HealthyLifeStyle got a reaction from isagarza22 in How do you Cope?
I go for a walk or a car ride with my dog.
I go to this website every day. Sometimes to comment but a lot of times I just like to read what others have to say.
I do crosswords. Watch YouTube videos. Listen to music. Read books.
Now that it is finally getting hot, I will be spending a lot of time in my parents pool. They only live 10 minutes away.
I love to organize, label, clean out closets, etc. My hubby doesn't like it when I do it because I am always getting rid of stuff. LOL
For 2 months I raked my entire yard and burned leaves. I have an acre of land and did it all myself. It was very hard work, but I loved it. It kept me busy, gave me exercise and now my yard looks awesome. Now I can to start decorating outside.

I am 9 months out and didn't start eating fruit until 6 months.
When I do, I eat strawberries and blackberries. I cut them up and put them in a bowl. I crush up some raw, unsalted walnuts, and mix it all together with a little bit of lite cool whip. So I am getting my fruit intake but making it also be Protein because of the added walnuts.
I will take a pear and peel the skin off (I can't tolerate the skin) then I cut it up into small pieces, mix it with some raw, unsalted crushed almonds, and put a little bit of honey on it. Sometimes I put it in the microwave for about 20 seconds. It is so delish.
If I eat any nuts at all they are always raw, and unsalted. When I started I counted out 12 as a portion size. Now I count out 20.
I still can't eat that much because I get too full quickly. Just use Portion Control and you will be fine. I use a scale and measure everything I eat.
I am looking forward to eating some peaches and nectarines. The summer is almost here (I live in NH) so better fruits are becoming available. I just have to figure out what I can pair them up with for protein.
I recently started enjoying watermelon with feta cheese (I am part Greek) and love feta. I only eat a small amt. due to the salt, and fat content.
I try to pick one fruit a day for a snack. I plan ahead of what I will eat for the entire day. Like today I had an apple with Peanut Butter for a snack. Sometimes I eat an apple and have some walnuts or almonds on the side.

How many months out are you? I am 9 and if I ate all that you did I would be sick. I still have a hard time eating. Maybe what your eating isn't satisfying your taste buds? I was a huge chocolate lover before the surgery, and ate it every day. Now when I get a craving, I eat a very small handful of dark chocolate chips and it satisfies me, and my craving goes away.

Just focus on one day at a time. Remember that everyone is different and loses at a different pace. The advice on here is excellent, but you can not compare yourself to others. Always check with your docs office if your unsure about anything. Protein is always comes first with your food/meals. If you follow the plan you will succeed.

TY all for the suggestions. I recently tried the Atkins Protein Bar chocolate Peanut Butter. I love it and it hasn't made me have a belly ache. I don't eat them every day. Just a few times a week and so far so good.

HealthyLifeStyle got a reaction from lizonaplane in Maltitol
I have finally discovered what my system does not like and can not handle. It is anything with the ingredient Maltitol. It is a artificial sweetener, and makes me sick, cramping, bloated, and have diarrhea. If anyone is having belly issues, check the things your eating for this ingredient. I had to change my Protein Bars to a different brand, as well as a few other things. Thank you for those of you who brought this to my attention. I appreciate it more than you know. My belly thanks you.

HealthyLifeStyle got a reaction from WanderingHeart in Nutritionist was NO help at all
Just got off the phone with my nutritionist and she didn't help me at all.
For those of you who have been following my posts, you know I had some questions for her.
I asked her if I had to keep drinking 8 cups of Water per day and let her know that I had to cut down to 6 because I get way too full even at this stage (9 months out), and then can't eat, and am losing more weight and can not maintain. Her answer was "Yes you have to drink 8 cups (64 oz.) of water per day".
Then I asked if other liquids count towards the goal. Her answer was, "Yes, and you have to drink 8 cups of water per day also." Well that makes no sense.
I then asked what could I do to gain a few lbs. Her answer was to "drink full fat milk, eat nuts, Peanut Butter or Almond Butter". I told her that I eat those things everyday, but can not drink milk due to lactose intolerance. Then she says, "Ok so eat yogurt, cottage cheese, and cheese". I told her that I can not do that because those things are dairy. So then she tells me to drink whole milk, instead of my almond milk.
By now I am ready to start yelling at her. I know she wasn't paying attention to me.
Then she tells me to eat more often, so I tell her that I already eat 5-6 times a day to which she tells me that I should be eating 5-6 times a day. LOL I give up. WTF lady?
She also told me I should be having more Protein so I tell her about my Constipation issues and that I already eat 90-100 grams of protein a day. I let her know that the doc says I need to cut back a little bit on this, and she tells me that I should be drinking protein water. OMG!! Whatever.
So now I am just going to have to do it my way, and see whatever works for me. I am going to cut back my water intake to 4 cups a day so I am not so full, and hopefully can eat more. I also will cut my protein down. I don't know what else to do at this point. I need to be able to eat more so I can put some weight back on.
Any advice would be wonderful. Thanks

Every doc is different. They all have their way of doing things. My dad had the surgery 5 yrs. ago and he was told that he could never have Pasta or rice. He came with me on my 6 month check up and heard them tell me that I could start eating small portions if I felt up to it. He was mad. LOL I was also told that I could never drink carbonated beverages again, EVER. A lot of people told me that they are allowed to. It is very different for everyone.

I haven't nor will I ever eat fast food again in my life. Not just because of the surgery, but because I know its just bad all the way around. I figure I have gone 9 months without out so I can just keep doing it.

I have been here now for 9 months and honestly don't know what I would do without this group. Most people have been extremely supportive and knowledgeable. I haven't encountered any rude people or rude comments at all. Sometimes I am on here all day commenting, and other days I just read and it makes me feel better. Thank you to everyone on here.

They did not make me do a pre op diet either. I was told not to lose any weight or I wouldn't qualify for the surgery. At the time I weighed 216, at surgery I weighed 205. I had the surgery mainly because I was a bad diabetic. I couldn't lose weight on my own. I also had thyroid issues, and a ton of other medical problems. I had the bypass and my recovery was not easy. I was very sick for the 1st few months. I lost 40 lbs. in the 1st month alone. I couldn't eat anything or even drink Water without being sick. I had to go on a script of nausea Patches that you wear behind your ear. Finally in months 2-3 I could tolerate a small amount of cream of wheat and drink peppermint tea. The months after I had a very hard time eating anything more than a few bites of food. I am still having this problem now. I am 9 months out and down to 130 lbs. and look sickly. I am trying to put some weight back on because I am so skinny. Not trying to scare you, just telling my story. Good Luck

It sucks that some people just can't be supportive. I am close to being 9 months out, and my husband is extremely jealous and trying to be controlling of me especially now that the warm weather is here. He tried to tell me that I wasn't "allowed" to wear shorts. I just laughed and told him I will wear whatever I want. (I never wore them when I was heavy so now he is having a fit). Not that I am going to look like a stripper and wear super short ones, but he is still having a fit over it. I told him that if he doesn't like it, he can divorce me. When I said that, he kinda backed off a little. Now he just grunts at me when I get dressed for the day. Oh well!

I can handle moist meat. Slow cooked chicken that I eat cold is fine. I can't reheat most meats though. Too tough and dry. Other than that, I can tolerate most things except high fat stuff. I tried a bit of chicken skin and dumped so hard on it. But I haven't had any issues with any raw veggies. Salads have been my go to, they go down so smooth!

Hello all. I am 9 months out and still have not gone to a restaurant. Mainly because of Covid. Now that it seems to be getting better, I am still very leery about it. I am so afraid of not being able to find something I am able to eat. I know that most places try to accommodate people with special diets, allergies, etc. but I have never done it before, and a little embarrassed also. I am looking for some advice on what other people do when they go out. How do you discreetly order without saying, No butter, no salt, none of this or that without feeling weird about it? I don't want them to think that I am being "too picky" or a pain in the but. Better yet, I am afraid that my order would still have the stuff I can't eat on it and I would not be eating healthy and the way I am used to.
