    Miss215 got a reaction from catwoman7 in 2-1/2 weeks post-VSG - zero appetite? Help!
I’m honestly hoping I never get hungry again lol. Persistent hunger is what landed me to needing surgery anyway! 😩 I’m only a week post-op,and definitely not hungry at all, but I miss the ACT of eating so much, so in my mind I’m equating that to being hungry.

Depending on how thin you make them they can be either purée or soft food. I make mine with fat free milk and some salsa and I just add more milk so they are a little funnier until soft food stage. It worked great for me the first time. I’m doing a pouch reboot right now so I am on all liquids again after 6yrs.

Since I'm about 10 days away from a bypass I'd love to hear from the Veteran Bypassers but of course Sleevers too as I know it's not THAT different.
I think what keeps me awake at night is the LOSS of the joy I receive celebrating with food or splurging as a Foodie with my husband (naturally trim) or the joy of treats with my children. I don't need the speech about finding joy in other things. I get that. And I know food has been an anchor to me for many years now. A burden. But I do also get great joy from it. From looking forward to it. Even during my years of temporarily successful Weight Watchers attempts I could save points for a big treat on the weekend and felt great joy in looking forward to that bowl of ice cream or fried chicken and potatoes. In fact, it's the first thing my physician-husband (who recommends WLS to his patients) said to me when I told him I was considering the surgery ... "But... food makes you happy." So... I guess I'd like to hear from those who have found a way to still find JOY in their food. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

took me 18-20 months to lose all of mine. Second year was slow as molasses, but I kept at it. I ate around 1000-1200 kcal/day from right around the one-year mark until I hit maintenance at 18-20 months out.

All is well...literally 6 hours after I posted this, I turned a corner lol..my stomach is still figuring out what to tolerate, but I can definitely get down my Protein and fluids each day with no difficulty and I’m having much less discomfort! It’s as I surmised, I just need to be patient!

I had my hiatal hernia repaired too and did not know that the sharp pain was related to that... I thought it was related to the sleeve surgery. It is such a jarring feeling but luckily mine only lasts about 15 seconds each time.. I keep having good "hours" and not so great "hours" (instead of days.. it is now marked by hours).
I think we just need to give it time. I am on day 10 (almost 11).

I’m 3 day post op and had a hiatal hernia repair too and I’m beyond miserable. I’m so happy to read you turned a corner. Gives me hope! I know we’ll be ok eventually but dang this is worse than I expected.

Hi Miss! I was having issues like you mentioned and was sad thinking I would live on Jello forever but this week got so much better. I am 3 weeks today. I also had to take antibiotics which made food uncomfortable so there’s that. I am glad you turned the corner. Keep us posted!

Fastest fix but it is disgusting....With such a sensitive stomach/pouch everything can cause gastric upset and cramping...accept Light mineral oil. You do 3 big gulps every hour until you poop mineral oil about 5 hours later. It's like a oil slide for the constipated stool and everything just goes right through without any cramping. I have been doing this for over 35 years I don't send flowers to my friends having surgery I drop off a bottle of mineral oil. Anesthesia, pain management, decreased mobility all cause Constipation. But for you add in ABD surgery/ decreased food and Fluid intake / rapid weight loss. Your poor body is still going through a lot. Yes an enema will work but you have 28 feet in intestines with a small alteration, the enema only does the very end you need to get everything moving along the rest of 24 feet. Again wiping after is disgusting because of the oil but every effective.....sorry for the graphics everyone.

I am 4 days post-op. For starters, I apparently had a large hiatal hernia that they repaired and it is causing dull middle chest pain sometimes when I swallow, that sometimes radiates to the center back. It is a weird feeling that stops me in my tracks. In my research the swelling of the esophageal-stomach junction area repaired can cause discomfort when swallowing for as long as 6-8 weeks after surgery. Has anyone experienced this?

Separately, my stomach seems to hate everything I try to put into it. I can really only COMFORTABLY ingest Water, Protein Water, Jello, and broth...even Protein Shakes are causing discomfort. By Day 4, I would’ve expected to tolerate more. Everything else causes my stomach to have 5 second episodes of flipping and flopping and cramping with each sip. I’m over it!!! The one thing I hoped for with this surgery was an uncomplicated and easy recovery. So far, it’s not happening.

I’m sure I probably need to just be patient and let my body heal, but I’m becoming anxious.

As said above I'd wait 1 more week before eating. Concentrate on fluids and Protein Drinks.
The hiccups you describe I call hiccburps and they can be loud and hurt a bit, slow down your intake.
I have terrible lactose intolerance now so might be why i hated the ricotta bake, when i have dairy it is like i am having severe dumping syndrome!
There is no rush to be on solids your main focus needs to be fluids and Protein, so take a deep relaxing breath and let your body heal and increase solids slowly x

Most people won't feel any real restriction until they are eating more solid foods.
Are you on stomach acid reducers? It may not necessarily be hunger you are feeling but given the stomach is relatively empty the acid sometimes feels like hunger.

Thanks. That makes me feel better. My friend came with me to get the surgery so she’s been helping with the chest/back PT portion. I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing then and plan on it being bothersome for a week or so.

I also always feel yucky as soon as I swallow that first bite. (I'm three months out.) After reading some of the posts here, I'm going to try smaller bites and more chewing. We'll see if that helps.

@calicotrixie Mine does the same! Although my stomach always feels a little unsettling. It’s nauseous on and off almost everyday. My dr. Said I’m still healing but doesn’t really have an answer. Everyone’s body responds differently in this journey. I’m just hoping this is an adjustment period since it’s still new, and it doesn’t last forever. I’m questioning my choice at this point😪 I also can barely eat much and dr said maybe nausea may be due to the lack of food. I’m barely getting 3 meals a day. I just can’t seem to stomach food!

I am 23 days post op and on soft foods now per my doc. Ever since surgery, when I eat, my stomach never feels settled or “normal”. I wouldn’t say I’m nauseous, but it’s close to it. I can only eat very little. A few ounces at most so I’m not over eating. I’m waiting 30-1 hour before drinking fluids again. I thought eating soft foods might make my stomach feel “normal” again but it hasn’t. Is this just because my stomach is still healing you think? I force myself to eat because I know I need to, but my stomach feels the same before I eat and after I eat. It’s hard to explain. I can only say that it does not feel like a normal stomach feels if that makes sense🤣 Most people say they feel “normal” after 2-3 weeks. I always feel sickly, but not to the point of throw up. Any advice or similar experiences are greatly appreciated. I see my doc for follow up on Wednesday. Also, I am a revision patient. Lap Band to Sleeve.

Hi Everyone. Had my gastric sleeve on Mon, 1/6/20 and discharged on Tues, 1/7/20. I walked several times the day of surgery and the following day. My belly became severely bloated and swollen as I was getting dressed to leave the hospital and got even worse the next day. Wednesday I spent half the day researching how to reduce the swelling and bloating and found one medical center that said they put abdominal binders on every bariatric patient immediately following surgery. Received my ab binder from Amazon on Thursday and was amazed at how much better I felt immediately. My weight when I got home on Tuesday was 7 pounds more than the day of surgery. Wednesday the scale showed 1 pound less. Thursday, 1 pound less. Friday, after wearing the abdominal binder for one day, 3 pounds less. The light compression helps support your stomach and helps your body release the excess Fluid. I wish I had thought about it before surgery and been prepared. I had liposuction and a Tummy Tuck years ago and compression garments were placed immediately after surgery so makes sense to do the same after bariatric surgery. That swelling and bloating has been the worse part for me and could have been avoided had I been prepared.

Has anyone experienced gas pain so painful all you can do is lie down. I took a pain pill to put me to sleep hoping that when i wake up the gas pain would have moved. It didn't help, I'm getting ready to drink hot tea hopefully that will help.

I obviously asked because I am curious. I am trying to follow my plan but feel best on shakes and broths. I am supposed to be having more foods but everything seems to create acid. I was hoping that someone might have something useful to share because I never experienced heartburn before this.

According to the doctor the pains I'm feeling are most likely gas pain (flatulence not surgical gas). It could also be my body's reaction to whey Protein Shakes. I've bought vegan pea Protein shakes and I'm trying those today to see if it helps.

I'm 4 days post op and having chest pains below my sternum. In the beginning it was very sharp and all the time no matter what I was doing, but very short maybe lasts 5-30 secs at most. Now it's less, still sharp, still short, but has started happening when I'm drinking or eating Jello too. Any ideas?

I also had a hiatal hernia that was removed. I was having awful acid reflux before my surgery and it was the culprit, so they fixed it and all is better now.
