I am sorry that you had to go through that. Do you mind if I ask if your friends that have treated you this way are overweight? If so they are probably jealous that you are losing weight and they are having difficulty losing theirs. I always find it funny, too, when people talk about bariatric surgery as cheating. It's like, "I had a health issue and I had a medical procedure done so that I could correct that issue". Is someone with cancer being a cheater if they have surgery to remove a tumor?

Just to make you aware, Fairlife has quite a few different ones and the Refrigerated strawberry version defintely didn't taste that great. The ones that we like are the chocolate and Salted Carmel Fairlife Nutrition shakes.

I have also liked the Pure Protein Shakes as they are also low sugar but high Protein and have a good flavor.

I can finally fit my wedding ring back on! I haven’t worn it in 5+ years!!
Still doing well. I thought I really tweaked a muscle because I was having rough consistent pain in my abdomen. I just laid on my side and let out a huge fart (TMI, sorry!) and now I feel so much better! So I went ahead and took a Gas-X and I’m sipping some Decaf peppermint tea now.

I had my sleeve on 12/7, and I was also thinking about Covid. I decided to go for it since I had been waiting all year, and I figured I’d rather (if I got Covid) fight it at a healthier weight and less co-morbidities than my starting weight. You have valid concerns, and maybe later everyone will be vaccinated. As a side note I received first dose of Covid vaccine on Monday! Whatever you do, take your surgeon’s advice along with others’ advice, and even your gut or intuition and do what’s right for you!!

I am about 10 lbs from goal, so I decided to splurge on some nicer tops since 1- you can only see my tops on my work video conference calls and 2- I don't think I am going to go down another size.
NSV 1: I'm in a freaking MEDIUM! at 5'10 - holy cow!!! And this isn't a "in specific loose cut tops I can squeeze into a medium" - I ordered a bunch of nice work tops and I fit into ALL the mediums.
NSV 2: I bought a pair of knee high boots. They are wide calf, but a narrow wide calf if that makes sense. My legs have always been where I carry a lot of my weight so I've never really been able to wear true knee high boots. They fit perfect (even over pants) and they look GREAT!

Glad to see everyone is doing so great!!
4 days to go and I’m so ready! Keeping myself busy with wrapping gifts and hiding from the kids so that I won’t have to rush and wrap 2 days post op. I did that last year being a couple weeks out from having a baby. Such a bad idea!

I am 9 days (well it’s after midnight, so 10 days now!) post-op and I feel a little better everyday. Walking, drinking, resting. Not losing much yet but I hear that is normal due to all the fluids they pump in you at the hospital. So exciting - a few more days and life will change!!!

    Congrats on your surgery!
It can be pretty common in the first days once you start on Protein Shakes to not really feel full. It's very important to not take that to mean you should drink faster or more in order to feel full. liquids (even Protein shakes) tend to move through the sleeve quickly, so you're not as likely to feel the fullness you were accustomed to.
That will all change as you progress through the diet phases. Even the pureed stage may not give you a feeling of fullness in the same way you knew it, but you will often still be able to tell the difference from how it felt with liquids.
Soft foods was where I first REALLY felt a sense of fullness, and it was a much different feeling that took me offguard, and made me realize I needed to stop eating, even though I still have come food on my plate.
And almost everyone agrees is that when you get to solid foods, you will know when you're full and that it will happen quickly, as the solid foods will linger in your sleeve longer as it digests. It's not uncommon to go from being able to eat 4 ounces of soft foods to only a couple of ounce of solid food at first.
I, personally, will always portion out about 4 ounces of food as my goal, but always listen to my body and finish the meal as soon as I can feel that sensation that tells me "this is what full feels like now".
You're already doing great and I hope that you are healing well!

At my last followup visit with my surgeon I had lost 103% of my excess body weight. He was so impressed. I have lost 53% of my highest recorded weight from 5 yrs ago. I did the diet roller coaster for yrs before having my RNY gastric bypass. WLS works if you do the work! It truly is a lifestyle change.

"Bariatric Surgery is probably one of the most effective interventions in health care."
    - Laurie K. Twells, clinical epidemiologist at Memorial University of Newfoundland [2]
Are you lurking on these forums debating whether or not you should have surgery? Unsure about making a permanent change to your lifestyle and body, or thinking that since you lost x number of lbs before, you can do it again? Heard about all the horror stories of complications and regain? This was me, one year ago. I want to tell you about the study that changed my mind.
This study[1] looked at three groups: 418 patients who sought and underwent Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (surgery group), 417 patients who sought but did not undergo surgery (primarily for insurance reasons) (nonsurgery group 1), and 321 patients who did not seek surgery (nonsurgery group 2). They performed clinical examinations at baseline and at 2 years, 6 years, and 12 years to ascertain the presence of type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and dyslipidemia.
Let me highlight a couple images from their study. These charts graph the amount patients lost as a percentage of total weight (NOT excess weight) at 2, 6, and 12 years relative to their baseline. First, this graph is the individuals who did not seek surgery.

This group lost only 0.9% of their total weight 12 years after the study began. Those empty triangles? Those are people who ended up getting bariatric surgery anyways. Lets look at the second group, people tho sought out surgery but couldn't get it. So at least we are aware that this group is invested in losing weight.

This group fared slightly better, as patients lost a mean of 2% of their body weight at 12 years out. This excludes patients who got surgery (they lost an average of 10%). Lets look at patients who did get the surgery.

Patients lost an average of 26% of their total body weight even after 12 years. I found this difference absolutely remarkable. To reach that average 26% body weight loss without surgery, you would need to be in the top 5-10% of losers. Think about that.
I used to see getting the surgery as an admission of my own personal failure at willpower and dieting. But this study makes it clear that the probability of success for non-surgical options is astoundingly low relative to bariatric surgery. Studies [3], [4], [5] reinforce the positive impact on health that bariatric surgery has on patients who choose to go through with it. Reading these helped put my mind at ease. Bariatric surgery is one of the best decisions I could make for my health.
I encourage you to skim through the studies to see other benefits I didn't outline here. The NYT[2] article is also a great read for seeing why bariatric surgery is so effective. It distills a lot of the studies into facts that you can use to arm yourself when speaking with family and friends who aren't supportive.

Congratulations on making it through surgery.
Stay focused and stay on plan.
In the first few months its almost impossible not to lose weight. Whether you stay on plan or not, whatever you do you are getting the feedback of losing weight. You are building what will be your new habits. Make sure they are the right habits. You will need them.
    Good luck,

I started my pre op liquid diet almost 2 weeks ago. I did pretty good, I cheated twice, having a subway sandwich one day for lunch. And another night I had a oriental chicken salad for dinner. Other than that. I tried my best to stick with it, and on surgery day I was down a total of 16 lbs in a week. I had my surgery Oct 29th 202p. I'm currently on day 4 of post op. The 2nd and 3rd day of was feeling very overwhelmed. Emotional. Was wondering if I made the worst decision of my life. The pain I felt was mainly from the air and gas, omg that was horrible. But here on day 4, I don't really have too much pain, except where my drain currently is, and only sometimes. I get it taken out on a couple days. But I'm starting to not feel as emotional, glad I have my mom here to help me out as I am a single mother of 3 kids. Without her, lord I couldn't of done it this far. I'm starting to feel alone better about the decision I made. I'm on my liquid diet right now, and I haven't really thought about food, the only thing I want to do more than anything is GUZZLE a glass of Water !!! Lol. Taking small sips throughout the whole day helps I suppose. LOL I just feel so thirsty. I am glad I found this support forum, I love reading everyone's journey, and I'm glad to be here !

I was sleeved 7 years ago and regained all the weight. I maintained my weight loss for 5 years and then over a 2.5yr period I gained it all back. I am now scheduled to have a revision surgery. I feel a lot of shame about regaining, which I am now learning isn't helpful. What I have learn't from regaining is that I have an addiction to food. For me to be successful going forward I need to focus on what motivates me to overeat, and come at the problem from a psychological perspective. Despite everyone saying that you need to work on your head, after my surgery I thought I would never regain and I could get away with not looking at how I became morbidly obese in the first place. I don't know what is happening for you, but if you haven't already I would possibly look into Overeaters Anonymous or seeking help from a therapist, plus a dietician.

I'm so sorry!! I'm sure there are some Vets that will have much more insight and advice than I do, but the first thing I would do is eliminate soda immediately. Soda is crack to me, and is also a gateway drug that leads to more and more unhealthy eating. I was addicted to soda for many years, and used soda to wash down many sugary treats and well as fast food.
If you don't like plain Water, try crystal light or gatorade zero. I've promised myself that no matter what happens in my life, I will never have soda again. Much like an alcoholic or drug addict can't have "just a little" I know that I can never have soda again, nor do I want to.
    Lots of HUGS!!!
