Magic Bullet
My mom bought me one back before I even knew what a lapband was and I love mine. I've had it since they first came out. I think I've had mine 2+ years and it still works great. I don't use it everyday but I've used it a lot since banding. It works great for chicken salad. YUM!!! I LOVE it and it's so nice to blend and slap the lid on and put in my lunch bag.

Calorie Burning Drink???
Cookies and skip the gym for one last session in front of the Yule log, they may be stuck in their 2006 bodies well into 2007. Doctors call Enviga little more than hype in a can and fuel for fantasies about weight loss. Putting Marketing Ahead of Science The makers of Enviga bill the sparkling, caffeinated green tea as an energy drink designed to promote a healthy lifestyle. According to tests conducted by Switzerland's University of Lausanne and Nestle, who manufacture the beverage along with Coca-Cola, drinking three 12-ounce cans of Enviga per day burns 50 to 100 calories. Though it's only available in New York City and Philadelphia now, come 2007, the drink will hit store shelves nationwide. Enviga gets its calorie-burning power from the combination of caffeine and EGCG, an antioxidant naturally found in green tea. Though its makers stand by the drink's ability to burn calories, Nestle and Coca-Cola claim they're not marketing Enviga as a weight loss product. "This product seems ideal for folks that are exercising regularly, have a balanced diet, and are taking care of themselves. This is one more step. It would be great if the product was inspirational, but it's not a weight loss product," Coca-Cola spokesman Ray Crockett said. Though Enviga is not marketed specifically as a weight loss product, some doctors and consumer advocates say that looking at the ads, it's hard to think of anything else. <!-- page -->Bright, splashy pictures of the drink in its three incarnations -- green tea, peach and berry -- along with cryptic catch phrases like "less than nothing, better than anything" evoke the magic elixir from Alice in Wonderland. But according to doctors, drinking the green tea concoction is unlikely to make anyone shrink in size. For that reason, earlier this month the Center for Science in the Public Interest announced it will sue Coca-Cola and Nestle if they persist with the current ad campaign for Enviga. "This is all marketing hype based on small measured increases in metabolism from green tea. When tested on patients, green tea does not produce measurable weight loss, probably because if it boosts your metabolism you eat more to compensate," said Dr. Darwin Deen of Albert Einstein College of Medicine's department of family medicine and community health. Dr. David Katz, ABC News medical contributor and associate professor at Yale University's School of Public Health, said Enviga's calorie burning claims are based on insufficient research. "It's putting marketing hype ahead of science," Katz said. "The science here is not ready for primetime. There is a hint in animal research and in very early studies that EGCG can boost metabolism a little bit, but we don't know if that contributes to weight control." Some members of the medical community worry that the high amount of caffeine in Enviga -- 100 milligrams per serving, or 300 if drinkers consume the suggested three cans per day -- could increase metabolisms to dangerous levels. "The caffeine intake [of] 300 milligrams per day is a level that can cause jitteriness...elevated heart rate, and anxiety," said Leslie Bonci, director of sports nutrition at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Bonci said that despite its shiny silver packaging, Enviga is no magic bullet. "Everyone wants the magic bullet for weight loss, so this will be one of many products people will try in the Quest for the quick fix," she said. "The issues are not just weight loss, but safe weight loss. Caffeine is not safe for everyone especially in larger quantities." <!-- page -->Put Down the Can and Lace Up the Sneakers Doctors fear that Enviga encourages Americans to search for a quick fix for weight loss and ignore the time-honored solution -- eating right and sweating off the pounds with exercise. "My concern is that when people latch onto this, they think they don't have to do the hard stuff," Katz said. "The fundamentals of healthful eating and activity do pertain to everybody." Not only could Enviga lead dieters down the wrong path, the three-cans-per-day recommendation could also pan out to be an expensive weight loss venture. "Given the fact that a pound is 3500 calories...at $1.30-$1.50 a can it is going to cost anywhere between $136-$315 to lose a pound," Bonci said. "You can put on a pair of walking shoes and burn more calories without paying a dime." Rather than drinking Enviga, doctors might offer the following prescription for dieters, effective Jan. 1: get off the couch, exercise, drink regular green tea afterwards -- science shows the beverage in its pure form is indeed healthful. Repeat and reap rewards in the New Year. Copyright © 2006 ABC News Internet Ventures

Where are all the Michigan people at??
I chose Port Huron due to the fact that I had no additional out of pocket costs after paying the hospital fee of $100 and the surgeon fee of $50, both of which you pay on the day of your consultation. After that I paid nothing, my insurance paid the rest. There's no manditory support group and they do have a once a month support group, which is free to attend. I live MUCH closer to Flint and have to drive through flint everytime I goto PH for a check up but I chose not to go to Hurley just from people who told me to avoid that hospital and also I went to their website and wasn't very comfortable with doctors that graduated medical school from the Uof Bagdad, etc. My doctor went to medical school in the US and has done hundreds of lapband surgeries. I also found him very easy going right from the seminar and knew he was someone I could feel comfortable going to for any problem. My first choice had been Dr. Deol in Troy but I quickly changed my mind when I found out I'd be paying out of pocket prior to surgery a consult fee of $250, plus the fee for dietian (approx $100+), and the psych eval which was like $150 and you had to pay upfront the support group fee of $800. I couldn't afford that at the time.

My Christmas PB
I've PB'd in my car a few times... always into cups or empty water bottles that happen to be on the floor in the backseat. I stopped eating in the car. hahaha. On my 2nd anniversary me and hubby went to dinner at a nice resturant and I got shrimp stuck. I went to the bathroom three times and pb'd and the waiter came over and asked if the food was bad. I was SOOOO embarrassed. My hubby told him I had lapband surgery and food gets stuck sometimes so then the waiter was hovering over us asking me constantly if I needed anything. I hate that!!!

Constant Vomiting
I'm in the same boat you are. Same amount of fill and same triggers! You could be my band twin! I was getting food stuck ALL the time for a few weeks and it was driving me nuts. I was starting to figure out ways to get food unstuck in a hurry, and that made me realize I wasn't paying attention to what was making me stuck in the first place. So one day I woke up and decided to pay attention to what went in my mouth and how I ate it from that point on. I think I've only gotten food stuck 4 times in the past month. I used to get food stuck like 4 times a day. I'm now dropping weight again and feeling way happier with my band. You have to think about the food and how you eat to get it to work right without getting stuck. I had a really hard time letting go of bread. I love bread. Now that I have stopped eating it I am MUCH happier!

Anything you would go back and do before surgery if you had a chance to do it over?
One thing I forgot to do and wished I had was put a pillow in the car for the trip home to put between you and the seatbelt. I had to hold the shoulder belt away for a 2 hour trip, which sucked. Small dixie cups to sip from so that you don't over do it in the beginning.

Breakups SUCK!
Puddin, I've been in so many of those "relationships" that it could make your head spin. I wasted year after year in those relationships until I realized that I actually didn't have the soulmate that I thought I had...but a guy that said what I wanted to hear to get what he wanted... then broke me down and made me feel not worthy after he got it. I wouldn't walk away from him.. I'd RUN away from him. I met my husband 2 weeks after FINALLY giving up on a guy that did that to me for a whole year. We had everything in common and I *knew* in my heart he was the guy for me if he'd just realize it himself. What a joke. I blew a year of my life trying to convince him even after he'd say to me "I've always had this picture in my mind of my perfect girl and you're not her...but I like you a lot". So I met my husband and we don't have much in common but he looks at me and I can see how much he loves me and puts me on a pedestal and never compares me to other women and makes me feel soooo loved. Keep looking and keep your chin up. You'll find your prince charming and don't ever settle for less then a man that makes you feel like the princess you are!

ABC - December chat
Faybie.. you should have said "sure I'll try it on" and threw it on over what you were wearing! I weighed myself on Christmas morning and I was down 35 pounds. Yay! it seems I'm past my platue now. My favorite jeans were hanging on my hips on christmas day and I wore a button up shirt that last year I couldn't button because I was too fat. It fits great now. That was my christmas gift to myself! Hubby got me a diamond and sapphire pendent on a gold chain.

Meat??
I can't eat the fried burgers anymore but I can eat thin sliced ham that I chew up really well, ground burger like what you use in taco meat. I usually do that like nacho's without the chips. Mix a little bit of fried burger with the taco seasoning with some fat free refried beans and melt cheese on top of it. If it's too thick I add some sour cream or enchilada sauce. Most turkey gets stuck. Fried chicken gets stuck. I have to have moist baked or boiled chicken. Shrimp gets stuck but tuna and crab doesn't. I'll grind up some crab or Ham with low fat miracle whip and eat that. Yum!

Where are all the Michigan people at??
That's GREAT! I'm so proud of you!!! I gave up pepsi a month before my surgery. I gave it up on my own to prove to hubby that I could. I still crave it from time to time but I haven't had any soda of any kind since July and I feel so much better for it. I drank like 4 cans a day prior to giving it up. Hubby didn't think I could. You're doing the right thing!
