So, your fat stores estrogen and when you lose massive amounts of fat in a short period of time your body dumps a massive amount of estrogen into your system. This often causes depression or mood swings. This is a known side-effect of WLS. You may be experiencing something related to this. Talk to your doctor about it. You may need medication to help, temporarily. Good luck.

Suzi_the_Q got a reaction from GreenTealael in Ways to deal with stress?
    Hi all,
I'm about a month and a half from my bypass surgery and I'm struggling to be good on my food. My partner is an alcoholic and decided to go off his mental health meds a couple weeks ago without consulting his therapist or me. I've managed to get him to start them again a couple days ago, but it's been rough. Additionally, my special needs 6 year old has been home from his special needs "school"/ therapy center over insurance issues that won't resolve until at least the 30th. His being out of school coincided with my partner starting a new job, so suddenly he's not home with us and my son has been acting out a bit. To top it all off, my chronic pain has been flaring up and I have no medication to treat it. I use heating pads etc. but it's debilitating. My PC thinks it's fibromyalgia and I've been referred to a pain specialist but they won't be calling me to schedule for another 2 weeks. Meanwhile I can barely get out of bed and when I do it's excruciating.
So my question is: what do you do for stress relief that doesn't involve exercise or alone time? I have a therapist I talk to once a week and I'm on mental health medication already.

If I'm reading this right, you're just 5 days post-surgery? The number you see on the scale doesn't mean much right now. It's way too soon for you to be able to assess what kind of results you are getting. You're just starting to heal - you still have internal swelling (which means Water retention). Stay with your eating plan, give your body time to recover and R.E.L.A.X. This is more like a marathon than a sprint. I lost my weight over 18 months (and I'm still slowly losing). It won't happen overnight, but if you're diligent about following your plan, it WILL happen. Feel better. 🤗

So for the first time since probably middle school (30 years ago! (Omg that hurt)) I’m not technically obese per BMI charts! Broke below 240 this morning which puts me at 29. I have a friend who’s a pro body builder and he’s technically obese too without a lick of fat on him so I don’t really give much credit to those charts but I’ll take the little wins wherever I can!

I want to take a second to say THANK YOU to each and every one of you. From the Debbie Downers all the way up to the Positive Peters... you all give advice and knowledge on a topic that you can't just talk to anyone about. We are all in the trenches TOGETHER. In a way we become a unit/family that relies on each other. We don't always say what people want to hear...we go one step further and say what people NEED TO HEAR!!! I think that is the most important thing.
We all know that because we are rowing in the same direction....we will have a support system to lean on when things get tough.
I go in on Wednesday. I am very optimistic about what the future holds for me. A lot of that is because of the people in these forums. So....
    THANK YOU!!!

Like many, I've lost a TON of hair as part of this journey. In August, at 7 months out, I cut it to a long bob which helped, but as it started to grow out it quickly became scraggly and looked very fine. SO I did a major cut this week taking it to a long pixie (almost 10.5 months out) I am super happy at what a difference it made in appearance - parts of it are almost back to normal density with regrowth. Now if it only stops falling out and I can keep what I have.

I think it's all about moderation. I bought Decaf and at my first post follow up, I mentioned that the decaf wasn't doing it for me. My surgeon asked how much coffee I drank and I said one large cup each morning and that's it. He said it would be fine. I stopped using Creamer and started using Premier Protein Caramel or Fairlife vanilla plus collagen Protein, so it's a protein bomb too!

2 months until my PS!!! It seemed so long ago when I booked it, but now it will be here soon!
I'm increasing my Iron intake in prep for surgery (esp for pre-surgery labwork). Will start doing pre-reqs next month (labs, mammogram, chest xrays, etc), so that will keep me busy!
    Fun stuff!!

I've felt super full before and have thrown up a bit but this was my first time fully dumping. I got all the symptoms
*tmi* i was sitting on the toilet with diarrhea while throwing up in the trash can. shakes, flushed, heart rate at 135.
All this because I ate 1 sweet and sour chicken ball and a egg roll. I feel like death.

I think we all experienced it. I didn't find any solution and just toughed it out. It may seem like an eternity at the moment, but you will be able to eat some crunchy things sooner than you think. I really enjoyed some of the Protein chips from the Bariatric Pal Store when I could eat them--and I still do.

Lately, I remind myself that my food and my health are the only things I have control over. I hope to be able to get back to intense cardio so I can pretend I'm running away from my problems (while listening to music) once I lose a bit more weight. I watch fantasy shows that have little to do with reality or I read books. I need to get back into crafting and art too.

    Hi all!
I am new to exploring Bariatric surgery and have my initial appointment tomorrow. I’ve struggled with my weight since I was a young child and am now thirty. At my current weight of 293 pounds, and my height, I have a BMI of 54.5 and multiple co morbidities. I suffer from Type II diabetes, obesity hypoventilation syndrome, sleep apnea, hypertension, high cholesterol, tachycardia, arthritis, and acid reflux. My mobility is significantly impacted and I get winded very easily. At thirty I have already had a TIA about a month ago and have been told I’m at high risk of another event or cardiac event. I don’t want to die and want my life back but no matter what diet I’ve tried it’s failed. I don’t know yet what procedure is best for me but I feel like this is my last chance to save my life. I’m here for support and education!

I was also told when your Fluid levels are low you will think you're hungry, but in reality you're actually thirsty. Try drinking a bit more. It might help!

Exercise (walking and strength training) is a big help. Also music helps me a lot. I put music on, blast it loud if I want, sing and dance along, whatever I feel like. It helps.
I know you said non-food related, but one thing that helps with cravings is this advice that I received: "Before you eat something bad, eat something good." What that meant was, before giving in to a craving to eat something totally off plan, have an on-plan snack and often the craving will lessen or go away. I've tried it and it's worked for me many times.
