately your decision.
    All the best.

https://sydneybariatricclinic.com/our_treatment/gastric-sleeve-with-minimiser-ring/#:~:text=An option at the time, from stretching in the future. >>> An option at the time of Gastric Sleeve surgery is to have a device called the MiniMizer Ring (MMR) placed around the top of the newly-sleeved stomach. The aim of the MMR is to prevent the Sleeve stomach from stretching in the future.
I'm wondering about the long term effects of this ring now. I'm curious what the rates for GERD are when adding this ring on top of a sleeve? Does it cause more pressure than normal?

TL;DR: CA Prop 65 is out of control fear-mongering with a lack of understanding of science

So, CA requires things to be labeled if there is any chance at any dose that you could possibly have an increased risk of cancer... However, the dose makes the poison, and most of these studies are done on Sprague-Dawley rats, which are so inbred that EVERYTHING gives them cancer. I work in cancer research, and I have also had some of these rats as pets. They ALL get tumors.
Yes, you MIGHT theoretically have an increased risk of cancer (though probably not) if you ate about 100 shakes a day, but you would have massive intestinal problems first.
It's probably from the artificial sweeteners - the best research we have shows that even if you're drinking a case of diet soda a day, you are not at extra risk of cancer (please be aware: if you don't die of something else first, you WILL die of cancer because your body is always forming small cancers). Rats had to ingest something like the equivalent of 30 cans of diet soda's worth of artificial sweetener A DAY to show an increased risk of cancer, and as I mentioned above, it can be hard to tell because these rats all get cancer anyway.

I was also told to stop taking Vitamins a certain amount of weeks before surgery. But in reality taking bariatric vitamins before surgery is a waste. You will literally just pee most of it out. The body can only absorb so much and the rest goes out in pee.

I was told I would have to stop taking Vitamins a few weeks before surgery. But, why would you want to take them? The only reason to take bariatric vitamins is because you can't absorb vitamins due to a malabsorptive procedure or you can't eat enough of a variety of foods due to a restrictive procedure. otherwise, mostly vitamins just aren't necessary

I really appreciate everyone. I was so upset last night. Was definitely venting and just trying to find a place to get it out. I know I can't let these experiences live "rent free" in my head.

It was actually the first time I felt self hatred since my surgery though. Definitely brought up some old bad feelings. My dad was really verbally abusive to me growing up and I had a boyfriend who also made comments about my size so I'm incredibly self conscious now. Just looking forward for people to not say anything about my size at all. That'll be nice.

I have used extenders and lived. It's momentarily embarrassing, but you can ask the flight attendant and they are really chill about it. They are so used to it!
No one has every said anything to me - passenger or flight attendant - in any situation when I've asked or used an extender.
it really depends on the plane, not so much the carrier. I exclusively use American but there's a huge range of seat designs.
If you're really worried, you can buy an extender on Amazon.

Why not just have soda or virgin drinks? You don't have to stay home and be left out. As long as you're there with your friends, does it matter what you're drinking? If they're you're friends, they'll understand why you aren't drinking alcohol and they'll just be glad you're there with them.

Wow, so many reasons that you shouldn't. I haven't, 12 weeks post op. First, you don't know how your new tummy will react. Do you really want to have a dumping "event," or be sick as a dog? I have heard that liquor has a greater effect after, so you could end up face first in the punch bowl-God forbid all three. I wouldn't. If they know about your surgery, and they are your friends, they will be supportive. Also, social pressure should not figure into this. Just saying.

I think @SleeverSk was wondering if your sleeping med was Stillnox (Zolpidem) which is renown for causing sleep eating (it was the one my mum was on) & was only suggesting you drop it if you can or if you can change your sleeping tablet to another formulation. This may be a challenge given your broader health issues & medication regime but certainly worth a conversation with your prescribing doctors about trying something that works differently.
PS - Stillnox/Zolpidem can cause anxiety & depression in some people which may be of concern to you too if this is the sleeping med you take.
    All the best.

dumping is when you eat too much sugar or fat in one sitting and your system goes into overdrive trying to deal with it. Vitamins wouldn't do that. Also, dumping isn't very common with sleeve - it's much more common in bypass patients (about 30% of whom dump). So I wouldn't worry about that...

Ughhhh how do you deal with fat shaming post op?
I was standing outside and a car drove by and screamed at me "what are you a linebacker?!" In front of a bunch of people. We ignored it but it hurt pretty bad.. I feel so embarrassed and ashamed of myself. I have so much self hatred that I'm trying to undo. I've lost a good amount of weight but I'm still big and very tall...feel so unfeminine.
I'm trying so hard to not let this get to me But I'm hurt. It felt like high school bullying. I'm wondering when ill reach the low 200s so I'll look "normal". I feel like I'm in this weird physical transitionary state. Before my surgery it was like I felt like I had to prove somehow that I was actively working on my weight. Now it's like I am, I had surgery and I work on weight loss without thinking about it and don't feel like I need to say anything but when someone calls me fat or makes a mean comment, it puts me back in that mental jail of being 330+ lbs. It so depressing. I don't know, it's weird. I know I'm fat but I'm also losing weight. I just want to be comfortable with myself regardless of what people say but damn it puts me in a bad place to be bullied while trying to hard to get healthy.

I haven't tried straws, but I do have to drink soda from a glass these days I can't do it straight from a can or bottle, sometimes I can but most times I get gas caught in my throat and it feels like it's in my chest and I feel like spewing for a few minutes until I burp. That happens if I drink it to soon after eating also
