When you go rogue with 100 calories of cottage cheese you gotta do it on the sly apparently.

The liquids thing is soooo different by doctor too. Mine was anti Jello & pudding during that phase, but totally okay with any Soup you were willing to blend, so I could eat a higher calorie broccoli cheddar, but not 15 calories of jello. It was weird.

212 days post op and I’m finally able to drink Water again today without any flavoring! Before bypass i loved drinking water but after it all tasted like toilet water....not that I know but that’s what I imagined. Hopefully it continues. Heck of a journey so far. 98 pounds down post op today. I’ll be at that magical 100 very soon!

I am happy your surgery went well! I actually did not find this website until 2 nights before my surgery. I was looking online for some current experiences, not sure why this site did not show up before. Anyways, it sounds as if you have had a pretty good hospital experience and I am happy that you have such a supportive CEO-wow! I wish you the best!

Hi, why would you lose your spot? Are you just starting? I know each jurisdiction is different, but a few years ago someone I know had surgery and he is a firefighter. He just let them know he needed medical leave and did not have to disclose what for - just provided general medical documentation afterwards from his doctor, and was placed on light duty for a couple of weeks after returning to work.

costco also has their brand of Vitamin Water that tastes pretty good and a little less. Also, I just posted under another water question about drinking diet Snapple (Peach or Regular flavor) if it is an approved drink. I have been mixing it half water and lemons/limes. So far it's been pretty good.

I am a month out and still keep going back and forth asking myself "was this really necessary?" I was able to get through the pain but I also feel as if I let myself down because it seems as if I should have been able to do this on my own instead of taking such extreme measures.
One bright spot is that I just started logging my foods again using myfitnesspal and I looked back at my weight from 2011, it was close to where my starting weight was before surgery- Overall, the positives definitely outweigh the negative. We just have to take things one step and day at a time. I wish you the best.

QuilterGal and Argente 1280, thank you both for sharing your stories! During the pre-op phase, I recall the dietitian stating how easy it could be to look for other things to self-medicate after we could not eat the same way anymore. I wish you all the best during your journeys.

I am on day 16 and was so happy to try tuna and an egg couple of days ago. I dropped my kids off at school and thought I was going to truly enjoy my scrambled egg. I took a few bites and needed to lay down afterwards...the same with the tuna. I was in pain almost the entire day. Most of today, I have had only liquid Proteins. I tried the tuna again with the same results. In my mind I want it, but it’s like I cannot physically tolerate it yet. I go back to work next week and am not sure what I am going to do.

    Hi Gabybab,
I am sorry you see it that way. I really do try to always be kind.
I just really think we might be getting our leg pulled here.... If you look at some of the other posts (that got shut down by mods) in the last few hours because of proven trolls they look just like this one. Same wording etc.
If it comes out that I am wrong I will be the first to PERSONALLY apologize. Promise.
Either way, I respect your right to disagree. 💙 Take care!

Hi Tiffany, I can understand your feelings. My surgery was on the the 14th and I have gone through feeling as if I made a huge mistake to wondering if I am going to be successful to wondering why I am still feeling hungry when following my plan. During my first appointment, I mentioned these feelings to the nurse practitioner and she stated those feelings are perfectly normal. As far as food and feeling hungry, I was advised that once I start on soft foods (this week), I will notice a vast difference between the liquid and puréed periods. This is is where the will work and willpower begins.

I am still feeling apprehensive but let’s just take each day and process one step at a time. And if it makes sense, maybe step away from the scale for a couple of weeks until the liquid-soft food phase has passed.

lyladyp reacted to JessLess in I just downed a medium sized bowl of fruit salad in one sitting, how is this possible?!
This whole conversation isn't making much sense because no one knows the nutritional issues involved with a "bowl of fruit." If you want to track what you are eating in a meaningful way, you need to list the actual different fruits and amounts that you ate. Like some berries are more conducive to me meeting my goals than other fruits are higher on the glycemic index like watermelon and grapes.
And applesauce and mashed banana were recommended to me when I was starting on soft foods, so fruit is on some people's plans for post surgery.

-To make this less confusing –
I would suggest using the SLEEVE diet instructions I linked for clarification of what you CAN eat and what to avoid. There are too many variations of plans and people posting that have a different type of surgery. Keep us posted on how you are doing. You got this. Many good things coming your way.

Hello, I did it and am now home recovering. I agree the first day was absolutely uncomfortable and I felt as if the nurses were trying to hold out on giving me pain medication! They were okay giving me blood thinner, medicine for nausea, but pain medicine was an afterthought. Otherwise, everything else went fine. I thought I was going to have to stay another night due to low magnesium but was given an IV and the okay to go home.
I was not expecting to feel this uncomfortable, but I am happy that I took off 2 weeks from work because I was not sure that I would need it. I now realize that everything related to this surgery (from beginning to the end) is a very slow process and you cannot rush anything. Thanks for your positive words and best wishes to you as you progress!👍🏽 🙂

lyladyp reacted to KT1981 in I AM OVERWEIGHT!
As of this morning I am no longer obese, just overweight. I have 29 pounds to my goal weight, and only 14 pounds to the doctor's goal weight. My 7 month anniversary was yesterday.
Just as important- MY 6 MONTH STALL BROKE. I stayed the course and did what I was supposed to do, even when I got zero results for over 2 weeks. But my body did what IT was supposed to do and got its crap together and the losses seem to have picked up again.
I'm amazed at the success of this tool and proud of myself for my VERY hard work, in spite of my imperfections. I genuinely can't believe I'm in this position. I even signed up for a fitness evaluation at work, and based on those results, someone in our wellness department is designing a workout plan specifically for me to work on the muscle groups I have concerns with.
    I am happy.

Friends- some advice - Follow the rules or else.
It has been exactly 2 weeks since my surgery and I have been 100% compliant with the diet. When I transitioned to mushies (day 10), I made a bunch of different purées (tuna, buffalo chicken dip, Beans and salsa, spinach artichoke, sweet potato, eggplant, mashed cauliflower, baked ricotta). I added gene pro to the veggies and packaged them in 3 ounce containers (except for the ricotta since I was using a slightly bigger container to bake in - 4 ounces). So things were going fine and I had no problems with drinking or mushies...UNTIL last night!
I had eaten the ricotta twice before but added a bunch more Tomato sauce and I think I ate it in two sittings or really slow. Last night I was out of tomato sauce and it was getting late so I ate almost the whole thing before I suddenly felt full...I was almost finished so I took another bite...BIG mistake. I was so uncomfortably full and bloated almost immediately.
About an hour later I tried to go to sleep. I ended up throwing up about 6 times during the night (lasted 8 -9 hours). Plus had severe stomach cramping. It was awful and scary. So this is my warning.

Mistake 1 - ricotta bake is not a mushy unless thinned with tomato sauce
Mistake 2 - eating more than 3 ounces
Mistake 3 - laying down only one hour after eating (I never noticed this rule but my plan says 2 hours).

    Hope this helps.
    Stella
