I've lost 95 lbs. I'm exercising and I feel good most days. I don't use oxygen anymore! I've had only 1 knee injection since before the surgery. No spine or shoulder injections,, which I had regularly. I do my walk everyday; even when it hurts and find that at the end of 45 minutes, I don't hurt anymore. I wish I'd done this years ago.

It may not be related to your surgery at all. Could be a stomach ulcer, over production of stomach acid, gall problems, or a hiatal hernia causing the reflux or reflux-like symptoms.
Do you get a bad taste in your mouth, burning in the back of your throat &/or bad hiccups or belching? (Reflux, hernia, excess acid) Do you get cutting pains across your tummy? (Excess acid, ulcer, gall issues)
Hope they find the cause & a solution for you soon.

As mentioned already follow your docs advice 100%. Become a disciplined person and log your food, start working out even if it’s just walking, speak with a psychologist and change your lifestyle - this is the key to success x

The surgery is not bullshit. You just weren’t/aren’t in the right frame of mind to lose weight right now. Like others have said, it is a tool. If you are not disciplined enough to use the tool you will not get the results you want. Don’t get mad at the surgery/process/surgeon……be mad with yourself.
I truly hope you can figure out how to use the this tool to get the results you want….it is not magic after all. You actually have to put in the work.

I guess this may be the case of some programs, that they oversell the success rate. It certainly wasn’t with mine. I went in with eyes wide open. My doc set a goal for me of 165 lbs, which was still overweight according to BMI. I’m maintaining at 140. Although I certainly haven’t been perfect, I followed the program they gave me the vast majority of the time. The longer I did that, the easier those new habits became. This is MAJOR surgery. I went in to it with the mindset that this was my last chance to turn my life around, and if I was going to do something so major by damn I was going to follow the advice of the team I was trusting to operate on me. For anyone struggling I’d advise you to schedule a visit with both your surgeon as well as the psychologist/psychiatrist and nutritionist who provided your clearance pre op.

It sure doesn't sound like you had realistic expectations of WLS, and I'm wondering how you were approved for it.
Instead of cursing your surgery, though, how about investing in some bariatric therapy to help you develop some new attitudes and strategies that will make you happier as you do the hard work we all need to do to lose weight?

Your surgery did work. By your own description, you are not working. You must weigh, measure, and log your intake and follow your nutritionist's and doctor's direction. The surgery does not work on its own, it takes the patient's efforts to make it work.
I recommend that you read some books about WLS and get some bariatric cookbooks and meal-planning books..or you can do your own thing and continue to complain that the surgery is not working.

Thank you for replying. I don't really know anyone in my new state. I meet people at bars/restaurants but nothing amounts to a friendship. I was told pre op that drinking is common post surgery, I guess I never took it seriously. It helps me sleep, I hate the taste.
I was really happy in the 170-175 lb range, even at 190 I was ok. Just by you responding is support. Likeminded people who had the surgery or are going to have the surgery maybe can offer their insight like you. Thank you.

Hi everyone. I have been following this forum since 2018 when I got sleeved but never had the courage to make an account and post. Well, I got the courage today because I feel like my life is spinning out of control. I will try and keep this as short as possible for brevity but I really need some support and encouragement.
I am a male, early 40's who got VSG in 2018. I lost approximately 125 lbs. I was happy, my life changed. I was motivated, more social and felt like I was on top of the world. I got down to 170-175 and felt great. Then, the pandemic hit. Before it hit, my family left my state and moved. Then my father passed during the pandemic and I ended up moving out of state and trying to start my life over. My remaining family lives about 3 hours from me.
I never really had a problem with alcohol until the pandemic and the loss of my dad. I put on about 40 lbs in a year between drinking and eating horribly. I don't think I stretched my sleeve because I can feel restrictions, but the carbs from beer are what's doing it. I just joined a gym, and I stopped drinking a few days ago. I also have an appointment with a therapist.
People say that it's hardest to lose weight after initial weight gain from VSG. I don't really know anyone in my state or town where I moved, so I need to keep myself accountable. I got the courage to sign up. I also am going to do high Protein low carb and see if I have results. I am about 215 right now and I dread seeing people, I am even avoiding seeing my family because of the weight gain.

My surgery is on Aug 16, and my doctor authorized me to be off for 6 weeks. I never imagined being off that long, but honestly, I’m gonna take the full 6 weeks. I’m a first responder, and I do field work in 100 degree weather. Besides that, I know this will be a huge adjustment mentally.

I went back to work 10 days after surgery BUT I work from home and have a desk job. Physically I was fine it was the mental fog that got me.

My doctor's PA made me promise not to weigh until the 5week post op visit. She said otherwise I would break my own heart because weight fluctuates after surgery.

Sister, what's wrong with being high maintenance? You want what you want and that's okay. Besides, as good as you look, how can you embarass your husband? You're strong and beautiful. Own it!

The liquid off Campbell's chicken noodle Soup feels and tastes like heaven. Just dilute it. Also watery cream of wheat with blueberry puree! Good eating. lol
