  1. So I talked to another nutritionist today and she has only been working with my dr for 6 momths but was kind of surprised I wouldn’t have a liver shrink diet. I decided that I’m just going to do one week just to be safe. It will be one less thing for me to be anxious about if nothing else.
  2. I had gastric sleeve 3.5 years ago and It went really smoothly. I remember being so super anxious but the best thing I did was to just tell the staff so they were all patient with me and did an excellent job of distracting me throughout the process of getting me prepped. When I got there the first thing they asked me to do was a pregnancy test (urine sample). Turns out I couldn’t pee so they rushed a blood test so no big deal. Then they had me change into a gown and hospital socks and put an iv into my hand. They asked me a bunch of questions about allergies and when I last ate and drank and all that stuff and the anesthesiologist came in and asked some questions about medical history. The surgeon popped in to say hi and then I was off to the operating room. Last thing I remember is them saying to take a couple deep breaths and then I woke up in recovery. I did freak out a bit then because no one told me I would have a nerve block in my stomach which makes it feel impossible to sit up and I wasn’t expecting that when I woke up. Of course the nurses are sitting right there and one explained what was going on right away and I was fine. They had to wait for a room for me so I was in recovery a little longer than normal so they had me up walking while I was still in there. After that I drifted off to sleep again and woke up in my room. Honestly I felt fine. Other than my stomach felt like I had done a bunch of crunches. Not pain, just sore when I tried to sit up. I didn’t have any of the gas pain that some people describe. They were a little concerned that my bladder didn’t wake up quite as quick as they expected so they put a basin in the toilet to measure it and when I did go and said they may have to put in a catheter if I didn’t go soon but I went shortly after and my output was normal So that wasn’t an issue. They gave me little medicine cups to drink water out of and again I was lucky and had no issues drinking small amounts. Then I think it was dinner time they brought a tray with broth and jello if I remember correctly. And crystal light. They brought in my daily meds and I asked them to take me off the pain meds because I didn’t feel I needed them. My husband showed up after work and we took a couple walks and then I went back to sleep. The next day I went home shortly after lunch. The whole time I was there they were pumping me full of fluids via IV. as far as the liver shrink diet mine was pretty lenient. Basically low carb it was a shake for breakfast and lunch and then lean meat and veggies for dinner. One thing I did to make it a little easier was to stop all carbs the week before so I could go through all them carb cravings while I could at least have as much of the other stuff as I wanted. I was also allowed some “free foods” like pickles, lettuce and jello which helped me feel like I was getting something. The dr did tell me afterwards that he could tell that I did a really good job on the liver shrink diet so I guess it really does make a difference for them to make the surgery safer.
  3. I live in the US but here my doctor actually sends the list of what he wants to my PCP asking them to order the labs. If I was you I would run that question by your doctor and explain your reasoning for it. Maybe there is a third option Ike both of them sending their requests to the lab at the same time and the lab eliminating the duplicate tests if they draw blood for both orders on the same day??
  4. Would it be wrong to ask why don’t you come along to my next follow up and discuss this with my doctor because all my labs and his medical expertise say I am perfectly healthy. If you know something he doesn’t I’m sure he would love to hear you out. ? ahhh if only I would have the guts to actually say it. lol Sometimes I seriously think that people actually NEED us to be the heavy friend/daughter/niece/whatever in their life because it makes them feel better about themselves. Whatever their insecurity is they always make themselves feel better by saying at least I’m not obese (I’m not smart or funny or beautiful but at least I’m not as big as so and so). It’s really sad that some people who claim to love you are actually keeping score but unfortunately some are and they would rather keep you down than to deal with their own issues. if they know that the weight loss is intentional and that you are under the care of a physician that should be the end of it. Beyond that the benefit of the doubt that its genuine concern goes out the window. I mean seriously what gives anyone audacity to think that their opinion matters more than your own and that of your medical team.
  5. I am not sure about the hunger if you have teied the above suggestions such as warm tea and broth and that doesn’t help. I would talk to your team about the dizziness though and then you can mention the hunger too.
  6. I did that a long time ago but I do remember you have to be on a computer as opposed to tablet of phone.
  7. I didn’t really know to ask that question at my pre op appointment and I don’t see the surgeon again before surgery day. I do see my primary Dr for pre op clearance so hopefully she will have some answers but I was hoping to get some first hand answers.
  8. Did you have the Sadi or the Ds? I am of course concerned about peeing too but I am more concerned with the other bathroom issues that often come with those particular surgeries.
  9. Okay so I know that one of the side effects of surgery is gas and stinky bowel movements but my dr said that I would need to be near a bathroom. I figured most places I go have a bathroom so I didn’t think much of that until now fhat I am having doubts. Does he mean that I can’t do things like go on road trips or go to theme parks where I may not be able to get into a bathroom at a moments notice? Is it that bad?? What is the problem, exacrly? Do you just have to go more often or is it little to no warning?? I absolutely hate going number two in public restrooms so I know that this is going to be an adjustment for me but I don’t want it to limit my life.
  10. Try not to let some arbitrary numbers be the determining factor if you feel that you are successful or not in all this. I had sleeve 3.5 years ago and several things went wrong along the way to add up to my eventual regain but I honestly think the main reason I failed was because I was so upset with myself that I did not reach the goal my dr had for me that I eventually said screw it and allowed myself to gain it all back (plus some). I was so close though. I am 5’8” and got down to 168 which was 18! Pounds from his hopes for me and a relatively healthy weight that I would be thrilled to be now but I got in the way of my own progress by all or nothing thinking and I let what that scale said or didn’t say be the most important thing in life!! Try to focus on all the non scale victories along the way. I think it was only 10% of weight lost that reduces many of the comorbidities that are brought on by obesity. You are healthier already than when you started all this. Try to celebrate that and all the little victories along the way and keep your focus on the important stuff. This is your journey and you will do great if you stick to your plan and remember it is about your getting healthier and nothing else. Especially not how you compare to others. Just do you and you will be living your best life before you know it. I’m rooting for you.
  11. I am pending a Sadi revision to my sleeve and I know it’s pretty close to DS so I am looking for info from people with knowledge of both surgeries. I have read a couple of people mentioning issues with meds not absorbing properly making it difficult to treat common medical issues. Is this common post SADI or DS?
  12. That’s five pounds a week. That seems great to me!! Just stick to your plan and remember that you didn’t gain it overnight so it won’t come off that way either.
  13. Idk why it doesn’t feel as bad but I can tell you that just a little applesauce wouldn’t be enough for me to take my vitamin either. The best thing I found to take it until several months out when I could eat a little more was a protein shake. Just be sure to take it AFTER you have consumed the ENTIRE shake. I took it after half and even 2/3 and it came right back up. Also, it’s usually the iron in the vitamin that causes the issue so some people have to get one without iron and take their iron separate.
  14. Alot if people substitute plain greek yogurt for the Mayo but I didn’t like that (if you like sour cream you may) so I just used the lower fat Mayo since I wasn’t eating much. Which reminds me, you can also do egg salad. That uses way less Mayo and it’s softer to begin with.
  15. I googled And there are a few more reasons to stay away from caffeine and even decaf to a certain extent. These include the acidity upsetting your new smaller tummy And it interfering with the absorption of certain vitamins and nutrients. And again, there may be more. Just be certain that you are following your teams advise.
  16. How frustrating. Once it recognized you they should have let you restyle your hair and take another one. It’s kinda scary that we are so reliant on technology they don’t know what to do when there is an outlier like that.
  17. My moment this time around was when I seen a picture of myself with all the women during a holiday party. It was so abundantly clear that I wasn’t just the biggest one in the room but I looked absolutely miserable. A time that should be nothing but fun with family and friends and I didn’t even feel like I belonged. I am just not comfortable in my own skin at this size. Then a couple of my labs started creeping up even more and that was the final straw.
  18. Congratulations on your weight loss. I hope your sweating issue has resolved with your being closer to goal. I have question though? Do you recall the name of the rx your dermatologist gave you for sweating? I have a similar issue which I know is exacerbated by my weight but even when I lost weight with the sleeve it was still an issue. It’s horrible to live with. I have seen every specialist and had every test I can think of. My dermatologist gave me oxybutwnin which was great for my bladder but did nothing for the sweating. I would be thrilled to know that thete is another option.
  19. Do you like refried beans? I pretty much lived on those two meals up until I could have eggs and then tuna and chicken salad
  20. What about the ricotta bake? Just do a search on here and you will see a few ways to make it. It’s just basically lasagna without the noodles.
  21. Proffee is just coffee and protein shake. I like mine iced with the premiere protein caramel shake. Someone in another forum just shared with me that the Walmart brand shakes taste just the same as premiere protein and I bought some today but haven’t tried them yet. It’s $1.50 cheaper for 4 so hopefully they are good. ?
  22. As long as you are getting your protein and vitamins you should be fine. I didn’t experience that with my first surgery but mine didn’t work and I’m pending revision. My never been obese husband eats like that though. He thinks of eating as a chore and always has. I tell him all that time that he needs to be studied. I can only imagine it’s an adjustment but I feel like it would be ideal for food to not be the center of my thoughts anymore. Maybe just set a couple alarms to remind you when you get busy to get the necessities in. I do think it will get a little easier though based on what I have seen on here over the past few years.
  23. Congratulations on your loss. At least two of the reasons I have heard that some doctors seem to say steer clear of caffeine is because one it affects healing and two it makes you pee more which is counter productive if you are struggling to hydrate. There could be other reasons too but those are what I have heard.
  24. Well I called again just to be safe. She looked up my BMI and said that the two days will be fine. I guess if three different people said it, even if it was not the dr himself, it should be right. I just get so anxious about medical stuff. I feel like they are so non chalant about things sometimes.
  25. I just read that they make blue light filtering screen covers for laptops and televisions. They sell them on Amazon. Just an FYI. They actually sell TVs with technology that use less blue light now too but they are still a bit more expensive and of course who wants to hang a new tv now a days.
