This is the first one I've had since I was banded over a year ago. He asked me what it was made out of when he couldn't find it. I'm like, I don't know....but when I spoke to the nurse at my surgeon's office she said it was made out of something that would be seen during your x-ray. All I know is it hurts to bend over and my stomach is sore and it still hurts in my chest area supposedly from the acid reflux that I had no idea I had and I have no fill in my band so I'm still not sure what's going on. But considering I've had problems with the band from the beginning I shouldn't be too surprised at anything! I think my stomach ate my lap band! Nancy.

Went and had my upper GI today, actually 2, first time started drinking the barium and the machine broke and then drove the hospital to start the thing all over again. Feeling pretty full of barium at the moment.:embaressed_smile: Anyway they saw that I had severe acid reflux but they couldn't find the band, saw the port and the tube but no band. Is that normal? Should I be worried. Naturally stomach pain and worry don't mix well but now I'm worried that the band has eroded into my stomach. I've been unfilled for a few weeks but still feel restriction. Help, thanks Nancy.

I'm having an upper GI tomorrow to see what's causing the pain in my chest area and was wondering if I'll be able to see what's going on? I know they're sticklers about not giving you info as it's being done in a facility not associated with my bariatric surgeon. Thanks Nancy.

Maxxy... I don't think it should keep you from being approved as depression is a physical condition and I've heard many spout that depression and anxiety would go away once banded. Not always the case but supposedly people think it does happen. I know during the psych eval they seem more concerned if you have had suicidal attempts in your past, things in that nature but otherwise it shouldn't affect you. I take meds for anxiety and depression myself as do a lot of people on this forum. Good luck, Nancy.

gadgetlady, I think what offends the left wing are the radio talk shows. I can't see where they're that bothered by TV news programs as there really aren't that many swinging right. I argue all the time with my republican husband about issues but I still will always watch Fox for more objective news program. If I want to see the spin I'll flip to MSNBC or CNN. I registered democrat as many young voters do and have remained a democrat but it doesn't mean I only vote democrat. I just hate to see people be hypocritical about objectivity.

I'm sorry I mentioned CNN before I meant to say MSNBC as being very biased in the liberal direction. I think Keith Olbermann is shamefully biased.

It's funny because I am a registered democrat but I find Fox to be the most unbiased news program out there and I watch as many as I possibly can. Have you ever watched CNN? Talk about bias. I'm also one of those people who won't make up her mind until after the debates are over and we're much closer to the election.

Baycitybandster, I can understand your passion and frustration as I am and have been struggling with my lap band since I was banded over a year ago but to be fair Kat... posted her comment when the original post was in the "successful stories" section and then someone had it moved to the struggling lap bandsters section but as far as I know there was not a "remark" made about that "move" so how would you or anyone know right? You either eat too fast or you don't chew your food to the right consistency and it sits in your new stomach above the band and you end up vomiting it up. It usually hurts and feels like a golf ball in your esophagus. It's different than vomiting the old way as its not digested. A VSG is a vertical sleeve gastrectomy which is listed under the other weightloss surgery section of this forum. Nancy:smile:

I don't know what it is but is there anyway you can get in sooner than 9/22 by putting more pressure on your doctor. I think most of us would be worried by your situation. I am having esophagus issues but because I have "chest pains" due to the esophagus they put me in the hospital over the weekend to rule out the heart. Nancy.

I understand the risk of getting a staph infection and the harm that could cause you but they can't leave that band in you like that for the rest of your life, that part confuses me. Hope you're doing better, Nancy:smile:

I have a little experience with excess skin, lap band and RNY. I was always on the heavy side since childhood and when I was 19 I lost over 100 lbs fairly quickly with the help of drugs that you could get very easily back then but were not done through a prescription. I then gained it back over the course of a year and then the following year lost it again. During those two weight losses I had no extra skin. I then put on about 25lbs became pregnant and had a 9lb11oz baby and stretched out my stomach, gained some weight over a 3 year period and had a 10+lb baby and stretched out my stomach a lot more. So basically even though I lost weight quickly the first two times I had no extra skin and didn't until I had to the two babies. I don't know if it's a quick weight gain then loss that creates the skin, genetics or what but I don't think you can say that with lap band you'll have no extra skin and with RNY you will. I will always have extra skin no matter what. My daughter was a quick gainer of weight prior to her RNY. I think she may have put on an extra 60 lbs fairly quickly at one time so since her surgery she's having extra skin issues and is in her 20s. So maybe it's a quick gain that does it not necessarily a quick loss that guarantees the extra skin or both. Just a thought. It does take more time to recover from RNY as I have been there since my daughter's surgery this past May. There are many more things you have to take in order to supplement your diet basically for the rest of your life. It works, I've heard people can gain back weight after a period of time but not as much as the had lost in the beginning. I personally did have a difficult time letting my daughter go through this as she's my flesh and blood and no one wants their child to go through something this traumatic but then I knew if she didn't she'd be miserable and she chose this surgery over the lap band as she felt it had a better rate of success. I don't know if my issues had that much to do with it as she's a pretty smart cookie and makes up her own mind. Nancy:smile:

I am curious as to various issues regarding complications too. I have been having pains that come and go quickly near the center of my breastbone and also have pain near my port after I eat. I am also somewhat restricted even though I am unfilled. I see the PA at my surgeon's office tomorrow. I just hope I can figure it out as I spent the weekend in the hospital so rule out the heart which was not fun and a waste of time! Let me know if you find out anything and good luck to you, Nancy.:thumbdown: Also the PA at the hospital said you don't have to have feel the acid come up to your throat to have acid damage done to your esophagus. He also mentioned hiatal hernia. So who the heck knows.

Would a public stoning suffice?

I went to the Lap Band site and from what I can tell it says that 25% of people who suffer complications have it removed. The information on that site has changed a lot since I was banded and more information is on there that wasn't there prior. So at least they are better at informing people now which is good. I didn't know if anyone had statistics or where it could be found. I don't know if the "Lap Band" site is really that objective of a place to get the info from, Nancy.
