I actually saw my shoulder blades move in the mirror and did a double take! I am so used to the layer of back fat obscuring them! I stood there for a few minutes moving my arms and shoulders in amazement! (My husband thought I was strange). 🤷🏼‍♀️

Yes! And felt bones in the back of my neck, on my hip, and even saw ribs in my chest. (Still have tons of excess skin elsewhere, but interesting to see/feel these for the first time).

I have a jawline. It's visible in the mirror and everything. Woohoo!

First and foremost, let me say that weight is NOT an indication of character or worth. You are a worthy, loved, valuable human just because you exist. Your weight is a piece of you, but it is not the whole of you. So take a deep breath and remind yourself that you are NOT your weight, you are YOU. As for the rest of it, I would HIGHLY suggest some counseling prior to surgery. Unraveling some of the emotional stuff tied to eating and weight has been extremely helpful for me. Learning new coping mechanisms and learning to love myself well have been invaluable on this journey. You deserve to be happy and healthy both physically and emotionally. Best of luck to you!

My BMI is 44.9 how bad is that and i weight 288 so defeated and at a loss as to where did i go wrong to get this big i think it was the day when my jeans wouldn't latch, for lack of a better word it really sucks because i am the only one who is obese ( call it what it is ) in my family who are all state troopers and firefighters filled with machismo who think they can do no wrong i have the kind family are typical " do as i say not as i do" the cops especially say this, they forget i changed their diapers and wiped there bottoms so the cant act better than they are not going to find out about my SX they do not deserve to know , i am, a good guy as we ALL ARE i feel so guilty but as time goes by i will come out of it a better man . like i did in the past, take care guys and be good to yourselves because no one else will.

SarahMan80 got a reaction from DaisyAndSunshine in Now thinking if canceling surgery 🥺
I also paid out of pocket. I then got GERD and an upper endoscopy showed that I had a hiatal hernia. I needed a second surgery. I could either get a Linx device put in, have a hiatal hernia surgery or have a bypass. since these surgeries were now medically necessary to fix an issue they were covered. I had the hiatal hernia surgery and paid about $400 total.
Don't let the possibility of a side effect scare you!! Just because the first surgery is not covered does not mean the second won't be. I could have gotten any of the three surgeries covered and went with the one that worked best with my situation. Losing weight over the past 8+ months makes the issues I dealt with more than worth it.
Edit: BTW, OTC medication helped alleviate all the acid reflux symptoms. Then, the reflux was gone immediately after the HH surgery.

Lost 80 pounds in one year (March 2) Feels great, yet feel it should’ve been a lot more Started over 300. I can easily eat 1800 calories (is this normal?!). I see people that say they can’t eat more than 600-800 and that’s definitely not me. I need tips bc I’m only halfway there!

I find myself doing this too…… seeing how much other people eat and knowing that I used to do the same makes me never want to go back to how I was prior to surgery. (Especially because I know I can survive on less.) I’m happy that I can eat the same food….just a way smaller portion size.

I had a small NSV today. I put on a size large t-shirt and it actually fit! This is surprising to me as I am a slow loser and thought it would take longer for this to happen! I've had other victories but this one stuck me as the shirt I tried on has been in my closet for years....and I can finally fit into it!! I can't wait until I shrink into the rest of my clothes!
Many best wishes and small NSV's to you all!

SarahMan80 got a reaction from Liline40 in Self Pay
I am in San Antonio, Tx so I might be a bit far for you.
I went to Dr Cárcamo at South Texas Surgeons and spent $9,900 for my sleeve. Self pay made everything super easy, I was able to schedule my surgery for 2 weeks after my initial appointment. The package includes the surgery, anesthesia, about 24 hours of a hospital care, 2 meetings with a nutritionist and a total of 3 or 4 appointments with the doctor afterwards. They are super nice and always available if I have questions.
I got the sleeve four weeks ago and after the initial post surgery discomfort (not pain) I am feeling fine and about 40 pounds down from when I first walked into the place. I'd recommend them to anyone.

SarahMan80 got a reaction from Dcsjoc in How much weight did you lose per month after 6 months?
Congratulations!! that is an awesome loss!!
    =====================================
My surgery was on 25 Jun 21....my 6 month mark was on Christmas day.
Month 1 start: 251.8 (surgery day)
    Month 2 start: 232.6 (-19.2 pounds)
    Month 3 start: 221.6 (-11 pounds)
    Month 4 start: 212.6 (-9 pounds)
    Month 5 start: 202.0 (-10.6 pounds)
    Month 6 start: 190.4 (-11.6 pounds)
Month 6 end: 188.4 (- 2 pounds [first major stall])
Total lost in my first 6 months was 63.4 pounds. I believe I am a slow loser and that is fine with me. I have had constant heartburn that is currently being taken care of with OTC medication and may need an additional surgery to repair it. It is what it is..... I am just glad that I am no longer obese and that my size 12 jeans are getting loose on me. I've still got 40+ pounds to make it to my goal but I am in no hurry. My high weight was 275 and everything is going the right direction....that is all I care about.

It seems we aren’t alone and many of us are in the same headspace.

when I’m having a ‘positive polly’ day. I pop on some tight clothes, do my hair, put make up on and feel great and remind myself how far I have come. I look back at photos from a year ago and create comparison photos to remind me actually how lucky I am that I have managed to get through this. My health is much better. I am much happier in general….

however we all have those days where we feel a little bloated or chubby. Clothes don’t seem to feel right, we find bits of skin or something we never noticed before that now starts to annoy us and we concentrate so hard on the smaller issues such as that damn scale!! I also crave attention from others to tell me how skinny i am and how great I now look..

i guess the conclusion is —— it doesn’t matter what size you are. What the scale says… or how your clothes fit you. We will ALWAYS find flaws and bits we aren’t happy with. We looked at ‘skinny’ people and longed to be them because from the outside we assumed they were perfectly happy with their bodies.. truth is they had hang ups just like us.. maybe just not as noticeable.
but we will continue to work towards changing our minds.. we changed our bodies and now it’s about learning to live and LOVE our new us…

(can you tell I’m having a positive polly day )

    Start pre-op: 112 kg / 247 lbs
    Surgery: 108 kg / 238 lbs (- 9lbs)
    1 mo: 99 kg / 218 lbs (- 20 lbs)
    2 mo: 93,5 kg / 206 lbs (-12 lbs)
    3 mo: 87 kg / 192 lbs (-14 lbs)
    4 mo: 84 kg / 185 lbs (-7 lbs)
I started at BMI 35 so my weightloss has not been as fast as others, but I'm happy with it.
I'm almost 5 months post-op right now, so I don't have more data. I'm just a few pounds away from a healty BMI and my weightloss has definitely slowed down. I've also been struggling since the holidays. Have been eating more crap than I should. Having trouble getting back on track. Would ideally like to get down to 70 kg, but I can't even remember ever being that weight, so I honestly don't even know if that's a realistic goal.

Keep in mind that everyone's progress is different because of the weight they started at, their BMI, how much they lost already, how much they had to lose total, and other factors. That being said, after 6 months my weight loss went to normal pre-WLS rates of about 5 lbs per month.
