Isopure?
I went to GNC this evening and was asking about protein powders and shakes that would be best for WLS and the lady told me that most people that have had WLS come in and say their docs tell them to get Isopure. It was on sale...a case of 12 for $36, so I grabbed up a case of blue raspberry. Do alot of ya'll use this for your post op liquid diet, and what is your take on the raspberry taste if you've had it?

I got my date today!!!
Well, I went for my first consultation today and I got my date.....July 17th, two weeks from today! I'm gonna be a July Butterfly! I was so scared there would be some reason that the surgeon would say no, but now that he has said yes and set the date, I'm scared to death! I know I'm doing the right thing for my health, its just that I've never had surgery before so I guess you could say fear of the unknown. I've been on here for a month now and I have read almost everything I possibly can so I have ALOT more knowledge than I would have, so that gives me comfort and knowing I'm not alone is really nice. I'll definitely be on here as soon as I can after surgery to update (and of course I'll be on here religiously everyday until then). Thanks to everyone who shares their stories and experiences!

Psychiatric Medication
I've read this thread and little bits and peices pertain to me, but I'm gonna put myself out there and tell my story briefly....I was diagnosed bipolar in Oct 2005 because I had yet another breakdown, the worst of my adult life. My son started kindergarten and I lost it. My diagnosis has since been changed to borderline personality, major depression, and panic disorder, I have had BAD panic attacks since chilhood. Anyway, since then I have been taking Geodon, Wellbutrin, Klonopin, and Trazodone. Does anyone here take these or any combination of these CURRENTLY? I'm just wondering if my surgeon will think it is ok to stay on them. I talked to my psych and her only concern was the Geodon because you are supposed to eat 500 calories with it for it to work effectively. What she doesn't know is that I never eat with it cause if I do, I pass out from exhaustion. I feel it still works just fine for me and I'm better off with it than without it. If anyone reads this and can give me advice based on their experience, I'd appreciate the input. Thanks

Anyone extra-emotional??
Hi luigismama, I am not yet banded, but I have seen alot of people asking similar questions and the answers are mostly explaining that our fat cells hold estrogen, so as we shed the fat, the estrogen in our bodies gets released causing this roller coaster of emotions. Hope that helped explain a little, I'm sure someone else can explain it better though. Good luck on your journey and congratulations!

1st appt
Oh ya, and Hottie, congratulations!

1st appt
Ya, I've done everything and turned everything in that they need. I'm done on my end when it comes to that. I think I'm basically gonna find out what HE wants from me and maybe he'll tell me a few things I don't know. I'm just nervous, I mean, what if he schedules me for testing, puts me on the liver diet and throws a surgery date at me?! That's what I'm worried about. No more surrealness after that. It will be balls to the wall and that excites me and terrifies me at the same time.:thumbs_up:

1st appt
Well, I have officially been scheduled for my initial visit with my surgeon for July 3rd. I have ALL my paper work in that he needs. :blushing: Now, my question is...what do I expect at this visit? Is there anyone new enough at this to remember how their appt went and what kind of stuff you discussed? Thanks, Stephanie

Could use some friends...
I've been here at LBT reading, learning and doing a little posting....now I am VERY soon to be banded and I thought it would be nice to have some friends on here. Anybody wanna be my friend? I know, I sound so elementary, lol. Stephanie:tongue:

Cigarrettes anyone???
Everyone is right about why you need to quit. MY Dr won't operate unless its all out of my system. I'm 2 days smoke free and I feel like I want to die, BUT, I am chewing on straws and gum and hoping I will wake up one day SOON and won't have the urge. Also, I know it is hard when you are surrounded by people who aren't supportive, I actually have a "friend" right now who thinks its funny that I'm struggling and blows smoke in my face. I've told her not to come around me for at least 2 weeks, she thinks I'm being a witch, but I don't care. I need this surgery!

Emotions???
I would like to ask everyone a question...I know that basically all of us have a story behind our weight...abuse, loss, emotions, etc. My question to you is after you were banded and lost significant weight, did anyone find themselves having to deal with pent up issues that came back up out of nowhere? I am not yet banded, but have a lot of issues that I know I hold down and I'm hoping they don't overwhelm me all at once if ever.

Videotaped my first fill
That was awesome that you put this video on here to help those of us that haven't gone through it yet know what to expect. I had no idea that there was that much mushing and gouging involved, luckily I have no problem with needles, but I will say that I'm not gonna look down, lol.

First year of the journey
Wow, I cried when I read your story, I can really relate to it, especially after losing my mother and HER battle with obesity and other related health problems. Many congratulations to you and your success. I'm proud of you!

Why am I keeping it Quiet???
I understand about the "friend" comment. I have been fat for about 8 years now, and before that, I was always in shape and at the proper weight, so ever since I have known this particular friend, I have been the "fat friend". SHE could stand to lose a good 30 lbs herself. She has large bone structure, so even if we were both at our ideal weights, she'd be bigger than me. Well, I was talking to her about the surgery a couple of weeks ago, and she had the nerve to say to me, "if you get smaller than me, I'm gonna get pissed". For a moment the comment hurt my feelings, then I thought screw her and her jealousy, so I said to her, "prepare to be pissed because I WILL be smaller than you, I'm made smaller than you, and I will get smaller than you and you can be MY fat friend". That shut her up.

Fat stories
Last summer I decided to take my then 6 yr old son to the county fair. They had the ride where it slowly takes you up and then drops you. Well, he wasn't having anything to do with it, so, even though I didn't want to get on, I thought if he saw how brave mommy was and that I didn't get hurt, he would do it. I got in line and when it was my turn I climbed up on the LITTLE seat and then the operator came around to lock everyone in, when he got to me (the biggest person on the ride), he had to fight with the ride and kept shoving the contraption into my stomach and kept muttering under his breath, "you're too big, not gonna work". I was humiliated, but I sucked my stomach in as far as I could-I wasn't fixin to be kicked off this ride in front of everyone in this small town. It finally clicked, but I was in so much pain and got scared cause I could barely take a breath, but I did it and it impressed my son, I told myself that I would never let that happen to me again, I refuse to not be able to fit places that everyone else can. Unfortunately, I'm still big this summer, so I think I'll let his daddy do most of the rides and I'll just cheer him on to avoid humiliation.

I am done and have a date!!!!
Congratulations! I can't wait to be where you are. I just have a couple more hurdles til I am. Looking forward to jumping them.
-
I passed!
I was terrified, but I was just honest and answered the questions with my true feelings and even though I couldn't tell the whole session what the outcome was, she told me at the end. I'm not gonna tell you its nothing to be nervous about, but but I will tell you it will turn out fine. I'm backwards from you, I still have to wait for the surgeon to get her letter and meet with him, so I'm scared cause he can reverse what she thinks. Good luck and congratulations for making it this far.

I passed!

I passed!
I just got home from my psych eval and the psychologist told me I passed with flying colors. I am so excited! She was able to see that I was being honest and that I was well informed up to this point. That was MY first major step and I know I've got other hurdles to jump over, but this was a big thing that could make or break me. I know I still have to get through insurance and the surgeon, but honestly, with the program I'm in, those two shouldn't be much of a problem either. I'm siked! Can't stop smiling!
