    Hope everyone is doing well
I've just made appointment to see my surgeon for my 3 months post op check up.
    I'll be doing blood test for all the Vitamins and nutrients;
    Blood test says:
    IRON STUDIES,B12 FOLATE,VIT D,
    FBE,
    LFT/ELEC
    CRP
    TFT
    LIPIDS HDL LDL
2.5 weeks until I see the surgeon should be good I know he'll be very happy with my progress.
since day 1 of my journey nearly 5 months ago I'm already down 127lbs and 61lbs since surgery.
currently sitting at 195 would like to get to 185 maybe even 180 but I'll see how things go. 😀
Should be picking up my rowing machine this coming week which should help with toning..
I'm getting very excited for the coming year ahead!
    THANKS
    Mike.

Many reasons cause a marriage to go to ****. In some, adversity brings people closer. This was a sad tale, but I would image the Bariatric surgery was minimally causal.

Just had my pre-op clearance appointment with my surgeons nurse practitioner and everything is set for my surgery on January 16th. Nothing to do now but wait.

I haven't had surgery yet, but I have been dieting since July 2019 as my surgeon wanted me to get my BMI down to 50 before surgery. I started at trying to stay at or under 2400 calories per day and as I lost weight I dropped it to 2000 per day. After about 3 months I was comfortable on 1600 calories a day. I also noticed that if I stalled or even wasn't stalling that if I had a couple of days closer to my upper limits and then cranked it back down to lower I had my best week of weight loss. I haven't done much research but I think this is labelled as a calorie confusion diet or metabolic confusion diet. This is where you alternate between high calorie and low calorie days. I also did 16:8 intermittent fasting. Your body thinks it is starving on the lower calories and then you bump your metabolism back up with high calorie day.

I am a new sleever, and while my pants are looser and I have a coat that actually zips (non-scale victories), what I am amazed at is how many people mentioned they can sit in a chair with arms. I really thought I was the only one that had the issue. I know it is silly to think that, but no one else at my work or in my circle of friends/family understood what I felt like in those chairs! I am not to the point of no pain in the arm chairs yet, but I am really looking forward to it. I am looking forward to no more bruises from the arms. It's the small things that mean a lot . . . .

Uomograsso reacted to ms.sss in Why did you choose the surgery you had/will have?
I did not suffer from GERD pre-op so my Doc left the decision up to me. He told me he does do more RNY's and that it is the "Gold Standard", but that is because its just been around longer. He has seen successes (and failures) among both. He told me he feels that that success lays more with the patient than the type of surgery. He wanted me to choose whichever one I felt most comfortable with to my body.
    Ultimately, I chose Sleeve because:
I didn't like the idea of re-routing my intestines I wanted to have my pyloric valve intact I wanted to be able to take NSAIDS (or time-realase meds) if I ever needed to I didn't want to increase my chances of dumping (Boo on me: I dump anyways ) I didn't want the malabsorption effect and have to take more Vitamins (Boo on me again: I was prescribed the same Vitamin regimen 🙄 ) I stuck to my plan pretty strictly during weight loss phase and got to goal in 7 months with a 110 lbs loss & a BMI of 23 at the time (I am 14 months post op now with a total loss of 120 lbs & a BMI of 21)
Honestly though, I'm pretty sure I would have got to the same place with either surgery.
Do your research, take in the advice/recommendations of your doc/team, and go with your gut ❤️
    Good Luck!
P.S. the one thing though that I thought was a "pro" for me to go bypass was that theoretically it was reverseable (I was totally scared at the time) 😂

Uomograsso reacted to Flo-grown in Why did you choose the surgery you had/will have?
I too wanted the bypass to lose the maximum amount of weight and my doctor felt I could achieve the same results with the sleeve even though I suffered from GERD. I trust my doctor and I'm very happy with my surgery. I have not had any issues with GERD since my surgery.

There's reality only two options in my city which was sleeve or bypass RNY.
I did tons of research and decided on RNY for various reasons.
    1. I wanted the Malabsorption aspect.
    2. I wanted greater chance of fixing my diabetes which it did pretty quickly; was off all diabetes medications within a week of surgery.
    3. I wanted the metabolic changes that came with the redirection of intestines because i believe my metabolism was so bad after decades of bad food choices.
    4. I wanted the most restrictive procedure available and only wanted one surgery; most of my research showed many people being revised after sleeve surgery to bypass for many reasons.
I am very very happy but I've been very strict on myself from day 1.
Almost 5 months later and I'm down 126lbs from highest weight.
But everyone has their own preference and reasons to what surgery they like.

Just got a call and my surgery has been switched from 7:30 am to 9:45 am tomorrow. I am OK with that because I originally needed to be at the hospital at 5:30 am, now my time is 7:15 am so I can sleep a little later.
As to pre-op diets my surgeon gave me the following list of Protein Drinks to use: Premier Protein, Bariatric Advantage Protein Powder, Muscle Milk Genuine, Unjury Protein powder and/or Protein 2O. powders could be mixed with Water or skim milk. The goal was to get 80-90 grams of protein each day. I could have 1 cup of fruit or vegetables two times a day. I could also have low sodium chicken broth along with sugar free popsicles and Jello. I did 1 week of liquids with day before surgery just Clear Liquids. This is done to shrink the liver so doctor can lift the liver off of the stomach to allow better access to it.

My doctor recommended I have the sleeve as he considered a better idea when looking at my health history. Part of the process for my doctor was to have an EGD to confirm that sleeve was the right choice. My doctor found a mass in my duodenum which turned out to be non-cancerous, whew! A second opinion from a surgical specialist they decided to just monitor the mass instead of removing it as that surgery would be very complicated and losing more weight would help if I ever needed that surgery. Due to that issue the sleeve is a better choice because they can still do an EGD in 6 months to check on it. So long story short, the choice should be made by you and your doctor based on your situation and health history.

Well, I wasn't talking about the boobs of women who have had surgery. I was only referring to my surgeon. I was hoping for a surgeon with big melons so that when she is bending over me I get an eyefull. It would certainly take my mind of the procedure and put me in a great mood. Even better if one of them accidentally brushes up against me.
Does that make me a bad person?

My primary physician sent me to him. Ideally, I was looking for a bariactric surgeon who was female and hot with big boobs, but I'll settle for a guy with 3000 (successful?) surgeries.

Uomograsso reacted to AZhiker in I actually prefer not to die
Sorry, but I just can't let your comment go. Bariatric surgery involves huge physical changes, and for many women, it means substantial loss of in the boob department. The body changes are hard enough to cope with, and it doesn't help knowing there are men who value a woman by the size of her breasts. Your comment is insensitive to the successful female WLS patients on this forum.

I was really hungry while on the clear and full liquid stage after surgery but once I moved on to solid food I lost a lot of that hunger. Now, sometimes, I have to force myself to eat. It will get better 🤗

+1 on the Water aerobics. I work out at our local community center and in the pool area the have a lazy river which the dedicate walking in the mornings. I started out doing that, walking against the current. Easy on the knees and hips, but you can get a good workout. If you have access to that I would recommend it. I see a lot of people who have knee and hip replacements doing that.

I was very hungry in the first 2 weeks after surgery but at about week 4 when I was allowed to go back to the gym my hunger decreased about 90% and since then I have good days and some days that are so so!!!!!!! Overall, this has been a great process for me and I wake up each day with a fight in my eyes that tells me that I never want to go back to the days of overeating and having health issues due to eating whatever I want and whenever I want to.... It is a process and you will find what works for you in this process... So just stay the course and follow the instructions from your healthcare team.... Also, major key for me was you have to want this process to work and fight everyday to make it work for you... Good luck to you and keep us posted...

I am one year post-op sleeve.
I struggled with losing weight for the last six months, was constantly stalled.
But I didn't gain weight (except for 3 1/2 pounds during holidays, which I've already lost).
So starting January 1st I started eating MORE calories, like a LOT, like 1300/day and guess what? I'm LOSING weight again.
My guess is my body had adjusted to the lower number of calories and was holding on to everything it was getting.
Or maybe my body just needed a rest.
But I feel like I had the longest stall in weight loss surgery history.
Happy now to see the scale going down daily!
