To Mikey’s credit he has been consistent with his attitude for a year now. Always a bit self centered and very matter a fact. Very much his way is right yours is wrong. A bit of a narcissist. He went from an awkward fat man to a confident skinny man. Outside of the WLS community this behavior is called being a d**k.

No you're not, not one little bit. You love that you've been super successful and now you've forgotten what it was like the hundreds of times you tried to lose weight and failed pre WLS. You forget too easily that you had to have an entire organ bypassed from your digestive tract to get you where you are today. Don't forget, have compassion and empathy.

Wow, no-one will ever need weight loss surgery any more! I wish I'd read this post years earlier, it would definitely have fixed my years of struggle with weight gain and loss, and eating disorders.
Seriously though, tough love DOES NOT WORK. I'd have thought the fact that we have all needed weight loss surgery is a clue to that. My eating disorder was not something I could out think, fix with a diet or just white knuckle through with willpower.
If you made the mental decision and that was all it took, why get surgery???

This WHOLE ENTIRE POST IRKS ME. Funny how, a person who has been Obese, has the audacity to get on WLS Forum to ridicule people on their journey. You are still in your honeymoon phase of your surgery and Good For You, that you lost your excess weight, and Good For You that you had the "mental stamina" to achieve your goals and Good For You that you are "healthy and skinny". But without your WLS surgery, would you be able to stand on your high horse and scream down to the people who were once in the same boat about their struggles? This Forum, from what I know, is to help people on their journey; good, bad or indifferent. I personally, like the authenticity of posts, where people are brave enough to admit their struggles and downfalls. At least, they are willing to admit their faults and seek help. You never know what post can help somebody with the same issue. Everyone that has gone through a WLS are well aware that this road is NOT easy. This community already receives, judgement, criticisms and ridicule from other people. It's just a hard pill to swallow when its one of our "own".

The Cleveland Clinic has a program for this. They shared the guide with me in advance- I can share that with you if you DM me your email.

Did you miss where she said this started with the sleeve? If she’s had that and is now looking at other options to try to help I don’t see how this is helpful? Maybe I’m missing something here.

I am sorry for your experiences. I never lost my hunger pains either. But I consider my weight loss to be a success. I am no longer morbidly obese - am on the border of overweight and obese - with my doctor telling me that at 64 years old it is considered overweight, and frankly, I will take that. Not all surgeries that we have for anything are 100% curative. My sleeve did not "cure" my obesity. It was a tool that helped me lose weight and get a handle on overeating. My surgery was not a "cure" and I still do battle with eating too much or the wrong things on occasion; but I am 140 pounds lighter than when I started. THAT is MY VICTORY.
Perhaps consulting with a teaching hospital might be of help.

Unfortunately not every surgery ends all rosy, there are some surgery complications and some people do have issues in the medium to long term. If you don't want to see anything that you perceive to be discouraging, negative and anxiety inducing you will need to give a lot of threads a miss or not be on social media at all.
The OP came for support and encouragement too and should be able to tell there story.

I said the same thing earlier and they corrected themselves. It was the gall bladder.

I'm sorry you didn't find my post helpful, but if there were more posts like this I wouldn't be in the spot I am in. If you don't want to hear negative comments then looking at a topic called REGRETS.
I have had several responses that show I am the exception not the rule, but I deserve to be able to express myself as well.
I wish you luck and good health.

I'm not sure if you had the Fundoplication yet but if not, ask your surgeon if the RNY conversion with hernia repair will provide a better long term outcome with fewer surgeries down the line.
2nd and 3rd opinions are also an option.
    Good Luck

You certainly have been through the wringer on this, and for that I, too, am sorry to see your struggles.
It does seem that a revision of some sort is called for, and a second opinion (and even third...) is certainly called for in cases like yours (or really for any revision.) My suggestion is to find a surgeon from the DS (duodenal switch) world for another opinion, as the DS is a more complex bariatric procedure that most surgeons don't offer, DS docs tend to come from the top of the class, and as the DS uses the VSG as its basis, they tend to be the most experienced surgeons around when it comes to sleeve problems as they have been doing them a lot longer than most bariatric surgeons.
My first choice for discussing a problem such as yours would be Dr. Ara Keshishian, who is down in the LA area. People come from all over the country to see him on complex revisions and other bariatric problems, so he is used to doing virtual consults (at least the initial one) so you don't have to travel to get an idea as to what solutions there may be for your problem. A bit close to you would be Drs. Rabkin, Jossert or Cirangle, all in different practices in the SF area, but all from the DS world and well experienced with sleeves.
It is good to hear that your doc has tried a Nissen; while not particularly new, it is somewhat unusual with the sleeve as there isn't much fundus left to plicate, so many bariatric surgeons go straight to an RNY revision as they don't know how to do the Nissen on a sleeve. I have a small hiatel hernia and talked to Dr. K about it, but it isn't appropriate for my situation, but since my symptoms are mild, it is a wait and see situation - I'm not eager to go to the RNY as it's something of a surgical dead end that removes a lot of options once you go there (but it generally works well once you do.)
Good luck in working this through....

horror stories about RNY are about the same as with VSG - i.e., they're very rare with both surgeries. It sounds like they're more common than they actually are because people are more apt to post about them - to get support or advice - than they are if their surgery went off without a hitch. People don't usually broadcast that they had a surgery that went great with no issues - but they do if they've had serious complications. Major complications with either surgery are very rare.

    Hello,
I am new to this forum but I really need to warn others. I am 5 years post op from the sleeve surgery and am MISERABLE! I have also had 4 more surgeries to fix a hiatal hernia at the esophagus and stomach as well as pouches that were formed by the surgery. I have not been able to eat normally since the surgery and by normally I mean the way you are suppose to after VSG. I haven't been able to drink Water without pain. My SW was 245 and now I am at 184 and losing since my most recent surgery. The recent surgery was to fix the hiatal hernia again. I was told it was a "new" way of fixing the hernia, nothing more was told to me. My pancreas was also removed at the same time. My surgery was called a Nissen Fundoplication, its pretty complicated. They use of the stomach to be wrapped around the esophagus so it won't go up into that area again. From the beginning I have had GERD very bad, it was so bad I was on 2 different medications as well as over the counter antacids so that is why the Nissen Fundoplication. It has been horrible this 5 year journey. I am getting all of my records together for a second opinion and to possibly have a revision to the RNY.
This surgery was the biggest regret of my life. My life has suffered more and my relationship has also been hurt by this. I am always so tired and sick, and my husband is worried about losing me.
I have also been just left to flounder. I have had numerous swallow tests and load of medications but NOTHING allows me to drink a nice glass of water, albeit a sip at a time, without pain.
So in one word "YES" i regret everything about this surgery.
