I don't count calories so I would have to guess. Probably around 1000

One thing I got early on was a set of body composition scales - like Tanita. There are lots on Amazon. This tells you a lot more about yourself that just your weight. As you’re small like me (I’m 5ft 1 inches) we need a lot less ‘maintenance’ calories than the average for a woman. It’s not hard with an unmeasured calorie intake to be having too much. Equally, if you deprive your body of maintenance calories too long your body will try to conserve rather than spend your fat reserves. Starving yourself is not a good option. It may be that some of the foods you’re eating are too high calorie for you. Because you’re a sleeve patient rather than bypass you won’t have the same issue with malabsorption and it is possible a year out from surgery that you’re simply eating too many calories. The gas and nausea doesn’t sound nice though and I would not have expected this a year out, so good to have a talk to your physician about this. Maybe you’re just going through a difficult period - you’ve lost over a third of your body weight from your start date, which is amazing! I wish you every success getting to your goal.

Hi I'm 65 and had bariatric surgery in 2008. Was 300 lb lost $175 lb took about a year I guess. Kept weight off for a good 10 years 2 years ago started gaining weight now I'm up to 200. Not sure what changed did have an ulcer had to have balloons surgery twice to help repair it. Also in the last 2 years I have stretched out my pouch definitely and my hormones are all messed up because I have cravings which I never had before and overeating which I never could do before wish me luck I'm trying to change it all around again

I turned 61 in September but had my surgery August 18, 2021. I’m 2 months out. I’ve lost over 35 lbs the first month. I continue to lose on a weekly basis. I’m not only counting pounds but inches too. Everyday it’s a struggle but I’m determined NOT to be the biggest one at the Christmas party again this year!

Well I just found out about this forum so I saw this post and wanted to reply as I am older than a lot of people who have this surgery. Let me tell you that age is just a number. You can be young, have this surgery and be less successful then someone older. I think it depends on the individual. I was not overweight as a kid, and I weighed about 100lbs in high school. I started putting on the weight with each pregnancy and it got harder and harder to loose it as the years went by. Bad eating habits of course played a role, as well as genetics. My body killed my thyroid when I was pregnant with my son, and it just got harder after that to get the weight off. When menopause hit, I really started to gain.
I had RNY surgery in Oct/2020 at age 61. I had high blood pressure, severe sleep apnea, sore hips, knees ankles, and feeling short of breath from just vacuuming so you get the picture. Could not walk 5 feet without having to sit down. Crazy awful.
(I have asthma too) I have hypothyroidism, IBS, and was also border line diabetic. Yep...time to smarten up and take control of my health.
I am 62 years old now and at 10 months post op. Best decision I have ever made and I wish I had done it years ago. I talked myself out of it every time, telling myself I can loose this on my own. Who was I kidding. LOL
It was hard at first and I was not prepared for the mental side of it. I sat and cried the second day home from hospital as my brain was screaming at me, scolding me for what I had done. It wanted food, and I felt a lot of depression and remorse. I was not expecting that. It got better as time went on and as the weight started to drop, I felt much more in control, and very happy to see it go. Time to take care of me.
I have hit a stall and have not lost any weight in 2 months, but I know this is normal and I am trying not to panic. I expected it would be more challenging to loose this weight because of my age. I do not exercise, but plan to start in the fall, I still have about 60lbs or more to go to reach my goal weight. No going back to my old habits, and If I do, I have this tool in place to help me. Any questions? just ask me. I am happy to share my experiences and happy to hear everyone's stories as well.
BTW, You should check out Dr. Weiner's YouTube videos. He is a bariatric surgeon and has good sold advice on this whole process.

WOW, 45lbs in 2 months is awesome! Congratulations. food is very challenging for sure. Some foods I used to eat I can no longer tolerate, and some foods I never ate before I am now eating. I still crave carbs more than sweet things, but I guess it will be a life long battle and all part of the journey.
What a crazy journey it has been. Best of luck to you as well.

Hi am 52 years old had gastric bypass October 19,2018. Am almost three years out and the best decision I ever made no regrets . My heights to was 350 am now 184 pounds but i exercise and lift weight . I am happy to say I have a tool to work with because losing weight on my own I couldn’t do it I have disc problems and thyroid issues but now they remove the thyroid issues so am left with the back issues but I still keep active . I can always adjust my tool and lose more weight but I stick to fruits , vegetables , Protein which Include Protein Shake and smoothies and my weight remains the same even through the pandemic

In the early days of surgery you will not be able to eat much at one time. Take it slow. If you are having pain, vomiting or any other concerns you are best to talk to your bariatric team. Complications can occur and you want to rule them out. Just be patient and do not stress yourself out over it. Try to sip Water through the day, and focus on getting in your Protein, even if it just a few sips of a Protein Drink. You will make it. It will get easier.

I agree with FutureSkyDiver - fat is lost unevenly, and you really can't do much to control it. Exercise is great for you regardless of age. I exercise a lot more that I'm now in my 60s than I have at any other time of my adult life. It not only boosts your weight loss (although as they say, diet is at least 80% of weight loss), but it's great for your overall health.

Your body loses the fat where it wants, when it wants. There is nothing you can do to speed up fat lose in a specific area of the body. A rule of thumb, although not at all tested or true for everyone, is first on, first off, so if you originally stored your fat in those areas, they will be the last areas to lose the fat.
And...I'm a firm believer that exercise helps everyone, regardless of age. Perhaps even more so with age, as there are a number of positive mental/cognitive returns on time spent exercising, beyond the physical benefits.

I crave carbs now mostly, instead of sugar. food in general taste "off" to me so I am struggling with what to eat. I find my cravings in general are less frequent as well. I can say no a lot easier than I could before this surgery.
