  1. I would like to request again, that when you ask for prices, you ask what the price is for those who were banded in Mexico. I have called pretty much every one of the phone numbers suggested here, and not one would do a fill for me under $200, none. Im guessing this is the price if you were banded by a doctor within their circle or whatever, its not a price the rest of us could get.
  2. I cant imagine not being able to finish the bag of popcorn, its my weakness. I could finish several bags. I have a hard time eating one and not continuing to nibble. I dont have the kind of restriction I had hoped for and hear about and my fill doctor says Im as full as she can get me. I have yet to have any trouble eating a bag of 100 calorie popcorn!!!! lmao. I got 4 boxes at costco, they had a coupon on it. great deal and you get 42 to the box.
  3. Has anyone heard that the 100 calorie bags of popcorn are really more calories, and the 100 calories is unpopped or some such way they measure? I was losing just fine until I added 100 calorie bags of popcorn. (I can eat it just fine).
  4. Both my parents are too skinny. In fact my Dad had to have a feeding tube for a year that was recently removed and he fights to push himself to eat enough to maintain his weight. Feels like he will throw up if he eats. My mom is too skinny too. They used to be so proud of how they were so skinny and both are totally clueless that I love to eat and why. They really just dont get it. Iv been walking about 7 miles a day and watching what I eat and after 3 weeks iv only dropped 1 lb. I said something and my Dad grinned like it was a big joke and said "you just eat too much". Two weeks ago he asked me if I was still on my diet and losing. My mom isnt much better, just says she has learned to not say anything to me. .... of course my sister told me that mom told her to watch it or she would get like me. (that hurts) and my mom sees nothing wrong with saying stuff like that, what it says about how she sees me, thinks its ok, just stating facts and trying to motivate my sister. I can tell you by the time I was a teen, controlling my food and food was a big issue with me because of my mom. parents dont realize what they do to their children ... all in the name of "im only trying to help". .... lets not even go into friends trying to help by telling me when Im gaining weight .... as if I dont know?
  5. Iv found it is probably less effective than say phen fen was, or any diet pill in the past. Its just to curb your appetite, nothing else. I dont think folks understand that part sometimes. You still have to eat the right foods and exercise, it just helps me with the snacking somewhat, but its hard for me, for some it seems easy. I think its easier if you were overeating before, it helps you cut down and you cant eat as much, but I was a grazer, and it doesnt help as much with that. On average from the tickers I have seen, I decided that it looked to me like a lot of folks lost 100 lbs in a year. So, if you have more you want to lose, it might not happen in a year.
  6. I have apples, had one just yesterday. I also eat almonds as part of my snack at night, but not over 100 calories of nuts at a time. almonds are especially good for diets imo. Im following a low gi diet, and both of those are on my diet. ..... of course since OP has lost more than I have, maybe she should be telling us!!! I do eat Snacks. Fruit is the one food that I have a little trouble with eating, kinda gets stuck, so I usually dont eat too much. Fresh pineapple seems to be the worst to chew up.
  7. I try and take two capsules, but they are so large, they get stuck with my band, so Im not the best about taking them. Every day that goes by and the scales dont move, I have to try and not give up and start cheating with Snacks. I NEED to lose more to get into a cruise dress. For me its only into 3 weeks with no loss, but thats the first time I just stopping losing when Im trying so darn hard.
  8. New hair cut this week, folks say I look like a different person. Got some dressier pant suits so I am not hiding under a large tee shirt all the time now. Still comfortable stuff. Going on cruises and planning to be more active. Iv kinda hit a plateau, into my 3rd week at this weight, hoping I lose more, that this isnt it.
  9. I think there is another place in Dallas that is $9,995.00, so that price to me isnt that great. I guess they decided to get a little more competitive. I live in Dallas and flew to El Paso and went over the border to save more $$$. Iv seen the same commercial ..... if nothing else maybe it gets folks to researching getting a lapband.
  10. I was self pay, and so I examed myself. I still am not sure how much the lapband has helped my appetite or not. I did it because I was very close to full blown diabetes and have no insurance, so I knew I had to do whatever to turn things around. Its going to be harder if you have to battle insulin out of control, because that put on a lot of my extra weight, not just food, but wrong food. So, the only way to succeed is to also pretty much start eating better foods, not just how much. Good luck. Its up to you how well you do. I wanted to live longer too.
  11. I read here about not having coffee, so I cut back to half and half decaf, and then went back to it. My doctor never said dont drink it, so I figured why give it up just because folks on here posted they did. I hear it might increase your appetite .... Ill overcome, not the biggest deal.
  12. Yep, I can eat them all, but the green part of the sushi, the seaweed wrap is a little hard for me to chew up and get down sometimes. We still go get tacos, no way would I be able to give them up. Just had some of the 100 calorie popcorn, but it does slow down my weight loss.
  13. I still eat subs from subway. Some people I heard have trouble with bread, not me. I have trouble a little with fruit though. I havent given up anything. I do try more moderation of Snacks now.
  14. I stay away from any carbonation since I was told it could cause my lapband to slip. Drinking booze, is empty calories and will impede your progress, but wouldnt hurt you the same way. Any empty calories are bad, even popcorn lol. I dont put booze in any special no no category in moderation.
  15. For those insulin resistant (pre diabetes). I was surprised that the doctor on sunday morning on FOX mentioned Alpha Lipoic Acid. I had read up on it and seem to lose better when I make myself take it. These are larger capsules than before and harder to get down and I am terrible about taking pills. Try adding alpha lipoic acid which helps to control your blood sugar and insulin surges and Omega, both will help you lose better. Germany makes you get a prescription for it, but here in the U.S. it is sold over the counter in health food stores. Foreign studies can be found online proving that it helps control your blood sugar levels. Not much in the U.S. has been done. Iv been told there is no money in having a study for a drug sold OTC.
  16. I called them too, they wouldnt fill my band I got in Mexico. Just count yourself lucky that you found someone for $100 that will fill you. I think I have called everyone within 100 miles of my house. Dr. Maese wouldnt give me my first fill for 90 days after I got my band, but he would be ok to transfer to now, but I like Dr. Stephanie. Good luck, I hope a new fill is going to do the trick for you.
  17. I'm with you. I had tried everything, ... because I didnt realize you could buy Miralax now over the counter. Last time I got it from a prescription. To those suggesting using something else, if you have a real problem like some of us, nothing works as well as Miralax. It regulates your system to be normal. Once you try Miralax you wouldn't go back to other things. Miralax also doesnt clump like benefiber. Just one more little plus for miralax.
  18. Hey, come with us. I am coming to see NYC and staying in Manhattan before a cruise. Im doing 3 days in NYC and the 5 day QM2. I bought 2 formals. I hear they get totally decked out on the QM2. I think I might hit right below 140 lbs by the time this cruise leaves on July 1st. We have a black and white ball the 2nd night and a red white and blue ball the 4th night and see the fireworks in Boston Harbor on July 4th. Im not sure I will look "fabulous", but Im certainly going to look better than I did the same time a year before. Come along, and you can look fabulous for this July 4th weekend. You dont even have to fly there. Maybe we can both meet husbands and cross that off our lists too!!!
  19. Debbie, I know this isnt the same reason, but I took a cruise the end of January and got indigestion ...BAD. I started having a ice cream cone every time the gas got bad. Burning gas and I gained 5 lbs in 5 days and got home and still had the gas. Wound up doing 3 kinds of stuff for the gas for the next 3 - 4 weeks and finally got it back under control. .... meanwhile I had to force myself to start walking again, I was lazy during my cruise. Start walking to get the weight back off. When I first started to walk, I wasnt sure I could, so I walked around the building, then the complex, finally around a short block, then a bigger block. Im now doing over 3 miles twice a day, but I started small. People on another board, one say "you lose weight easy" and another "you are lucky to lose so easy". Yea so easy, I just love pushing myself out the door and walking 7 - 10 miles a day. Im 58 and no one my age loses easy if you ask me. The trick when you gain suddenly is to get right back after it and it will come off easier than new weight loss in new territory.
  20. Hi, Capitol Chick, another July butterfly here. I have gotten all my fills under fluro. My fill doctor starts showing me all my innards and I can hardly stand it. I have almost fainted all 3 times. She wants me to see how slow the barium drips down to my stomach so I can see how tight I am and my port and you can even see yourself breath which sort of puts me into a panic.
  21. I dont think until you have proper restriction you will have much limit to what you eat. I still can eat more than a lot here say they eat at a time. Iv had 3 fills and as tight as they will allow me to be. I only have real trouble if I eat fruit. Different people will have trouble with different foods getting stuck once you are tight. If you were banded that recently, Im just guessing you cant be totally restricted yet, so yes, you can eat as much as you want. Im not a binger, but I can put away a full meal on a cruise at dinner. Thats sure more than some here say they eat. The band may slow you down, but its not going to totally ever stop you from eating more. I get up and walk around until I burp a little and the feeling passes and then I can eat more.
  22. I read posts where the women say the Water makes them feel full so they eat less. Crystal lite should make you feel just as full and still has zero calories? costco has the 24 case of green tea on sale until March 1st and I got some of the mixed berry green tea. The tea is actually a diruretic and so gets rid of some water weight, so I was actually a little less the next morning after drinking some as a late night snack. (yes I know the weight loss was temporary). 165 lbs still looked good the next morning. Im about 7 1/2 months after surgery. Had the surgery July 9th last summer. I know some that are hitting their 100 lbs down by 8 months in, but I have a bunch of cruises, and always gain when I cruise, then have to relose, so Im a little behind some folks, but doing ok to me without drinking water. Just aint going to happen. I got enough things Im denying myself, something zero calories like flavored teas isnt going to be one. I also like the diet snapple oolong tea. Iced tea is my new treat.
  23. I think unless you are on a prolonged liquid diet, you will lose slowly. Liquid diets have fewer calories and many mushy foods are higher calorie, such as adding mayo to your chicken to make them mushy. ... at least that's what I told myself. A big month is 10 lbs, steady, unless I have a cruise or special outings, such as in a few weeks Im going to a out of town wedding and 3 days on the road and not getting in my walking will obviously set me back that week. My aunts pies arent known to help with weight loss, so I know during those times I will not lose, and try not to gain. slow and steady wins the race. I see many who were banded around when I was who are already down over 100 lbs and try not to get upset. Comparing yourself to the best losers wouldnt make you feel better, just as long as you are losing. If I am walking every day I dont plateau.
  24. I dont drink Water. I have not had one whole glass of water since I started this. Iv tried on other diets to drink water, which I dislike, and never seen any improvement, so this time Im not even trying. I do drink flavored water, even Fiber water from special K or southbeach for instance or crystal lite or ice tea, but not plain water. There have been recent studies that dont show it helps with weight loss. When I read those, I was like whew!!! let's me off that one, so now I just try and get in my liquids that I enjoy and have no calories.
  25. I personally thought the Sleeve might be the best choice. I was never tempted by by-pass. The seminar I went to, the ONLY reason many switched over to by-pass was because insurance didnt yet cover the sleeve, but covered by-pass. You might look a little more at the Sleeve. Its been around for a long time for cancer, but only about 5 years here as a WLS.
