Filled During Surgery?
AMEN!!!! QUOTE: LanakilaAs I understand it, the fill during the surgery is not actually intended to start your restriction. It is supposed to be used to check for leaks, and to get your port line full so that they won't have to pump so much into you on your first actual fill. If you are feeling some restriction it is likely to be due more to swelling than any saline put in during installation. hmm, well then maybe its some sort of good combination, my little test fill, and maybe that i'm drinking 3 protien shakes (well trying) daily

Help!!! Have i failed???
hey hang in there!!!! go get that fill!!! i khow you feel, it's how i felt when i tried weight watchers, if i knew i gained i wouldn't go that week, and just promise myself i'd do better this next week, then get weighed...yeah that doing better next week never came.... i'm serious go get that fill, no one expected you to lose any weight with out that fill, if we could lose weight and keep it off without the fill, um we wouldn't have needed the surgery...i know eventually our behaviors will change, but for now you need your tool to help you! whats the worst possible thing that could happen? um "sir, you've gain X amount of pounds since your surgery" um ok, then they give you a fill and your back in control, AWESOME! i doubt anyone would mention the gain, they know what were going thru, you have no fill in you, and even if you have one i've been reading some people it takes 3+ fills to get to that sweet spot and start losing.... don't make me fly to arizona and take you myself,...cause i will:biggrin:

Filled During Surgery?
i got filled during surgery...they say that i may start to feel hungry soon once the swelling goes down around my stomach...but oh yeah i could tell i had a fill or i'd be starving on all liquids by now...the fill....a great help!
-
If I knew then, what I know now...
i'm 2 days post op...my pre op diet was low carb so i really didn't have to worry about full liquids or mushies... what i wish i had done was look more at the recipies and things people have posted...cause shakes and chicken broth, after day 2 for me, need a little spicing up if i'm supposed to do this 10 days...everything that i had in my home was jello, yogurt, shakes...all very sweet, making me nauseas lol so i'm already looking at things people are eating in the mushies stages...so my advice...read ahead get different things to eat in your home for you to eat...i truly believe that will make things a little better, even just adding certian spices to you meals can make all the difference!:tt2: good luck guys!

when does the pain/soreness END!!!
oh yeah i'm a whiny baby...3 days post op...hurts to get out of a chair, hurts to get out of the bed, hurts to burp, cough ect....all my incisions are pretty sore to the touch...will walking more help?...cause i sure will do it!! the first day i walked every hour at least for 5-10 minutes like the nurse told me, yesterday didn't walk as much, but did go to walmart in the evening...that was like an hour walk (very, very slow pace, but i walked) so more walking or is it something that just takes time to heal

Low-Carb and NOT loving it!
do you want me to come and beat her up...cause i will....j/k i had surgery today..let me tell you Water and chicken broth, worse than low carb...i am so like you thats why i had to respond to your post...days without meat, been there!!! i'd make macoroni, no need for meat, that would be the meal.. i snacked on string cheese and sugar free Jello, i'd make a nice chef salad sometimes for lunch, it had boiled eggs, cheese, turkey, ham...hopefully you get some more ideas! good luck!

opinions on weight loss rate....
thank you guys for the replies, i appreciate them all...each of you in a way sounds like me...and you all seem to be doing great...6 days and counting till surgery...and now i'm feeling really good about it, i think the band will be awesome for me because i'm used to only staying full a short amount of time, even after having a giant meal ahhh to eat one cookie instead of the whole box, sounds amazing and unbelievable! i'll definitely want to get more clarity at my pre op about fills and how often i know they told me and at the time, i'm like yeah yeah yeah 3-4 a year.. i wasn't concerned i'm like surgery first fills later, now i see what a big impact fill have on weight loss... slider foods....AVOID!!! gotcha! TO be Free- i agree completely losing 19 is waaaay better than gaining...and i think i'll appreciate my band the same way, yeah 19 lbs, but where would i (you) have been with out the band! i REALLY want my band to work, and i am going to give it my all, this is the last week of my summer program at my school...and i'm on my pre op low carb diet...oh the things i've had to turn down this week, icecream with my favorite CARAMEL topping, went to dinner last night, Chilies...ah chips and the skillet queso, didn't touch a chip...today end of the program breakfast, honey buns, bagels, muffins...ahhh sipped my protien shake and enjoyed the presentations... i'm pretty darn good with exercise...every "diet" i've ever done i've always done exercise with it so thank you guys so much you've put my mind at ease! i'm in a really good mood now...lol thanks!

opinions on weight loss rate....
i'm being banded in one week....and i've read a few post that are quiet discouraging...just taking so long to find the "sweet spot" or people that are 3 months post op and have lost 6 lbs (ok not that bad) but then others 3 months out who are down 20+lbs....i know every one is different... and i'm not expecting super gastric bypass results... but what do you think besides the typical "everyone is different" answer could be the reason...i have some ideas but i really want the opinions of those who have had a steady 1-2lbs/week loss...and those who are struggling a bit ok i get it, some say you need probably 3+ fills to get to your sweet spot... i wonder about exercise...are the people who are losing more slowly exercising...are the people who are losing more rapidly exercising? do you think initial starting weight has anything to do with it, are higher bmi's losing more initially than those with lower bmi's (i guess lower being the 35-39 people) i am a super power eater...some people power shop...i power eat, i can eat alot...EVERYDAY...6 hotdogs...be hungry 2 hours later, or looking for something sweet to eat...finish an entire pizza alone...and not stay full very long...etc...main point i consumed alot of calories before my pre-op diet, so do you think going from such a high calorie diet, now to the lap band that will help with portion control, would cause a more of a weight loss, than someone who didn't consume as many calories... (i.e. my sister and i weigh the same, i can out eat her any day of the week, so she eats less, but i'm a little more active, so we balance out that way, but do you think the calorie deficit caused by the band has anything to do with how many cals we had come from before and therefore affects the rate of the weight loss....does that make sense? ok i'm taking all opinions!!!! i know the lap band is just a tool to assist us, and its not going to work by itself, it takes a commitment from me as well.... but i just wanna know what keeps the weight coming off steadily, i'm honestly not looking at where i'll be in 3 months, i just wanna feel good about my decision for surgery next summer, like truly be happy with my results...i'll take 1 lbs a week...heck 52/lbs a year...i'll be sexy! thanks

Strange reactions about surgery
LMAO:lol: OMG!!!! 1984 LOL LOL LOL but i like how people think that maybe we haven't tried hard enough!!! that irks me the most! it's like i didn't decided today, you know what, hmmm, i'm fat, let me look into surgery...its like they think we're irrational...i guess cause many people havent been on the journey with us...atkins, 3 day diets, grapefruit diets, ww, low fat, more exercise, now multiply those by 1,000,000 ok thats how many times i've tried all those, its not an impulse its my last resort, trust me, i am scared to death of being put under for the proceedure, i'm more scared of being a very young person with a heart attack, my yo-yo dieting is affecting my health! so yes some of my favorite comments are 1...come walking with me ( cause for some reason, being fat means you've never exercised before, and we've never thought to exercise) 2. i like you the way you are (what!!!!) 3. do you know what your getting into i had a friend/cousin, someone who knew somebody who knew somebody that knew somebody that had it and...... (story ends with results not being good) and usually...um there not even talking about lap band 4. "have you heard of alli my sister says it works well" um yeah alli, phentermine, xenadrin, dexatrim...who ever, been there done that
-
What was the straw that broke the camel's back for you?
ROFLMAO...ok not funny, but i swear i was just doing that about 2 hours ago...looking at some pics from last july...when i was SOOOOOOO fat...um yeah i've gained 58 lbs since then! i remember when the pictures were first taken and i was like OMG my face is so fat...close your eyes, now visualize what 58lbs does to your face! well good luck to you!

Liver Shrink Diet
same here, on low carb for 2 weeks...and i'm taking it really serious, after reading these post...people already given general anesthesia...only to wake up and find no band because liver was too big! OMG....so if doc says diet, then DIET....also from what i've learned see if they require you to lose any weight prior to surgery, thats been a problem too....after reading posts i emailed my doc's office today, she said my doc doesn't have a requirement for me, but i know plenty others from this board that do have a wL requirement...good luck

hey! i'm getting banded on july 24th, day 4 of my pre op low carb diet...dude, its TMI but i've been peeing like crazy! please oh please tell me thats good! i went into lane bryant today to make a payment...usually when i pay $50 on my card, i charge up $200 in the same visit:biggrin:...not today my friends, i'm like psssh if i buy something today it wont fit in a month! oh yeah...i'm optimistic!

require to lose weight before surgery
ok i was not given a requirement for losing weight, but after reading this post i sure did send an email to make sure, and will follow up with a phone call...thats so weird that they wouldn't tell us (you)...i mean i was put on a low carb diet, maybe they just assumed the weight would come off with the diet. ( i'm self pay i don't know if that makes a difference) but i DO NOT want to be cancelled!!!! good luck to you! there's just 20 lbs standing between you and your surgery, i know i say "just" like its easy, but i know coming to these boards keeps me extra motivated...looking at peoples WL tickers and bf and after photos!

WLS is the easy way out!!!!!
:thumbdown:yeah thats what i thought until a month ago! my mentality, all it takes is diet and exercise...and possibly 100 attempts with diet and exercise. i'd lose weight, sometimes fast some times slow, 30 lbs 40 lbs...only to regain sometimes twice the amount now at 288lbs it is honestly easier not to diet, that way my weight stays the same give or take 2-3 lbs instead of the extreme like recently losing 17 gaining 36! my sister told me about lap band...a few of her coworkers had it done...WLS always scared me it was way too drastic, too dangerous, cutting what? putting what where? um no. so that was june 10-ish, so i started looking into it and i was hooked...i think this surgery was designed for me, i just think i'm going to have the most amazing results, because my problem is eating...i can exercise with the best of them, and yeah i'm a weirdo...but i'm hooked on exercise for months at a time, but i get so discouraged when my progress is ruined after one weekend of a binge...so if the lap band will help me with portion control, making better choices, well then gosh darn i can do the rest. i know some people have done months of research, and it sounds like i'm rushing into it, but i don't think i am, because i was totally opposed to weight loss surgery 30 days ago, i've spent 3 weeks online looking into it, i know i can lose weight by myself...but i've seen what happens when i do it by myself...i call myself "yo-yo" i don't expect my band to do all the work for me, and i know even though its not a risky as gastric bypass or any of the others, its' still a surgery, so still very serious. my surgery is scheduled for july 24th, and i've been on my preop diet for 4 days now...i'm excited :biggrin:and scared:eek: at the same time!

hmmm dude ok sounds stupid but i can't freaking tie my shoes!!! dude i was a high school cheeleader, dance team, cross country, and now i can't tie my shoes...are you serious!!! i'm like somethings gotta change...i'd lose 40 pounds gain 60, lose 30 gain 40, recently lost 17 gained 36....now multiply those most recent 3 attempts times 50...and now at 288 lbs, i'm realizing that i need some help...my stomachs too big its soooo hard to tie my shoes...and oh good lord if i'm in class and my pencil/pen hits the floor, yeah its gonna stay there... - What was the straw that broke the camel's back for you?
