  1. I had RNY surgery last Oct. I was 61 yrs old at that time. 62 now, and of course I am now at 1 yr post op 100lbs gone so far. You will do fine! Follow your plan and take it 1 day at a time Best of Luck!
  2. I am a bypass patient, not a sleeve patient. I am sure I need to be more active and have a plan in place for exercise. I am also unemployed and need to find a job so maybe that will make a difference if I manage to find a job. I try not to miss meals because I know how that effects the body. You could be right, my body could just be going through a difficult time. Thank you for your comment 😀
  3. Hi Everyone, I had RNY surgery on Oct, 13th, 2020, so I am just over the 12 month post op mark. I notice my weight loss has slowed down a lot, and around the 8-9 month post op mark, I have stalled and I am not loosing any weight. I know this is normal but still worried that my body has reached it's set point. If anyone here has experienced this, let me know. I seem to have gained a pound each month and my weight is back up to the weight it was when I was at 9 months post op. I have lost 100lbs since surgery, but still have around 60 lbs. to go to reach my goal weight. Should I be worried? ( I will be speaking to my Bariatric clinic soon for my 1 year appointment so I will be talking to them about this) All advice and opinions welcomed. Thanks 😀
  4. I don't count calories so I would have to guess. Probably around 1000
  5. I am still following my plan. I do not exercise but I am not a couch potato either. I walk 3-4 days a week. I am also having a lot of gas and nausea, which I am working with my Doctor to find out the cause. We have ruled out some things and are investigating others. I would like to start a bit of light aerobics and weights, which I hope will help with that calories in vs out balance. I know this is a life style change, just feeling a bit discouraged. Thanks for your comment.
  6. congratulations! A 52 lb weight loss in 7 weeks is amazing. WTG!
  7. So I have lost 100lbs, and I am 11 months post op. I still have about 70 lbs. to go to reach my goal weight. No worries there. What I am noticing is that my butt, belly, hips and tummy still seem to have a lot of fattiness to them. I still have that top part of the belly, under the bust, that seems fatty as well. I have a waist, but then I have the belly apron fat. Any tips on how to reduce this? I am not talking about loose skin, and yes that is a part of it, but it seems like it is still carrying some fat. I do not exercise, and was wondering at my age (62), if exercising is going to help at all. I was thinking of trying to do some light aerobics, and some sit ups, etc. Do I need to give it time for my body to loose the rest of the weight? Any thoughts, tips or ideas would be great.

    Regret?

In the early days of surgery you will not be able to eat much at one time. Take it slow. If you are having pain, vomiting or any other concerns you are best to talk to your bariatric team. Complications can occur and you want to rule them out. Just be patient and do not stress yourself out over it. Try to sip water through the day, and focus on getting in your protein, even if it just a few sips of a protein drink. You will make it. It will get easier.

    Drinking with Meals

I sometimes drink fluids with a meal, but usually just take a sip or 2. I do not think it would be a problem. Just be mindful of the amount.
  10. That is fantastic! Glad you are doing ok. 😀
  11. I had RNY surgery so all I know is the stomach portion that is closed off still produces some acid, but shrink's over time because it is not being used. No foods are off limits, but a lot of people do not tolerate pasta, bread, rice. It sites very heavy for me in my pouch, so I cannot eat it very often. ( I am 10 months post op RNY) These foods are high in carbs as well, so the calories can add up quickly. You have to give it time and slowly introduce these foods as you go along. It may takes years before you can eat them again, or maybe not at all. Focus on Fruits, veggies, protein and low carb options.
  12. 135lbs is really good especially since you had surgery less than a year ago. WTG!
  13. I crave carbs now mostly, instead of sugar. Food in general taste "off" to me so I am struggling with what to eat. I find my cravings in general are less frequent as well. I can say no a lot easier than I could before this surgery.
  14. WOW, 45lbs in 2 months is awesome! Congratulations. Food is very challenging for sure. Some foods I used to eat I can no longer tolerate, and some foods I never ate before I am now eating. I still crave carbs more than sweet things, but I guess it will be a life long battle and all part of the journey. What a crazy journey it has been. Best of luck to you as well.
  15. Well I just found out about this forum so I saw this post and wanted to reply as I am older than a lot of people who have this surgery. Let me tell you that age is just a number. You can be young, have this surgery and be less successful then someone older. I think it depends on the individual. I was not overweight as a kid, and I weighed about 100lbs in high school. I started putting on the weight with each pregnancy and it got harder and harder to loose it as the years went by. Bad eating habits of course played a role, as well as genetics. My body killed my thyroid when I was pregnant with my son, and it just got harder after that to get the weight off. When menopause hit, I really started to gain. I had RNY surgery in Oct/2020 at age 61. I had high blood pressure, severe sleep apnea, sore hips, knees ankles, and feeling short of breath from just vacuuming so you get the picture. Could not walk 5 feet without having to sit down. Crazy awful. (I have asthma too) I have hypothyroidism, IBS, and was also border line diabetic. Yep...time to smarten up and take control of my health. I am 62 years old now and at 10 months post op. Best decision I have ever made and I wish I had done it years ago. I talked myself out of it every time, telling myself I can loose this on my own. Who was I kidding. LOL It was hard at first and I was not prepared for the mental side of it. I sat and cried the second day home from hospital as my brain was screaming at me, scolding me for what I had done. It wanted food, and I felt a lot of depression and remorse. I was not expecting that. It got better as time went on and as the weight started to drop, I felt much more in control, and very happy to see it go. Time to take care of me. I have hit a stall and have not lost any weight in 2 months, but I know this is normal and I am trying not to panic. I expected it would be more challenging to loose this weight because of my age. I do not exercise, but plan to start in the fall, I still have about 60lbs or more to go to reach my goal weight. No going back to my old habits, and If I do, I have this tool in place to help me. Any questions? just ask me. I am happy to share my experiences and happy to hear everyone's stories as well. BTW, You should check out Dr. Weiner's YouTube videos. He is a bariatric surgeon and has good sold advice on this whole process.
