That's a good idea. I just added sugar free jello to the grocery list for tonight. Fingers crossed.

mattk53 reacted to Uomograsso in Half the person I used to be
Hit a pretty awesome goal. When I started out in July of 2019 and decided to have WLS, I weighed 427 lbs. My last weekly weigh in I was 212.2. That means I am officially half the person I used to be. On another note, I am now officially overweight! You might ask why that is a good thing. I have spent almost all of my adult life with a BMI that put me in the obese category, but now with my weight loss my BMI is 29.6 which is considered overweight. When I started out my BMI was 60. My surgeon required me to get my BMI to 50 before the surgery so I lost 92 lbs between July 2019 and January 2020 and my BMI was about 48 at the time of my surgery. After surgery I have lost another 123 lbs. No secret, just follow your plan. Eat you Protein first, meet your daily protein goals, exercise, exercise, exercise. I am doing a minimum of 30 minutes 5 days a week and usually shooting for 60 minutes daily of intense exercise. My only regret is that I didn't have WLS years earlier.

    Welcome back.
I understand your pain and frustration. You are well on the road to getting and staying on track by taking an inventory of your mistakes. Keep up the good work.
We all have our methods for keeping ourselves on our path, and while we may each be different in the details, the path is the same: To do what we need to do to get/keep ourselves healthy.
We are here to support you in any way we can.
Yeah, another on the list of things that can become problems.
Many of these things often begin with "just this time." If we can manage "just this time" and it really is just this time, no harm no foul. We just need to be careful that it doesn't become "just one more time", then "just this week", until you stop thinking about it.
It's never too late to return to your successful habits. You can do it. Really.
    Good luck.

Update - I have lost 3lbs. since my post last week. The 2 biggest things that have helped me get back on track is observing the 15 minutes before/30 minutes after meal rule for liquids and tracking all of my food on MyFitnessPal. Exercise is next on my to do list now that I've gotten the food situation under control.

I did it about 10-12 years ago. I lost 70 pounds and loved it. I tried it again about 5 years later doing the same dam program and didn't lose jack! I don't know why it worked so well one time then not at all the next. I guess because I was five years older. Metabolism and all.

I had posted this on the WLS Veterans forum, but thought it would be a good idea to post this on this forum as well.
I had gastric bypass surgery 5 years ago. I was incredibly determined and managed to lose 180 lbs. in a year's time. I'm 5' 9.5" and I went from a size 28 to a size 10. Now, I've regained a lot of weight and I'm starting over. I thought it might be helpful to list the steps that caused my weight gain. My goal is to tackle these 6 and starting moving in the right direction. Does anyone else have additional things that contributed to regaining weight?
Stop weighing yourself Stop tracking your food intake Stop exercising Drink liquids with meals and ignore the 15 minutes before/30 minutes after rule Start eating your old favorite foods Stop visiting Bariatric Pal forums

I drove 5 days after post op. Just be sure to don't drive after taking pain meds. I could have driven probably a day or two earlier, I just didn't have to. I have a desk job so I would have been ok to go back to work 3 days after surgery. Also I've always been a fast healer.

It's a story as old as time...
First you look, just a quick look which turns into a long, langorous gaze, taking in every curve...
Then, you just must touch. Just a little touch. Before you know it, you're holding it, caressing the peperoni...
Next thing you know, you are waking up in a gutter with pizza stains on your cuff, wondering where your weekend went.
Nine months later, a pizza delivery guy shows up at your door with a package...

I cannot recommend this cookbook enough! My husband bought it for me and it has been immensely helpful with recipes from the liquids to the regular food stage. It has a number of smoothie recipes that are tasty and get you plenty of Protein. I'm moving to pureed soon and I'll use the recipes for the pureed stage as well. Totally worthwhile purchase!

Mandatory Disclaimer: Everyone loses at different rates! Keep in mind people's starting weight, how much they lost prior to surgery, height, age and gender.
    Starting weight: 235 (BMI 43.0)
Surgery date weight (after 2wk pre-op diet): 223.2
After 7 months of weight loss phase: 127 (BMI 23.2)
Sooo…including the 2wk pre-op diet, that would be 108 lbs lost over 7.5 months giving a monthly average weight loss of 14.4 lbs per month.
Edited to add: I lost a few more pounds unintentionally during maintenance, gained a few back, and currently sit around 115-117 (BMI 21-21.4). I’ll be 2 years out next month. I'm 5'2".

Yes, I had friends tell me "it doesn't work' or "I know a guy........." It took me 15 months from my first visit with my surgeon to my surgery date, So it is a process, but it was worth it. I'm down 127 pounds as of today. In my limited opinion all the problems were overblown.

Vegetables and meat....... right isn't that still the plan? It would be hard for me to give up the carbs like fried rice, wontons or noodles. That's why I haven't been to chinese food and yes a egg roll would be a no no. I think I would get a broccoli beef dish or something along those lines . Also watch the sauces with lots of sugar too. Enjoy your last go around.
