  1. Sometimes I don’t think they measure portions or ingredients the same as when they calculated those supposed calories. Especially when it comes to unpackaged salad dressing and toppings like cheese or granola. Such small variations can make such a big difference.
  2. Pack a pair of pajama pants and a long phone charging cord. Gowns are open in the back and outlets are sparse. When you get home, rest and allow your body all the time it needs to heal. We are all here to help you but don’t compare yourself to others. Your journey will be very different than mine. Trust the process. It works!!
  3. Yea I’m sure that they wouldn't mind doing it no matter how you described it. I just didn’t ever think about doing it before I seen it done. I mean if it’s too bready, take some out. Duh!! Lol
  4. Okay this is my actual plate.i ate about half the steak and veggies and all the lobster and snow crab
  5. I don’t even know where to start with all this. The whole steak is for me cause hubby doesn’t eat steak and that’s more than enough for two night by itself. Lol
  6. I actually thought butter was a little higher in calories than that. It’s been so long since I have bought real butter. I did find a recipe online that is surprisingly good that is doctored up margarine basically. The red wine vinegar and red onion is another good suggestion though. I will definitely use it as my husband insists that we have surf and turf for every holiday. Guess there are worse things. Lol.
  7. Okay so I just made the sauce and it’s not bad at all. I tried it with steamed veggies cause my hubby is still working on the rest of dinner on the grill. I have to confess I didn’t measure anything because I only needed a smaller portion and didn’t want to bother with the math but now I wish I had so I can replicate it. I do know that I used more garlic and onion than called for but that’s always a matter of taste. Anyways, It’s not drawn butter type of good, of course, but it’s much better than just the melted fake butter I had last time right out of the tub and adding the chicken stock (diluting the margarin) decreases the calories so win-win. My husband likes it a lot. He already asked if I can make it again when we have salmon. If you like garlic and onion flavors i’d say it’s definitely worth trying. I’m sure it would be even better with fresh garlic.
  8. Okay so I have been searching since I posted this and haven’t really found anything better than this recipe so far. I realized that I don’t have any fresh garlic anyways so I am just going to try it with rehydrated “garlic garlic” seasoning and see how it goes. With this one modification it’s pretty low calorie so I am hoping I like it. https://www.wctv.tv/2021/12/20/healthy-chef-ashleys-low-calorie-garlic-butter-sauce/
  9. i try to stay away from olive oil because of the calories but I will have to try the cold sauce another day. I am out of yogurt and don’t like Mayo. But it sounds good, thanks. I did find a recipe online that sorta jazzes up the fake butter I may try for tonight since I have the ingredients.
  10. I am 16 months out and I can comfortably eat about one serving of most things. Not everyone can eat a full serving though. I see people who say there is no way they could eat like a hamburger for instance. I can’t eat a big one like one from a restaurant but I make small burgers at home and I can eat that with a thin roll which seems more than I expected to be able to eat. I also make fish sandwich with those thin rolls and fish filets and I can finish that whole thing. Normally I eat around. 3-4 ounce serving of protein and some veggies and I am done though. I mean I am satisfied and I stop myself but I could eat more if I tried. Or if I have cauliflower pizza I only make one slice but I could probably eat more. I can’t eat a whole salad still for some reason. I mainly eat the toppings off of it with a little bit of lettuce and toss the rest. To sum it up I basically eat the main entree portion of what I used to eat and skip the rest.
  11. I already posted this question on another thread but really need a response for tonight so I will post here too. I used to eat my shellfish with drawn butter but of course that’s out nowadays and last time I had it with melted I can’t believe it’s not butter but it’s just not the same. I am wondering if anyone has a lower calorie buttery seafood sauce that is good on lobster and snow crab legs?? So far I found one online that used I can’t believe it’s not butter, onion, roasted garlic, chicken stock, lemon and seasonings which sounded promising but they roasted the garlic in olive oil which I try to stay away from just cause of the calories. Can I just roast the garlic with some Pam spray maybe?? How do you guys eat seafood post surgery?
  12. Does anyone know a substitute for butter or margarine that is good on shellfish. My husband insisted on lobster AND snow crabs for dinner (plus my steak so we will be eating this meal for a week I guess) but he likes it without anything on it, I don’t. I have the I can’t believe it’s not butter light but wondering if there is something else I should try that is a little better.
  13. Pre surgery I drank a 12 pack of Coke Zero a day. Now, 16 months out I have not had a single one. My team said I am medically cleared to have it but it is associated with weight gain. They still don’t know exactly why the zero calorie beverage causes it but study after study shows the association and that’s enough to have kept me off of it. I like the crystal light. I use two packets to mix it by the gallon at home and have a ziplock bag full of them at all times in my purse. I like that I can switch up the flavors. A newer option is cirkul. Its a drink bottle that they sell flavored cartridges for. My aunt swears the flavors are even better than crystal light. They have their own website or you can get the starter pack at bed bath and beyond. She likes that you can adjust the intensity of the flavor because she likes them with more water. I suppose you can play around with the amount of water you add to crystal light and achieve the same thing though. I also like to mix two flavors together when I mix a gallon to create new flavors.
  14. I wouldn’t stress over it. I have seen enough people who have messed up with worse stuff than berries. Of course don’t have anymore but what’s done is done. Just stick to the plan from here on.
  15. i just realized this is an older post but for anyone else considering surgery I will reply. I was able to lost a significant amount of weight at your age so in part they are correct. Only problem is I put it back on like ten pounds a year on average until I needed this surgery. I did other yo-yo diets in between so it wasn’t a straight line but it averaged about ten a year. My body just wasn’t happy at a lower weight pre surgery and even trying really hard to keep it off I gained. The surgery adjusts your “set point” which makes a new happy weight for your body. A diet doesn’t do that so you are constantly fighting your body.
  16. Even at 800-1000 calories your body will still be in a pretty significant calorie deficit and you will lose. The higher the calories the slower of course. Some programs have calories Even higher than that a little further out. My team didn’t really give a calorie goal. Best to just go by your teams plan for you though. It’s hard but trust the process. It works.
  17. Ooh. Well at least consider trying the clear protein drinks. Hopefully they won’t fill you up as much.
  18. I had sleeve but you do know that the shakes count as liquid too, right? Maybe you should try the clear protein drinks. I don’t think they are as filling as the protein shakes. At least they weren’t for me. I liked premiere protein clear fruit punch but there are so many brands out there.
  19. Glad it was just a dream. Guess you went to sleep a little anxious about your post surgery restrictions. I was a little worried too because I do eat sometimes without thinking at night so I put a towel through the handles on the fridge to remind me. I do this on days I have blood work or surgery and need to fast as well. Just something out of place to get your attention so hopefully you take a second to remember why it’s there.
  20. Yea I know I use a lot more dressing than a serving or two if I don’t measure it. I mostly use the spray pam for cooking but dressing is high calorie too so it adds up quick. If you haven’t tried pam you should try it. You don’t get the oil flavor of course but I have totally gotten used to it now and use it for everything.
  21. I think the fact that like 50% of marriages end in divorce anyways sorta skews our perceptions of surgery as the root of it. Yes you did have surgery but you had like a fifty fifty shot of feeling this way without the surgery. If I remember correctly the rate of divorce increases from 50 to 70% post surgery. I bet a lot of that 20% is probably what we’re already less than ideal marriages but people didn’t have the confidence to leave pre surgery. I believe a good marriage will only get better as one person becomes a healthier and happier version of themselves. Regardless, the thought of ending it with someone you once cared so deeply about is never easy and not a decision to be taken lightly. Obviously only you know if it could help at this point but counseling saved my marriage years ago and now it’s better than I could have imagined. We just needed to learn how to communicate with one another. It sounds so simple but it made such a difference. That being said I went to counseling with my first husband too and the counselor basically told us to just get divorced. Lol.
  22. I have bipolar disorder and WLS hasn’t really decreased the frequency or changed my severe depressive episodes but losing weight has certainly made me happier on regular days. I get out more and am able to enjoy things more outside of those episodes because I feel better about Myself (more comfortable in my own skin). As a result I feel even better at the end of the day having accomplished things. I agree that exercise helps with depression and if you are really depressed even getting outside and just sitting there helps some. They actually make lamps to simulate the sun for treatment of depression and SAD. Yoga Is a great idea.
  23. I agree that it’s not really self sabotage unless you actually intended to harm or sabotage yourself. Don’t beat yourself up, Just try to learn from your mistake and do better today. Have you tried searching for a sugar free or no sugar added alternative? I have found Many sugar free or no sugar added options out there that honestly don’t taste bad. I had sleeve so I don’t have issues with sugar, but I found Yasso Greek yogurt bars that are only 100 calories and satisfy my sweet cravings. They do have some sugar 13g total and 9g added sugars? I am pretty sure that’s quite a bit LESS than regular ice cream though. I don’t have any ice cream to compare it to. Okay I just searched Walmart real quick and it is less than regular ice cream but Klondike makes no sugar added desert bars that have even less. 6g of sugar per bar (11g of sugar alcohol. I’m not sure how that plays into it). Also, Bryers makes no sugar added with 5g sugar and 10g sugar alcohol (salted caramel flavor). I personally like the idea of the bars cause it’s already portioned out for us. Most but Not all products have the nutrition info online so a little research and hopefully you can find an option that will work for you. If you live near a Publix I have found that they tend to carry a wider variety and have more of the healthier options (compared to walmart). Trader Joe’s and Aldi are supposed to be good for healthy options too but I don’t have either of those I am, of course, not advocating that you eat ice cream this early out but i will admit that I tried a few treats just to see if I could eat them once I got to regular food such as chocolate, pizza and pasta. For me it was a mindset thing. Once I knew I could tolerate them in small amounts and eventually have them later it was that much easier to do without them until maintenance. Everyone is different though. All we can do is what we think is best for us. I hope this helps
  24. Arabesque said all I can think of. I will just reiterate that you shouldn’t stock up too much on anything that someone else in your house won’t use, especially shakes because tastes change (especially for sweet things).
