DrBrianG got a reaction from FluffyChix in Week 5 Update
Internal: I have listened to positive motivational podcasts, self-help books that I love. Trying to embrace this is a permanent lifestyle, eating, drinking, exercise change. At times I worry I'll eat the same types of food over and over. Then I look at Pinterest, cooking books and know I will still have fun cooking, eating, and being with family at meals. Just anxious about what work will be like with eating between patients. (I work at a prison.) I am 5 weeks out and have lost 54 pounds and am off medication (Blood pressure, diabetes) So, still EXCITED. My goal is to lose 120 pounds and keep it off for life!

DrBrianG got a reaction from gwoodgm in Day 7 after surgery update
To ANYONE who has upcoming surgery: (Tips from a guy who had LapBand just had Gastric Sleeve)
1) You will be walking about an hour after you wake up.
2) You will be full on one or two ice chips
3) You may feel an immediate positive attitude.
4) You are not returning to work in one week.
5) Learn to sip. Slow
6) For myself, and many other on YouTube, you will feel full and NOT hungry after one 1 OZ sip
7) Follow your Doctors plan, talk to your Nutritionist;
😎 Use this forum, YouTube, and Your doctor.
I was surprised I could not sip 1OZ every five minutes the first 5 days; it's critical to stay hydrated.
Keep plugging along

DrBrianG reacted to amaynard in Pureed Stage
So, here I am searching puréed stage because, like Brian, I am feeling good, and tolerating some purées now.
The poor guy came on here asking for some tasty foods. He didn’t say he was on here wanting a large cheese pizza or an everything bagel smothered in cream cheese, or French toast, pancakes and the like.
He simply came to a forum, that is here for people to get ideas, recipes, calms fears and rejoices in each other’s victories.
I’ve noticed a lot of being on your “high horse” recently on the forum, and it really needs to stop.
We all came here because we were fat and unhealthy. NO ONE is perfect.
DrBrian, I am 1 week and 4 days post op. I have tried Soups mostly, and can handle all of them. In fact, I had about 4oz of French onion Soup without the cheese and very little onion, and did great. I’ve also had about 2-3oz of chili.
Also, I am down 20lbs from my surgical weight today and neither of my decisions wanted me to go back to old ways of eating. I would have had the entire Soup and chili plus an entire meal before.

DrBrianG reacted to FluffyChix in Pureed Stage
Dr. Brian, with all due respect, as a food addict I fully understand the need to have "palatable options" for eating. But let's examine the psychology of your question. OK?
You are looking for a "tasty" food fix. But that's the exact thing you want to try to find a way to overcome. It takes a mental re-framing. Instead of looking for rewarding food experiences, look for foods you tolerate, that offer deep nutrition or the biggest bang for your nutrition buck, and that stay down well and help heal your body.
Embrace BORING. Embrace low reward. Embrace KISS. Embrace interacting with your food as little as possible for as short a time-span as possible. Why? Cuz it's in the honeymoon phase that you have the ultimate opportunity to RESHAPE and reframe your relationship with food. Believe me, once your gut microbiome gets on board with your plan, you start to crave "boring" clean foods over the craptastic high-reward foods that got us our lifetime invitation to the Obesity Ball.
Embrace:
Protein Drinks (for now)
yogurt
low fat cottage cheese
soft scrambled eggs
tuna salad made with cottage cheese and mashed hb egg
soft boiled eggs
chicken salad made like the tuna salad
sf Jello
sf popsicles
And be done with it. Make it no-brainer repetition. Because all too soon, your struggle will get worse and then you will be asking for advice on how NOT to eat the slice of pizza or 3...
I come to you not judgementally, but as someone who has walked in that trench and has discovered new ways of thinking.

Good Evening Super team!
Any tasty pureed or soft food recipes to recommend? I had a tea spoon of Tilapia; I have had yogurt, cottage cheese, and can tolerate a scrambled egg.

DrBrianG got a reaction from Hop_Scotch in Three weeks post surgery
Ok, I think I am normal, I think I am normal. Thursday will be 21 days post surgery. As a car passenger, visited my parents, one hour each way. Rested at the folks house. Just starting pureed food. Got home, super tired. Next day, one mile walk in morning and night decent energy. Today, in a fog. Also, when trying to do some work on the internet, (seeking new work) concentration is limited. Any thoughts? GREAT NEWS, for right now, my primary care doctor says stay off my diabetes and blood pressure meds. YAHOOO! For anyone on the fence, do this surgery. -

Delicious Soups, especially bean and split pea. I found some real tasty lentil Soup, as well. A spin in the blender and it is pureed. Soups are just so good - I still eat at lot of soup - it just goes down so well.

DrBrianG got a reaction from Sosewsue61 in Day 13
Today is day 13 post Gastric sleeve. Still sipping an ounce of liquid at a time. Pre-surgery, I loved Protein 2.0 Water, now, I can't take it. Isopure tastes pretty good.
I am on full liquids. Trying Bone Broth for more protein, loved the HealthSmart (Baripal brand next month)powdered Soups, and applesauce.
Part of a scrambled egg takes 20 minutes to eat, and I am stuffed. Making really thin Protein Shakes.
Looking forward to your reactions, tips, and feedback. Happy Pre-July 4th!
