ShoppGirl got a reaction from Hop_Scotch in Ignored
I am fortunate enough to have the support of my husband and best friend but that is all I told. Between them and this site I feel like I have all the support that I need. I agree that you will not feel ignored on this site if you give it time because this has been the most supportive group of people I have ever known.

i have only been a member for like three weeks now and I am already talking about Constipation with more ease than with my own spouse...and getting helpful responses about it too. And when I messed up and ate food I wasn’t supposed to it was this site that calmed my anxiety that I had ruined everything.

We are all humans but have so much more in common here. If you still feel isolated and ignored consider talking to the therapist for your team. They truly do have a lot to offer during this journey and a big part of it is taking care of your emotional health.

I’m so sorry that this is happening to you. Have you considered a bariatric therapist that is also marriage and family counselor for the both of you. I’m sure there is such a person with the statistics being what they are.

    Hello,
I am new to this site. I am 48 years old, female, 5'2 and current weight is 216. My official weight at doctor's office was 221, however I am ashamed to say that when I knew I was approved, I ate any/everything and my highest was 226. This crazy pre-op liquid diet helped me lose 10 lbs! Side note: Fairlife has the best testing shakes that fit into my pre-op criteria. They are so tasty and do not tasty "diet".
My surgery is tomorrow 3/23 and I am a little nervous but I guess more excited. Tomorrow morning I will ask my daughter to take pictures of me from all angles so that I can compare as I lose weight.

I’ve never talked about, read about or worried about my bowel motions as much as I have since surgery. Lol!! Yes, yoghurt can help. I also added benefibre to my diet every day.
I took a coloxyl tablet if I got to two or three days of no BMs. I didn’t want it to get past that third day: so much harder to get things moving again & not pleasant.
I was very happy when I became more regular again once in maintenance. I was eating more in general & eating more carbs (whole & multigrain only). Do I still get constipated? Yep. Today is two days without action. I’ll take a coloxyl tablet tonight. Sometimes I know why I’m constipated: didn’t have enough Water, didn’t have all my fruit & vegetables. Sometimes I have no idea. ( I have no idea why this time.)

it's the infamous "three week stall". Almost everyone goes through that...if you search it on this site, you'll find something like 17,000 posts on it. And no - I am NOT kidding... Just stick to your program and it will break. It usually lasts 1-3 weeks.

ShoppGirl reacted to Hop_Scotch in Hair loss finally reducing...yay
A little over year since my VSG, Hair loss started about three months later. I have noticed in the past week, that hair loss has substanitally reduced when showering/washing hair, woohoo!
I have fine curly hair and while showering hair loss was about three to four times my usual, I don't think anyone noticed but my hairdresser and me, if anyone did notice they certainly didn't didn't mention it to me.
    Coming into Autumn soon, Hair growth is likely to slow down again due to seaonal changes, but I don't expect that the loss rate will pick up again;

I am pretty far out from surgery and still have bouts w Constipation (7/2018 sleeved)
When it happens I start putting a scoop of miralax in my coffee in the morning and if it doesn’t work the first day it does by the second day. Works for me.

This was a big problem for me right after surgery as well. Now, my routine is benefiber one day, Miralax the next day, benefiber the next, etc. etc. it seems to have done the trick, but I can’t let up....

I am less than 3 weeks post op so I still weigh everyday. I think once I get to maintenance I will switch to once a week (or try to. Lol)

I also had really intense Constipation for the first month after the sleeve. I took Benefiber and stool softeners and drank 90 oz of Water a day, but I still had long bouts of painful constipation (5 days or more).

At my one month check-in with the nutritionist, she told me it was fine to use Milk of Magnesia every other day prophylactically until I started getting more plant fiber in my diet. She also told me to add chia seeds to my Greek yogurt. This worked for that second month and, now 2.5 months out, I am able to eat more veggies and not taking the Milk of Magnesia anymore and am totally regular lol.
TL;DR In my experience, getting enough fiber gets easier every week. Talk to your surgeon or nutritionist about Milk of Magnesia. My nutritionist didn't want people relying on it indefinitely, but was fine with me using it very regularly for a month until I started getting more fiber.

I just talked to the nurse practitioner she thinks I will be okay if I have no pain so far but she I was just way off track on what I should be eating right now which I already realized. I skimmed the page and seen Pasta under soft foods and did not read the DO NOT part. I feel super stupid for misreading it but what’s done is done I guess. I just have to do what I am supposed to do from now on.

Thank you for realizing that I know this was a mistake and offering suggestions and help. I called the dr office and told them how embarrassed I am that I misread and asked if there is anything I can do or do I have to just wait and see. The nurse practitioner is supposed to call me. Hopefully before she leaves today.

ShoppGirl reacted to Blueslily in Any April 2021 surgeries?!
Hello all, hope you all had a good Friday! This site has been very helpful. It's very helpful connecting with people here. This will be a significant support for me during this process as I have not talked with many people in my life about having the surgery. With COVID still alive and well, family would be very concerned about me having a surgery right now. Plus, they are states away. I live here alone, so I'm doing the best I can to prepare as much in advance.
Productive day of cleaning out the pantry of stuff I won't eat ever again or maybe for a few months. I live alone so I don't have any worries about bad or tempting stuff being in the house , lol. Bought a few supplies. Packed my hospital bag. My surgery is not until April 6, but I don't want to spend my final weekend running around. Surgery is on a Tuesday. The weekend before, I want to be home relaxing and nursing my nerves, hahaha
So, I'm doing my prep work this weekend.
    Thanks everyone!

It's so easy to misread .. happy to hear you are ok
My worst..duh. why did I do that.... moment to date was polishing off some left over stew ( stew was TOO textured I was only 6 weeks and I ate it normal pre surgery speed ie FAST!) I did it on auto and it sat like a brick
You know how many times " mindful eating " is plugged everywhere
Definitely a duh what was I thinking mo.ent for me !!!
Fortunately apart from. Discomfort all was OK
BUT I DID GO BACK TO WHOLE liquids AND SLOPPY PUREES FOR 2 DAYS
as an apology to my poor stomach ..just in case!!!!

Hi Everyone! New to the forum. Decided after years of being overweight and uncomfortable in my own body, to finally take care of me. Have had all my pre-op testing. Passed everything with no issues. Hoping to hear from pre-op coordinator on my surgery consult date next week. Would love to get surgery scheduled by the end of April!
Ready for a better, healthier version of me! 😊

Don’t feel stupid! The newbies (which I am still one of) are learning as we go. For the first few weeks I was supposed to take a children’s chewable 2x a day. I read it as I was to take two 2x a day! No wonder I was constipated. You’re not the only one to goof up. It doesn’t ruin the whole process. 🙂

So far is am on just liquids and worried I do not have a warning sign. I definitely get pain when I drink too much but it goes away as quickly as The liquid runs through. This terrifies me as I can’t imagine that pain hanging around as long as food does. Yikes.
