This is exactly what I did. I took control of the narrative from the get go. I've found being super open about it means less people can gossip because everyone already knows what's happening. And everyone has been crazy supportive.

I was straight up and just told everyone what I was doing and after everything was out on the table I actually had allot of support

I've embraced talking about the surgery AS PART of a lifestyle change. I've actually had a few coworkers pursue the surgery after seeing my success with it.
I'm not sure why some are so ashamed to discuss surgery. I see it as an opportunity to better educate people and perhaps help a few with their own struggles along the way. No shame in my game.

Even great doctors can have some really crappy people skills. You should be VERY proud of yourself for being able to walk two miles. Holy cow...I had my surgery done on Monday and I can barely make it out of bed to walk in little circles and use the bathroom. He may be one of those people with black-and-white thinking: either you're going completely by his playbook or you're WRONG! He may just one of those people who's impossible to impress.

You: Hey, doc! So I just got accepted into the Olympics, found out I was the world's fastest runner, and I'm going to be featured on a box of WHEATIES!
Doctor: Yeah, OK...but I see you only drank 63 ounces of Water yesterday. I TOLD YOU 64!!!!

I just told my hubby I wish Willy Wonka would have made a low carb high Protein all day chew that had a pizza changing to Big Mac changing to cheese cake hard candy!!!! LOL. My mouth just wants to chew some real food!!!! I see the Dr tomorrow for my two week check up and praying for regular food in a blender because I am tired of drinking my meals
I think as adult humans we just desire chewing our food. Remember pop rocks as a kid and the anticipation of the snap and pop in your mouth, there is just something about the feel of the food as well as the taste.

Happy holidays! Congratulations on your surgery - sounds like we have had similar experiences. Thank you for the Soup suggestion, I have sent one of my daughters to pick some up today!

So over sweet tasting things. I’ve gotten my first shake down for the day but bleh, was it gross.

I almost never complain like this - I’m known to be an optimist to the point of annoyance to friends and family alike, but this is really hard. I had a relative suggest I’d taken the easy way out and they really don’t know what they’re saying!!

We will get through. It’s so comforting to read accounts of people further along who are now eating real foods and sticking with their goals. We will be ok!

Hello there, folks! I'm writing because I'm feeling nervous and chatty. My RNY surgery is tomorrow morning, and I'm sucking down some Bone Broth and trying to stay sane. I was wondering if there were any folks out there who are prior military? For those of you who are, you may know that extra weight has brought with it a special kind of shame. For me, it shorted my career. Even before that, as I struggled periodically with my weight, I always felt that I was being scrutinized in my uniform for not being the "model soldier". Even when I passed my PT tests with flying colors, there is nothing particularly pretty with seeing someone running in those horrible Army PT uniforms. If you have any jiggle, everyone will SEE it!
Anyhow, I just wanted to see if anyone may have a shared experience with being in the military and struggling with weight. Five years after I've hung up the uniform, I'm still dealing with the shame, and I want to see how others may have gotten past it.

You look ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!! You look slender, fit, and toned.
But I 100% understand where you're coming from. In the past, I lost a lot of weight with WW and was still horrified to have my picture taken. I look back on those pictures now and I don't know what I was thinking. I looked great! I'm sure others around me also thought so too. But there's still a part of us that just can't see what others are seeing. We walk around with those fat goggles on and judge ourselves to death, not letting ourselves enjoy a single victory. I learned from that experience, though. I've learned that my self-perception will be faulty, so I should just trust how good I feel inside and what my wonderful body can do, and ignore the self-sabotaging little voice I hear when looking in the mirror. Because that little voice lies.

I am allowed deli meat at this stage, so I took a piece of thin smoked turkey and spread some hummus on it rolled up. I also did what others are saying....just ate it with a spoon:)

I love chicken pad Thai so much, but I haven't had it in months. I used to eat a full order in a sitting at least once a week. Last night i asked if they could replace the rice noodles with bean sprouts and ate 1/4th of an order (about 1 cup). My husband's full order is included for comparison. It was amazing!

It might sound crazy, but I intend to eat it with a spoon! Once we're able to tolerate more solid foods, I'm interested in making this Indian flatbread to have with it:
