a few weeks before my surgery i hinted to some friends i was considering the surgery, um they all said, no don't do it we like you the way you are...wasn't that nice of them (the biggest girl is a size 7, i was a tight 24, in size 26 denial) well heck i got it anyways, i couldn't even tie my shoes, were they serious?! only 3 people know about my surgery, i read too many bad stories on the boards about telling to many people...and this was just private for me, and my life is a freaking open book, i will tell you anything you wanna know, no matter how dark and freaky, lol, but this, this was my secret. like maybe once i reach goal, i'll tell people. so now almost 8 weeks post op down about 27 lbs from my heaviest weight...and i freaking worked for EVERY pound lost, i've been going to the gym, elliptical, treadmill, bike, even some arm weights. i started school at a new campus and it was built on a freaking HILL so just going from class to class is a work out i'm eating more fruit than ive ever had in my lifetime, and i have not had fast food in over 2 months (been out to chilies once with a group of friends) i truly feel like i'm doing the "diet/exercise" that has been preached for weightloss for years, how i've lost weight in the past, watching what i eat and exercising, nothing strange there i have 5.2 cc's in my band after my second fill, restriction is coming along well, then it happened... people started noticing my loss! and here it goes, people wispering wondering how i did it, i'm like i stopped eating late, i eat more fruit, portion control, and i've been exercising, am i lieing? my roommate jumps in an she's like "she goes to the gym EVERYDAY!" <~bless her and it kinda irks me abit, theres a group of 16 of us, were starting a doctoral program together, but one person notices the loss, and then its the new gossip and other start to question it. some don't believe i go to the gym...Really? cause you didn't see me there? wtf? these are the future doctors of america, please be frightened if thats there philosophy. one of the size 5's was like i work out and i haven't lost 27 lbs...ok she's about 111-115 and oh i started at 290. where does she need to lose 27 lbs from? i think what bothers me the most is that when i was working in 2006 i lost 40lbs...and that's when people noticed my lost (yeah they caught me off guard this time i was barely at 30 lost) but it was aggrevating after that, every time i ate something it was "aren't you supposed to be on a diet?, your not on your diet anymore? are you going to the gym today? ok and tons of unsolicited diet advice!!! ok it was like i got this far without you...thanks! well now i have to deal with the rumors...i know i shouldn't care it just bothers me, who cares if i had 5 surgeries, don't try to discredit my hard work waiting to say "oh well she had surgery"

  3. first off...my scale hates me. there i said it. but i was reading a couple posts, and i'm thinking i'm getting tooo few calories...didn't notice till i started writing what i ate down... its been almost 2 weeks with no change in my weight, oh wait...i'm lieing it went up 4 lbs, and now i've lost 2 of the 4 that i gained, i've been to the gym from 30min-1hr for 7 out of 9 days... but then i started tracking my cals that i'm eating...um like 700-900/day. i'm currently going thru posts to see what a good number is, i just don't think 700 is a good number, with or without the band. and now that i have those numbers in perspective, i was burning that much at gym on eliptical (assuming the little calorie thing on the machine was semi-accurate) in an hour ok i may be over dramatic but i feel like i'm giving myself an ED, like i feel like if i eat more my wieghts going to go up? assuming i need an increase in calories, whats a good way to go about it without freaking myself out about eating too much and fyi, would have never guess a few weeks ago i'd be posting about not eating enough!
  4. oh i completely agree...i was disgusted at 250 when it was on the way up, now i'm like OMG i'm almost 250!!!! nice to know i'm not alone its like looking at you pictures when you "thought" you were fat...and start appreciating how good you look in them, pictures i wanted to rip up cause i looked soooooooo fat, now its like, hmmm, i was kinda cute well keep up the good work!
  5. i know i have a long way to go, but i'm concerned about arms as well i went to a support group meeting awhile back and two ladies there had lost 105 & 175 lbs both had the most amazing bodies one was size 6 the other an 8...but arms...gosh, it was like arms are the sign that you've had surgery
  6. I belive I started with a bmi of about 43-ish just banded like urself I'll be 1 month next week, I lost 12 lbs the first week ( plus the 4 I gained during surgery Iv fluids so 16) and have not lost in 2 weeks still going back and forth up 2 lbs down 2.... Stay positive!!!! My first fill is next week, maybe u need a fill! Keep logging ur food, keep building up ur exercise... You are not alone I was actually relieved to read ur story helps me realize I'm not alone either!
  7. Wow!!!!!! Talk about every doc being different!!!!
  8. my docs office gave me 3 fill appt before I had surgery that morning... Theyre 3-4 weeks apart... I also had a small fill during surgery... I feel some restriction now, which is good or I'd be chewing my arm off....hang in there!!!
  9. my shakes are currently my main source of protien... And as I progress in weeks Im supposed to drink less shakes ( due to being able to eat more protien) back to that every doc is different statement LOL
  10. wow! What happened here! Just kidding I read the whole thing it was like the real world meets celebrity fit club. sorry this is a serious thread addressing a serious issue... But if it means anything to anyone, I am scared out of my panties to cheat or eat anything bad, because of this thread, and this forum I'm 2 weeks post op and my sister is like " your still drinking soup"... Ah cause she has a "friend" with the band and she ate whatever... We've all heard it... I woulda followed my docs orders reguardless, but he never gave enough detail into why, I mean you'll hurt ur band, and well that was good enough for me.. From you guys I get to hear the down and dirty, people needing another surgery to fix the damage etc...ok now I'm going back into lurker mode on this thread
  11. thank u guys I do feel better I'm at lunch now, Im having a pudding and soup and everything is going down well... Holy cow I was scared!! Sorry for the freak out Thanks
  12. cause I'm panicking!!! Ok I'm on mushies day 11-30 last night was day 12 and I had some refried Beans with cheese, I added Water to the beans tomake them a little more moist...ok ouch I hurt! Not bad but there's one part on my tummy that was hard to sleep on last night and is sore to the touch...should I call the doc now? Or see how I feel a little later on... Does anyone know what a slip feels like? Thanks!!!
  13. LOL 199 I haven't seen those numbers on a scale since 2001!!! And I thought I was sooooooooo fat, lmao But I think my band, and getting fills can get me as far as I want to go( well eating right of course), I'm going to exercise and I'd like to be toned so I know muscle weighs a little more, my goal is just to be at a "normal weight" like I'm not settling for moving from obese to just overweight I want to take it all the way to "normal" I use the word normal cause I know saying 22-24 bmi won't be accurate if I build muscle, but what ever the category is before overweight is LOL that's where I wanna be...somewhere that I can have a healthy lifestyle I'm no longer at increased risk for disease
  14. wow thanks...oh i know frosted flakes aren't the best...i just wanted to try some different things, i hadn't seen cerial listed anywhere...i appreciate all the advice...um and one bowl of cerial added to my 700-800 cal diet currently is not going to kill me:biggrin: especially compared to my pre-band 6000 calorie days (which may be me underestimating) although its a slider, so is my SF pudding, and yeah that keeps me pretty full...but i'll definately watch it...promise i wont go crazy! and i know if i hit a plateau or have some slow losing along the way, i know the first thing i can cut out! cause i sure will kick them to the curb if they mess with me!!!! LMAO:lol:
  15. oh great... It does the opposite of getting stuck... Booooooo! Hmmm now I have a decision to make... Thank u guys for the info hopefully I'll satisfied with a little and it will help me practice chewing, since everything else has been slurping
  16. oh I thought I was going to fail at losing weight. I've been on so so many diets, I thought maybe I had ruined my body, metabolism, etc from all my yo-yo dieting and that I wouldn't lose try to stay optimistic focus on healing post op.. Do what ur doc requires of you, schedule ur follow ups and fills. Ok I get hungry and I eat what I'm allowed on my liquid diet and I'm fine... Ok I can tell u what I use to eat and what I eat now, and you'd think it was 2 different people... My thing was I could eat and only be full short periods of time 6 carne guisada tacos with cheese and chips and queso... Ah hungry 3 hours later... Now it's like protien shake..... HOURS later yogurt/ Jello  I'm so excited for u! Besides u got all of us here for support and to answer questions, search the forum for ideas on how to spice up ur liquid phase, so u have a variety. Good luck keep us updated!!!!
  17. so I'm having a frosted flakes craving acutally any cereal LOL so wondering if it could be a mushy or is cereal one of those things that gets stuck... I'd rather ask than be my own guinea pig
  18. I don't smoke but when I was talking to the anesthisiologist the morning of my surgery I told him I was nervous, he asked me if I smoked, I said no. Then he said oh you'll be fine,..... So I don't know if it makes a difference when Being put under... And it's not easy to quit smoking... U can't just say oh it's disgusting u should stop.... I've never smoked but I've done research for term papers and stuff I always try to relate to people smoking... Some one could and probably has said the same thing about me and being obese... I.e it's disgusting the people around me and makes me look really bad, heck it's true but it's easier said than done... Just cause I'm fat doesn't mean because today u see me eating French fries doesn't mean I have tried 800 times to lose weight and just cause some one smokes doesn't mean that haven't tried to quit before... Ease up..
  19. LOL guess I shoulda asked, I probably drove to the little store a quater of a mile away on day 2...then drove 5 hours to my moms house on day 4... Holy crap nice to know that was dangerous!!! I felt ok... LOL actually by day 4 waaaay better than the first few days... I'm gonna say see what ur doc says...
  20. holy cow! I'm just gonna say ditto to what everyone else says...yeah every doc is different, but thats extreme! I couldn't help but instantly agree with the poster who said that they just want before and after pics to showoff The doc is preying on the fact that we are overweight and yeah we wanna be thin as of yesterday so I'm sure there are people who follow that advice
  21. Ok first less ur doc have a specific weight loss goal for you preop... I'd call to check even if he/she didn't say.. I messed up ok my diet... Day 10 and 12 of a 14 day preop... And I was sooooo worried about my liver size, call ur doc if u have any questions! I know no one wants thier surgery pushed back but don't wanna be cut open and wake up with no lap band... In my opinion ( and I'm not a doctor, no one just a lady who got a lap band a week ago LOL ) I say get back on track. U had a slip up and I'm sure most people do... Heck there are people with no preop diets at all I think if u keep doing well then well see u back here in 12 days banded ( and complaining about gas and pain like the rest of us!. )
  22. what's with the scale obsession people? We've all dieted before and know weight fluctuates from day to day, hour to hour... Most people here believe the lap band is a tool and it's only here to help...ok so why do those same people ( just a few) freak out when the scale hasn't moved in 3 days?!?!? What diet have people ever been on That makes them think they should lose a pound a day, and that somethings wrong if it hasn't moved... I like to over think things I'm like is it the excitement of the first week that tricks people into expecting those same results forever... Eh just my rant sorry I tried to use very few if any definitive words, it's just a very general post that probably only related to 1% of posters... I just wanna say chill!! Breathe! I think if u wanna weigh everyday 8 times a day fine  but seriously only take to heart the weekly result, for some maybe the monthly result... I'm an obsessive weighing myself person too get a work out like step aerobics getting on and off my scale so many times but now for me only Thursdays go on my little weight loss chart and only Thursday will I update my ticker  ok I'm done rants over!
  23. my doc works with yours I think it's dr benavides lap band solutions!
  24. Ok I'm doing better...I'm almost ready to leave the club But shoulder pain daily! As for losing any weight... Not any since Saturday... I've read a hundred threads that I shouldn't be concerned with loss and I should focus on healing...but I know my body and I'm basically eating NOTHING compared to what I use to eat... So I was expecting a little something, aha! Then I looked at the sodium content of the chicken broth I've been adding to everything!! Holy crap! Ok I've been adding broth to my condensed cream soups instead of water when I blend them and I add extra broth to make them super watery....yeah I should probably be more concerned with my blood pressure and not the scale! I've never seen sodium number like that! One can of soup 1600mg 1 cup of broth 960mg. So my diet is basically water and salt :crying: Ok maybe sodium is the problem, maybe there's no problem at all... I'm trying ( VERY VERY HARD) to not concern myself with numbers on the scale, yet, and ignore post from people who are 11 days post op and think thier weight loss has stopped and are upset cause they lost 9 lBS of IV fluids week one and 2 lBS week two and think the bands broke .... I'm like it's my body adjusting I'm just going to keep doing the right things go for my walks till I can get back in the gym, eat what I'm supposed to, and keep up with fills, I have 3 fill appt scheduled already :tt2: im trying to stay positive, so good luck to all, hopefully we'll all be feeling great soon and the next generation of whiny babies will start up mid august LOL LOL
