Is it common to have headaches during your 2 week pre op liquid diet? My head has been bothering for the past 3 days. I'm on day 6 out of 14.

Yep, could be Keto flu. Google it & see if it’s what you’re experiencing. Plus you’re likely experiencing withdrawals from caffeine, sugar, etc. It does get better.
    Good luck with your surgery.

OMG! I had this exact same thing happen to me! I feel for you!! I was told mine was due to dehydration but they never improved the whole time I was in the hospital on IV hydration. It wasn’t until I got home and crushed up Excedrin Migraine and took it.
Wish you the best of luck!

Thanks, no cheating although I've thought about it several times. I feel I've came too far to mess up now. Thanks again.

Possibly...have you cut out caffeine? It's also possible you need some electrolytes (you should be able to find some without any added sugar or no/low sugar).

I also had a major headache during the liquid diet. I strained some progresso Soups because of their sodium content and just drank the broth. My headache almost entirely went away after that. This could definitely be electrolytes.

Yes, it's very common. It could be "keto flu" as you stop carbs. It should stop soon, as long as you don't "cheat". Feel better soon!

Queen LaShay reacted to lizonaplane in What is the purpose of pre-op diet?
The pre-op diet, whether it's the shakes or just low-carb high Protein is meant to shrink your liver so it's easier to move out of the way during surgery. You don't want your surgeon to have trouble getting around your liver because any damage to the liver could be bad, especially since people who are obese tend to have fatty, damaged livers already. It also makes for a faster, smoother recovery.
It's very important to keep to the diet your surgery center gives you. I've seen posts here where people's surgeries were cancelled because their livers were too enlarged to proceed.

Oh yeah. I forgot about the soap. Then they also made me wipe down again the morning of the surgery even though I used that soap the night before and morning of. LOL

I had to watch a video, they gave me surgical soap to bath with before surgery and I had to sign some papers.

You also usually sign your surgical consent form at this visit-a legal requirement in which they list all the possible things that could possible go wrong.

I remember the surgeon checking if all the required specialist signed off, asking I was still interested in having surgery (some people don’t move forward I guess), confirming the surgery type I want/was eligible for and asked if I had questions.
This might be the last time you’ll see the surgeon before surgery day so definitely ask your questions. They sign off on all the paperwork, then it was sent to insurance for approval.
Once insurance approved everything a nurse or scheduler will call you with potential surgery dates, information on a preop diet and lab requirements.

How about you both get the same coloring book, Mandala ones are great, that you both could color in while chatting then show off the finished product/picture at the end of the call to see how different and creative each of you are? Not sure how long your conversations last but that could be worth it. Then you don't need to buy anything new each week. Only once in a while when the book is full.
Mad Libs? LOVED them as a kid and now do the with my oldest granddaughter. You could each purchase a Mad Lib Book. Would also last a long time without the need to buy something each week.
You talked about books but didn't want a deadline. What if you each just took turns reading a chapter or page to one another? This could also span over several weeks until complete.
    Karaoke? LOL Could be fun.
    Freeze dance.
Memory game. Put a bunch of stuff on a tray and give them so many seconds to memorize them remove something and have them guess what was missing? Or have the write down what they remember.

It’s natural to feel apprehensive right before something major like a life changing surgery. I had mine 6 days ago and I almost cancelled the day before. I feel so much better that this weight is coming off and so will you. Even with that being said…it’s permanent and lifestyle changes will be forced upon you. Every body (literally) is different and drinking Water will just take longer but it will be able to be done, just slower.

    All the best

Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum. Was really hoping to get some advice from those who have been through the gastric sleeve.
A little background. I'm 45, BMI 43, history of arteriosclerosis (2 stents) and T2 diabetes (under control with meds). My cardio has recommended I consider the gastric sleeve and I've been working towards it since end of last year and I am 8 days away now.
I was excited and all ready for it but lately the more I read of some people's experience the more I'm scared, and I am suddenly getting second thoughts. I've been trying to find out more about what to expect after surgery but can't seem to find a good source from people who have actually gone through the surgery, so I'm really hoping you would be willing to help to share your experiences.
Some of the things that are playing on my mind:
    1) How long will we struggle to drink Water? I've read that even after healing completely it may take 15 minutes to drink even half a teacup of water without vommiting, is this true?
    2) I've seen that some people say they will almost always vomit after eating or drinking? Is it really that common?
    3) I am on quite a few meds which my cardio says I need to start the day after the surgery. Will I be able to swallow the meds?
    4) Will we feel tired and impaired due to the limited food and water we can take? I'm on my pre-op liquid diet now and I just feel so weak and hungry, is this the constant feeling to expect after surgery?
    5) I was made to understand from the doc that dumping isn't common for the gastric sleeve, yet I've read quite a number of accounts that say otherwise. Is this something common as well?
    6) I currently do not have GERD, but is this something I should expect to occur after the surgery? I've read some people can't even lie down without getting acid reflux.
I know it is a long post, but I'm really hoping to get some idea of what to expect as the fact it is permanent and (for example) I may be stuck with not being able to even stay hydrated without being nauseous just scares me. Thanks in advance for any advice or help. Cheers.
