I have learned a lot from Dr. V while I don't agree with everything He says though. Do you have any suggestions on people (motivational self help speakers) to listen too, I am looking into branching out, and like to listen while I am getting in my fitness.
  2. Congrats!

As I said the weight thing was a theory I heard because of giving your body time to heal properly and letting you get your eating and mind on track, as weight lifting can cause you to feel more hungrier and need a little more calories taken in. It was a time to work on your brain and let your body heal.
  3. Congrats!

I don’t agree with everything in moderation for myself. Certain foods seem to set off hunger or lead to bad habits for me. I try and limit my processed food to one meal a day, although I’ve let up a lot the past few months. I don’t eat fried food except on a rare occasion, and I do watch super carby foods like bread carefully. The Western diet is awful even in moderation, it’s hard for us to recognize and accept that.
I do still like and enjoy food so I tweak recipes that fit in my plan. I had homemade pizza last night made with trader joe dough, 1/4 cup mozzarella and Italian chicken sausage, (400 calories). I make tacos with 96% fat free ground beef, at least 2 times a week and I use crunchy shells which are only 50 calories a piece. My taco dinner average 375 total calories. I make a lot of stir fry and I’ll have a 1/3 cup of rice with it which is enough to keep me sane.

It’s a balancing act. I know if I start eating like I used to even in moderation, I’m headed in the wrong direction! If I feel super guilty about eating something I know there is a reason why.
It takes awhile to figure out what works for you.

Dinner: Seafood Shiratake Soup (1/3 package of shiratake noodles + 2 shitake mushrooms + 3 shrimp balls + 1 oz imitation crab meat + 1/3 cup Chinese broccoli + 1.5 cup bonito broth + green onions)

Hi November sleevers! Going on 3 months 2/4. It’s been like a 2nd job, but feeling a little bit better. I’ve also experienced a lot of weakness and low energy. Rest on the weekends. Through this course of bariatric it was discovered that I have a condition called Hereditary Hemochromotosis. Surgeon did liver biopsy during sleeve and I was dx with Iron overload scale of 0–4 my liver iron overload was at 3. Good news no cirrhosis. Along with dropping about 2.4 lbs per week I just started aggressive phlebotomies to pull iron off my organs. It’s been tough, but I rest on the weekends and pace self to be able to make it through the work week. I’m down almost 40 lbs. Trying to increase my calories to 700, like others I’m just not able to eat much and I’m full. When I look back at where I was in May when I went to the seminar... I’d have to say even through I’m weak, mentally I’m gaining strength. Regaining my old self. Thank you everyone on this thread and site for encouragement. It’s great to read about others, struggles, challenges and know we’re all here to lift one another up.
    Gloria

I just wanted to update — I upped my calories as per my dietician suggested and lost 3.6 lbs this week. Totally counterintuitive but our bodies are much smarter then us. 🤣😂

The scales shouldn't be the only indicator of success...and if someone puts on a bit of scale weight because of increased body mass that's great...no doubt they will have lost some body fat and will continue to do so.
I can't think of a worse reason not to do strength or resistance training because of the scales...I would think the benefits would far outweigh that.

Just a reminder that muscle does not weigh more than fat. 1 lb of muscle = 1 lb of fat. Muscle I’d denser than fat .

Bulking up in general, whether male or female is hard unless you have a substantial caloric surplus. Lift heavy for few reps for strength or light for high reps for definition, either way bulking is hard to do.

Yes, you're right. Sorry, threads like this make me royally pissed sometimes.
True as well. The problem is: what's questionable or not is too often in the eyes of the beholder. That personal point of view is shaped by your own experiences, current trends/hypes and numerous other things. Some years ago people were all over the place with "low fat" and scolded others when they dared to admit to eating fatty foods. Today people are scolded when they're eating "carbs".
I never counted calories or carbs, my diet is absolute **** by BP standards, my exercise level dropped significantly (luckily so did my appetite though) because of several injuries first and then second due to a significant increase in workload and yet my BMI is 23.something, so I absolutely can't relate to the eat-as-little-as-possible-and-protein-only-while-moving-as-much-as-possible crowd. So that's the bubble I am in and this is also what's shaping my opinion on certain things.
Yes, I know people want to "get it over with" as soon as possible (even though one of the other BP mantras is "it's a marathon not a sprint) but I have serious doubts that people do themselves any good by crash dieting after WLS. There are too many people struggling less than a year out already to not question this approach at least once in a while.
And yes, I think I should stay out of threads like these because what I have to say (as one of the precious "vets" people always want advice from, mind you, lol) is not what people want to hear anyway. *shrug*

While that seems to make sense, it has been debunked that all calories are the same and burn the same. It has also been questionable about calories in, calories out, based on the fact that the way we burn the type of calories has been accepted. I do agree that 1500 calories = is 1500 calories, but since all calories have different nutritional make up and burn differently, how we burn the calories is more important

If you’re not happy with the results change the plan. The choice is yours - what has worked for the majority is cutting out refined processed sugars. If you remain unpleased with your progress I recommend changing it up. The choice is yours the journey is yours the results are yours. Best

Hi Seimmaj. Just as there are bad doctors there are bad nutritionists. I have spent months reviewing Bariatric Eating plans from hundreds of hospitals and the most important factor is cutting out ALL refined sugars from our diets. It’s really alarming that a nutritionist would tell you it’s okay to drink regular Gatorade or anything containing sugar. Even adding a cup of regular Gatorade to 32 oz Water is sabotage. Powerade zero is delicious and has less sodium and zero sugar and I add water to it because after four weeks of absolutely no sugar I can’t stand the taste of anything sweet. Maybe your nutritionist is under the false assumption that all artificial sweeteners are bad, but stevia isn’t artificial and doesn’t effect glucose levels. It is simply a fact, attested to by the thousands of people on this site, millions of doctors, and years of research that any refined sugar, especially after bariatric surgery, will prevent weightloss and even cause weight gain. Think of your new stomach as a newborn stomach and ask yourself if you would give Gatorade to a new born baby. If you don’t believe us, maybe attend a group session for bariatric patients or maybe ask your surgeon their opinion. Wishing you a successful journey.

DO not Panic - lets look at this as basic math -
6 divided by 11 is approx 2 pounds a week!
52 weeks in year times 2 pounds EQUALS 104 POUNDS A YEAR!
i do not think you could loose a hundred plus pounds the way you used to live Pre OP! Do not let the head demons get you, Stay on track and the math above does not lie! You got this - Plus when you can add some Gym time you will increase the math above!
Stay focused Stay Happy and Enjoy the journey!

There are some clues: 1) You haven't been keeping a food diary, and 2) you are drinking calories.
Logging your food is absolutely essential to knowing how much Protein and calories you are actually consuming. It will show you trends and allows you to make beneficial tweaks. Drinking your calories is a big no-no. You are taking in hundreds and hundreds of extra empty calories if you are hydrating with sports drinks. Switch to Water or herbal teas that taste good, and keep sipping to keep hydrated.

I think you have untentionally been consuming a lot more calories than you think you have...regular gatorade and Powerade do have a lot of calories and sugar in them. Two bottles of 600mls gatorade for instance has nearly 300cals and 66 grams of sugar. The sugar is probably playing havoc with your insulin levels too.
I think once you reduce the gatorade and powerade that you will find your weight loss will improve.

Thank you for the advice. I do see the nutritionist tomorrow.. And will try to remember to start a food diary. I have been drinking an excessive amount of Gatorade and Powerade. But was told that was good to help me stay hydrated. Maybe cut out that and switch with more Water. All really good ideas. Thank you for no judgement. And great suggestions

I feel hungry all the time. Is it hunger or is it years of mental abuse on myself and I'm confusing the 2. I just keep trying to push through it looking towards the next meal break.
