I am three years post op and I can drink while eating but I don’t recommend it. For one, I’m pretty confident my pouch was left bigger than most since I was always able to eat more than expected from day one. For two, I gained my weight back and this could have contributed. I am thinking I am doing a revision and the PA reminded me I should be doing all those things such as the 30:30:30 (30 before and after with no Water and take at least 30 minutes to eat your meal). They haven’t checked it yet but if it is possible to stretch the sleeve in any way, I worry that I have stretched mine. Regardless, he explained that the purpose of not doing both even once you have room is because the liquid flushes the food through your system quicker so you don’t feel full as long. In terms of the size bites you can take they will gradually increase BUT, ideally you will still stay with “normal” sized bites but with time in between so that full signal can get to your brain. Hopefully others can Learn from my mistakes. Apparently they make these rules for a reason 😔

you will be fine as I have said in replies to your posts before and privately ( I have sent you another message a little while back that you may no have seen yet). It gets better it really does. You need to stop regretting and stop the what if's. It's done you cant change it. IT GETS BETTER, I felt exactly like you I started to feel better around the 5 to 6 month mark and now at the 9 month mark I mostly don't have any regrets. Get some counselling to help you through the grieving process remind yourself why you did this and I know you don't care about the weight loss right now I was the same but you will when you start feeling better. I am even at the point of oh no I have stopped losing. you also need to accept that you are not the only one who feels has felt like this, accept what we are telling you. YOU WILL FEEL BETTER. you will feel like yourself again only better. you will be able to eat all the foods you love only in smaller amounts. I can eat way more than I ever thought I would these days so much so I wish my restriction was better.
Do you work? have you got friends you can talk to about this? what hobbies do you have? try to do things that you enjoy and take your mind off it.
Have a good cry about it, I cried multiple times a day I couldn't even utter the word surgery without crying I wanted it outlawed. now I would happily recommend it to people but I would also tell them the first 6 months are rough.
Ask yourself and tell us what exactly is it that makes you think you will never be yourself again what are your fears what is causing the regret ? once you have the answers to those questions you can and we can help you move forward.

SleeverSk reacted to SleeveToBypass2023 in This last 50 pounds is the bane of my existence!!!
It's driving me completely crazy. Nothing I do is getting it off. Working out...no. Changing up what I do on my workouts....no. Sticking to my diet.....no. Being even more strict with my diet.....no. Easing up my diet a bit.....no. Doing easier workouts.....no. Carb blockers...no. Appetite suppressants....no. supplements to speed up metabolism.....no. I absolutely REFUSE to stay at this weight, but I truly don't know what else to do......I'm LITERALLY going out of my mind. I need to lose these last 50 pounds, and absolutely nothing is helping. Just needed to vent about it and get it out of my system.

You are so right, here in Australia dr's surgeries are run like a money-making enterprise not health care providers, you get 5 mins max in the office and dare you want to address more than 1 issue regardless of if the symptoms could be related you have to make another appointment. its 1 symptom per visit. How is that providing good health care and getting a full picture of what's going on with someone?

Thank you for the topic, I am working on making the transition into maintenance now… im 7 months in tomorrow- and am slowly losing. I am still working out how to make the transition, and think i will be one that ALWAYS needs to track, as my history involves many years of yo-yoing as well. Daily weighing is my normal. I dont obsess, but it keeps me aware. I will be watching this thread for good ideas- i was self pay in Mexico, so I can use all the help i can get.

I started off tracking everything in My Fitness Pal, but it got to be too much. Now, I keep an informal daily calorie tally in my head, and so far it's working. I also weigh every morning without fail to make sure I keep things in check. I know some people advise against it, but it works for me.

This is what really scares me. People who have clearly done really well then slipping back into old habits. Thank you so much for sharing.
I am one of the people who is afraid to relax. Still clenched 100% of the time. I an eat a lot more now I'm almost 2 years post surgery. I do stick to the Protein first veg second carbs third ALL THE TIME though, maybe that's what's saving me. Do you think that might help you @SleeverSk ?
I've had a few planned strays from the path and one or two unplanned ones but I've been able to get back on the path immediately after (so far).
The tip I would share would be to track everything but I know that doesn't suit everyone. I would love to think that in another couple of years I wouldn't need to but I suspect I always will.
Really interested in others' experiences. Thanks for starting the thread OP!

I had no idea how far this surgery would take me. I also didn't want to dream too high. I had crashed and burned to many times before. I thought that if I lost 60lbs then that would equal what I managed to loose once with Slimming World and again with Weight Watchers and again under my doctor. I smashed through that target very quickly. Then 100lbs came and went. I used to watch the Greatest looser and always wanted to say I was in onderland as I don't ever remember being that weight. My scales clunked down to that dream target too.
Now, I am in a place that I am happy in my body. I could happily stop loosing but very occasionally the scales go very slowly down.
I posed your question to this forum a while ago. Many answered and told me that my body would tell me when it was at the right weight. It seems like it will.
BTW, My NHS doctor wants me under 140lbs but the NHS here will not remove my loose skin so they can go fish . My surgeon and his team are over the moon with my progress. I know I paid for my own surgery but they could have turned me away, I was very unfit. I will always be grateful to them.
Good luck at achieving any weight you decide on

There's no one place on Bariatric Pal that houses questions/comments about maintenance. There probably should be separate forum for maintenance, but I'll start a thread here.
For those of you in maintenance, where are you in your journey? Any lessons learned?

    Doctors….
As I get older, my opinion on doctors has changed quite a bit. Going through taking care of two parents and all their medical needs has shown me quite a bit.
At the end of my fathers life, I came to the conclusion and can sum it up in a very easy statement.
” A Doctor graduating at the bottom of their class is still a Doctor.”
Both of my parents were of the generation the doctors were on a pedestals . As their journeys towards end of life progressed, it became very very apparent to them that they are not. Bad diagnosis, bad care, wrong medication‘s, not listening to patient feedback on and on. I can’t give horror stories on the amount of bullshit that came from doctors mouths.
Doctors now tend to be not very thorough and have blinders on. Gone are the days where they treated a patient as a whole person looking at all results and all the conditions. You need to be your own advocate, and do what is right for you.
I’m not saying there aren’t good doctors out there, but they are becoming harder and harder to find. And we MUST question and research and push back…or find another Doctor.
like any other profession, do you need to seek out the best and discard the worst.
You are right to be skeptical, and have the right to find a Doctor who aligns with your thinking and care.

Oooh I hope this is going to be a fascinating thread - what is 'it's gone too far' - is it in the eye of the beholder?? We might all have our own idea of that. Thanks for the chance to discuss this OP!!
I get asked pretty regularly now whether or not I am well (I SO AM) and whether or not I planned to lose this much weight (I SOOOOO DID). The inference being - you at best look thin of face and body, or at worst look really unwell (in that person's eye). I filter/ignore those comments depending on how much I trust/want to hear about that person's eye!
I think allowing people to do what they want to and need to with their bodies for their own reasons without judgement is probably a good thing on a general and totally generic level. I know it can be difficult when people go beyond what we ourselves are comfortable with, and then that it goes up another level if they do things well outside our norms AND societal norms.
If they are not hurting anybody then fantastic. Honestly you do you - if you want to have a skeletal face (and get paparazzi to follow you and your daughter for a day of "shopping") and it feels good to you then dooooooo it! And make your money out of it if you need that too.
Absolutely ready for a big old discussion on this one. 😍

I took Prilosec for 25 YEARS !!!!! Yep - That long !!!! Now that I've had the sleeve and my hiatel hernia repaired,I was able to wean myself off of them and I don't need them any more No rebound effect. The pathology report came back on the part of my stomach that was removed and it reported multiple polyps in there due to the years of Prilosec use. My doc didn't seem concerned about it . All those years ,I never knew the hernia could be repaired !
